Thomas returned the next evening, using his key to unlock my cage door. The fact that this key could unlock every lock was something I still found hard to believe.

"Wait," I said as he opened the door. "Can I try to escape? Just run for it?"

"It won't work," Thomas said, shaking his head. "Guards are mounted everywhere. They'd catch you before you made it ten feet, and then Dean would make your punishment ten times worse."

"So I'm still trapped." I said with an exasperated sigh.

"For now. But not for long." He settled beside me inside the cage. "I brought you something."

He pulled out a small container filled with what looked like actual stew, still warm, along with fresh fruit and a piece of chocolate wrapped in paper. My stomach growled at the sight.

"You didn't have to do this," I said, accepting it gratefully.

"I wanted to. Besides, you need your strength for what's coming."

As I ate, Thomas watched me with an fawning expression on his face . "Can I ask you something personal?"
