Everywhere Rosemary looked, people were running around frantically, cleaning walls, polishing silverware, moving furniture, and shouting angry orders at one another. Today was not just a normal day for the pack. Today, the entire territory was preparing for the grand arrival of Alpha Kieran of the Moon Claw pack. Even in her small, isolated corner of the world, Rosemary knew exactly who Alpha Kieran was. His name was a legend known by every shape-shifter alive. He ruled the Moon Claw pack, which was widely known as the biggest, richest, and most terrifyingly powerful pack in the entire world. Everyone in her pack whispered about him in hushed, terrified voices. The stories said he was completely ruthless in battle, totally unyielding to his enemies, and incredibly handsome. Rosemary stood near the edge of the grand dining hall, her arms straining as she carried a massive, heavy stack of freshly ironed white tablecloths. Her back still ached with a deep, throbbing pain from her chores yesterday, and her ribs felt tender, but there was absolutely no time to rest today. If she slowed down for even a second, she would be punished. "Look at her, standing there and staring into space like a complete, brainless fool," a nasty, familiar voice mocked from behind. Rosemary didn't even need to look up to know it was Anna. She bit her lower lip and tried to walk past quietly, hoping to avoid a fight. But Anna stepped right into her path, blocking her way completely. Two of Anna's usual bully friends stood right behind her, mean grins plastered across their faces. "I hear a wonderful rumor that the Moon Claw pack is bringing a lot of their elite, unmated warriors with them today," Anna sneered, leaning her face close to Rosemary's. "Is that why you look so alert and excited today, Rosemary? Are you actually hoping that some handsome warrior from the greatest pack on earth will look at a broken, mateless piece of garbage like you?" "I am just trying to do my job, Anna," Rosemary said softly, keeping her eyes fixed firmly on the wooden floorboards. "Please just let me pass. The Luna wants these dining tables dressed before the guests arrive." "Don't you dare use the Luna to hide your pathetic desperation," Anna hissed angrily. Suddenly, without any warning, Anna reached out and roughly shoved Rosemary's shoulder with all her might. Because Rosemary was holding the massive, heavy stack of tablecloths, her hands were full, and she couldn't reach out to catch her balance. She crashed hard against the sharp, rigid edge of a thick wooden pillar before tumbling painfully to the floor. The heavy wood struck her ribs instantly, making her gasp out loud for air as a sharp pain exploded through her side. She knew immediately that it would leave a deep, dark bruise. "Let me make this very clear to you, you freak," Anna whispered filled with pure hatred, bending down low so only Rosemary could hear her words. "You are an absolute embarrassment to the Silver Moon pack. When the great Moon Claw wolves get here, you stay in the dark shadows where you belong. Don't look at them, don't dare to talk to them, and do not dare to hope for a miracle. A powerful warrior wolf would rather die a painful death than have a broken, useless Omega mate like you." Anna reached out and intentionally kicked one of the clean, white tablecloths into the dirt, staining it. She laughed loudly with her friends, and the group turned around, strutting away toward the grand front entrance to wait for the royal guests to arrive. Rosemary sat on the cold floor for a long moment, pressing her small hand tightly against her bruised ribs. Sharp tears of pain and humiliation pricked her eyes, but she forced herself to swallow them down. She couldn't cry today. Not today. She carefully gathered the clean linen from the floor, making sure the dirty spot was hidden underneath, and finished dressing the grand tables as quickly as her aching, bruised body allowed. As the hours ticked away, the air inside the pack house suddenly grew incredibly heavy, thick with a new, overwhelming wave of dominant power. The massive front gates of the estate swung open, and a deafening roar of greetings and pack howls echoed loudly from the stone courtyard outside. He is finally here, Rosemary thought to herself, her heart suddenly racing wildly inside her chest for a strange reason she couldn't understand. A weird feeling of warmth washed over her soul. She knew she couldn't be seen looking like a complete, dusty mess. Her clothes were covered in dirt from cleaning the floors, and her long hair was trapped in a messy, chaotic knot. Since she was officially assigned to serve the high-ranking Alphas and guests in the grand dining hall, she needed to look presentable and neat. Holding her aching, bruised side with one hand, Rosemary quietly slipped away from the busy main hall and hurried down the dark stairs toward the basement. She needed to wash her face and change into her clean, official serving uniform immediately, before the great, terrifying Alpha Kieran walked through the front doors of the house.Kieran’s POV I watched Tari walk away with his new mate, his large arm wrapped carefully around her small shoulders. The giant warrior looked like a total fool, smiling so wide his cheeks probably ached. I couldn't blame him. When the wolf finds its other half, nothing else in the world matters. I looked down at Rosemary, who was still leaning against my chest with a massive grin on her face. Her blue eyes were bright, and for the first time in a long time, there was no shadow of fear in them. "What?" she asked, catching me staring. "Nothing," I murmured, resting my chin on top of her head. "It is just nice to see you smile like that. You look beautiful." "I am just happy for him," she said, wrapping her arms tighter around my waist. "Tari is a good man. He deserves to be happy." "He does," I agreed. "But now I have to find a new guard to watch you while he is busy staring into his mate's eyes. Marcus!" Marcus stepped out from the shade of the grand archway a few yards away. He
Rosemary’s POV Maya stood frozen across the courtyard, her cheeks turning a bright, beautiful pink. Tari looked like a giant statue. He didn't move a single muscle, just stared at her with his glowing wolf eyes like she was the only person in the entire world. "Go!" I urged, giving his massive arm a hard shove. It felt like pushing a brick wall. "Tari, go to her!" He blinked, finally snapping out of his trance. He looked down at me, his face a mix of pure shock and absolute terror. "Luna... I’m on duty. The Alpha said I cannot leave your side. I have to protect you." "Are you crazy?" I laughed, shaking my head. "This is your mate! The Alpha would tear this whole castle down if someone tried to keep him from me. I am perfectly safe right here. Go help her with her flowers!" Tari looked back at Maya. She was slowly kneeling down, her hands shaking as she tried to gather the spilled lavender from the grass. Every time she reached for a flower, her eyes flicked back up to look at him
Rosemary’s POV A few weeks passed, and life inside the Moon Claw castle finally found a new rhythm. The crazy drama from the coronation ceremony was slowly becoming a memory. Still, things were different now. Security was much tighter than before. There were more guards at the gates, the border patrols were doubled, and I was never allowed to walk anywhere without my giant shadow. Luckily, that shadow was Tari. Over the past weeks, Tari had become much more than just a bodyguard to me. He had become one of my closest friends, someone I truly counted as family. We spent hours together every day. He accompanied me to my meetings with Lily about the new pup literacy school, walked with me through the gardens, and, true to his word, helped me eat an alarming amount of sweet pastries from the kitchen. "I'm just saying, Luna," Tari said, adjusting the heavy leather strap of his chest armor as we walked down the sunny courtyard pathway. "If the Alpha thinks he can out-eat me at the p
Rosemary’s POV Kieran’s heavy arm tightened around my waist, pulling me flush against his side as Tanya’s footsteps completely faded from the stone corridor. Marcus gave us a quiet, respectful nod and stepped a few paces ahead, giving us a small pocket of privacy while we walked toward the grand war room. "You're a terrible liar, you know," Kieran murmured, his deep voice vibrating against my shoulder. The amusement from our mindlink was gone, replaced by a softer, curious tone. "What was that really about?" I hesitated, looking down at the stone floor as our boots clicked in unison. "She's just stressed. She's worried about the borders being locked down and the trade routes freezing up. She thinks I'm causing a lot of trouble for the pack." Kieran let out a dark, rough sigh, his jaw clenching for a brief second. "Tanya is an exceptional administrator, but she views everything through the lens of military perfection. Don't take her coldness to heart, Rosemary." He paused, his expr
Rosemary’s POV When I woke up the next morning, the heavy fear in my chest was finally gone. The air in our bedroom smelled like pine trees, fresh rain, and Kieran. I moved a little under the silk sheets. My body felt a bit sore, reminding me of how fiercely Kieran had loved me last night. He had completely washed away the memory of that scary forest cabin from my skin. For the first time since the kidnapping, I felt happy and totally safe. Kieran was already dressed, sitting on the edge of the big bed. He was buckling the leather guards onto his arms. The moment he heard the sheets move, his golden eyes snapped to mine, and his face softened right away. "Good morning, little one," he murmured. He leaned over to kiss my forehead for a long moment, his thumb gently wiping my cheek. "You look well rested." "I am," I smiled, stretching my arms above my head. "I feel like myself again. Celine is quiet, too. She is just enjoying the bond." Kieran’s face grew a bit hard, and a protecti
Kieran’s POV The early afternoon sun cut through the heavy velvet drapes of our private suite, casting long, amber slashes across the grand bed. Rosemary was finally resting, but she wasn't peaceful. Even deep in her sleep, her small body would occasionally twitch, her fingers clawing weakly at the silk sheets as if she were still trying to break out of that gilded forest cage. I sat on the edge of the mattress, stripped to the waist, watching her every breath. My knuckles were still bruised and stained with rogue blood I hadn't bothered to scrub off. Every time she whimpered in her sleep, Nikolai roared inside my skull, a feral, possessive demand to tear the world apart until she was safe. I reached out, my large, calloused hand lightly cupping her cheek. Her skin was warm, the fever from the sleeping drug finally breaking under the medical pack’s herbs. *I swear to the Moon, little one,* I thought, my chest tight with a heavy, aching vow. *I will make you feel safe again. I will
