Elora's POV

Lloyd's look when he ended his statement and abandoned me in the bedroom made me wonder if I was the one he was referring to, or whether he was referring to someone else.

I tried not to think about it too much and believed that spending time at the bar would help me get my head straight.

After reaching out to Xavier briefly, just in case Lloyd goes crazy again about me, I left for the bar.

When I arrived, the bar was a little too full today, buzzing with chatter from the visitors seated all around in a round table setting.

I guess Laura’s game was on, because I’ve never met these amount of visitors in the bar before.

The former owner who handed over to Laura didn’t really care about customers.

All he wanted was evidence of cash and report at the end of the day, and his slow witted attitude was affecting the restaurant in a huge way.

With Laura running the show, I knew things would change for the better, but I never expected things to happen too fast.

“Lora, hey?” She

Lloyd's POVI stood by the window of my study, overlooking the dark garden below. It felt awkward having the conversation I had with Elora that morning into the afternoon. I knew from the text I got from Xavier that Elora had left the house again, but this time, I didn't know where she went, and honestly, I didn't want to find out.She did react somewhat to the conversation, but she didn't say anything to resist. Maybe she had always known that we were fated. That wouldn't make sense if she knew and still went ahead to marry Zeke.Or maybe she never knew the entire time. Maybe it was her fault that she settled for Zeke. I mean, she had to do what she got to do. It's isn't her fault.I blamed my father for sending me away on that stupid expedition in order to preserve his image, and blamed myself for not returning earlier. Perhaps, if I returned to the pack a little earlier, I'd have run into Elora single, and there would be a need for all of this.“Fate is a bitch,” I mumbled. Pe

Elora's POV Lloyd’s room was as large as a suite, but the young man only had one single couch in it. Figuring that he might want to sit there, I crossed the room for the bed and sat, just as Xavier. For a moment, he didn’t react. I thought he was out of the room until I heard him clear his throat. “Aren’t you going to leave with him?” He asked.I groaned silently before I purred. “You could use a conversation.”A moment of silence passed, before the echo of his boots against the marble sounded in the room. He sat down beside me, quietly. “See, I get you’re trying to look out for me, Lloyd,” I started after a brief silence, sparing him a glance. “But at least you should give me the benefit of the doubt. I’ve handled worst case scenerios before I met you.”He didn’t reply, but I could swear I heard him grunt silently.“I never met my mom, you know,” I said, thinking that a little back story could give him a feel of who I really was. We’ve never had the time or the opportunity to

Lloyd's POVThe next morning, everything around me went wrong. And to top it all off, Elora wasn’t yet back. I’ve spent two hours on my bedroom balcony, and yet I’ve not seen any sign of my elite beta. Was she being this careless because I gave her the freedom? Or was this how her father led the team of mages when my father was king? None of this makes sense.I walked back inside my room, standing by the window overlooking the gardens and watching the omegas work. For a moment, I wanted to howl at every one of them to leave the place. My skin prickled with anger, and my wolf pranced within me with rage, threatening to let loose. A sharp, silent snap made me look at my finger. They had transformed into claws. My door opened with a soft whoosh. My skin prickled with a familiar presence I could only associate with an old beta.Xavier. As soon as I sensed him walk in, I raised a hand to stop him from moving.“Today is council day, sir,” Xavier started, tentative. “Would you like me

Elora's POVThe warm feel of the cabin was a sharp contrast to the cold in the darkness outside. The cabin was enveloped in the usual orange glow from the lamps overhead, and I was sitting in the dining area of Kael’s cabin. He wrapped a final band aid over my slashed palm, hooking it in place.“That should do the trick,” he said in a low grunt. “Some of the dark magic already made it into your bloodstream, and it will inevitably slow the healing down, but by tomorrow morning, everything should disappear without a trace.”“Thank you, Kael,” I turned the band aid over and over in the air, before placing it on the table top softly. “I really hope this heals as quickly as you claim. I don’t want to have to explain to Lloyd why I have another bandaid on my arm.”“And speaking of,” Kael pulled the wooden seat before me and sat. “Why the hell didn’t you inform your alpha that you were going to see a group of ruffians?”I sighed, putting my head in my palm. “You know how Lloyd can be,” I

Lloyd's POVWith Davina’s direction, Xavier slid into a dark street, his speed mild. I sat beside him, staring into the distance where an orange light flooded the crossroads ahead. It reminded me of the crossroads demons I’d heard in folklore growing up, and I shrugged the thought off. When we got to the crossroads, the blood spot in the map I was holding stopped moving, Xavier and I exchanged glances, and he broke the silence.“Are you sure we should trust the map that bitchy gave you?”I shook my head. “But I don’t see a reason why she’d lie after what she did before now.”“You’re saying you find reasons to believe her?”I looked at him. “I’m saying we don’t have much of a choice.”With another glance at the old map, I stepped down from the car, folding the parchment in two. Xavier joined me, the car engine going off, making way for dry silence. The only sounds in the air was the echoing of our boots on the asphalt and the tiny screeches of crickets in the distance. I drew in a b
