RONAN’S POV

Eamon tilted his head, studying me like I was some kind of puzzle he needed to solve. "I'll keep the clothes and give them to Ewan when he wakes up."

The casual way he said my brother's name made my teeth clench. Like they were friends. Best friends. Like he had any right to be thinking about when Ewan would wake up.

I looked him up and down, taking in his relaxed posture, the way he held himself like he owned the hallway. The towel around his waist. The damp hair. The fact that he was standing here, half-naked, holding my brother's clothes.

"Why are you interested in my brother?"

Eamon's eyebrows went up. "Why are you acting the way you do about your brother?"

The question caught me off guard. I felt heat creep up my neck. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"He's his own person. I'm sure he can make his own decisions. What do you think I mean?"

I stepped closer, close enough that I could smell the soap on his skin. "All I want is my brother's clothes back."

I reached for the

CIARA’S POVEsther patted my back gently. "If you aren't sure, then you shouldn't dwell on it. It literally doesn't matter. Because you're free of him.""It doesn't stop him from trying," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "There are still some things I have to prevent from happening.""Things that you know. Things you can prepare for," Esther agreed."That's true." I rubbed my temples, feeling the headache intensify."You shouldn't let him get under your skin." Esther stood up from the bench, brushing off her robes. "I do believe you should join the Arcane class."I chuckled despite everything. "No.""Why not?""I'll be joining the Primal class like I did the last time.""Why not have a new experience?" Esther turned to face me fully. "There's so much I can teach you about using the source and how to gain better control of your rot." She paused, studying my hands. "Though I have to admit, the source in your meridian is... magnificent."That caught my attention. "Magnificent? My

CIARA’S POVThe silence that followed Sarah's explosion felt like it stretched for hours, though it was probably only seconds. Every conversation around us had stopped. Students turned to stare, drinks frozen halfway to their lips, whispers starting to ripple through the crowd. My face burned with humiliation. Sarah's words echoed in my head: I don't need you. The hurt cut deeper than I'd expected, but underneath it was something else. Confusion. I'd been trying to protect her, trying to keep her from making the same mistakes I'd watched people make before.A nd my people, I meant me. But she saw it as control, as me trying to keep her in my shadow.Maybe she was right. Maybe I'd been so focused on preventing disasters that I'd forgotten to let people make their own choices.I started to turn away, to find somewhere quiet to process what had just happened, but a hand caught my wrist."Let's talk."Ronan's voice was calm, almost gentle. I looked down at his fingers wrapped around my wri

SPECIAL CHAPTER: SARAH MORGANI needed another drink. That was my excuse anyway. The truth was I needed space from watching Ciara work the room like she'd been doing it her whole life."I'm going to grab another drink. You two want anything?""I'm good," Ciara said, and Pippa shook her head.I weaved through the crowd toward the refreshment table, grateful for the excuse to get away. The punch was sickeningly sweet, but I ladled another cup anyway and took a long sip. The alcohol burned a little going down. From across the room, I could see Ciara and Pippa talking. Even from this distance, Ciara commanded attention. Students kept glancing her way, whispering to each other. I knew exactly what they were saying."That's Ciara O'Callahan. Darragh Byrne's mate.""She's the one with the fated bond.""Lucky girl."Lucky girl. That's what everyone kept saying. Ciara was the lucky one with her perfect mate bond and her ability to read people like open books. She'd walked into this party and w

CIARA’S POVThe welcome party was in full swing by the time we made our way down to the main hall. Music pulsed through the speakers, and students clustered in groups around the room, drinks in hand and conversations flowing. The academy had transformed the space with twinkling lights and draped fabric that made everything feel more intimate despite the high ceilings.I surveyed the room with the advantage of experience. I knew exactly who was worth talking to and who would be nothing but trouble."See that group by the punch table?" I nodded toward a cluster of vampire students. "Avoid them. They think they're better than everyone else because their families have old money. Old... old... money."Pippa followed my gaze nervously. "How do you know all this already?"I caught myself before I could say something about living this before. "Good instincts, I guess. And over there," I pointed to a group of werewolves near the windows, "those are the ones you want to befriend. They're loyal

DARRAGH’S POVRiona moved like lightning despite her injured hand. She twisted away from my grab, blood from her wounded fingers leaving dark streaks across the marble wall where she steadied herself. Her breathing was harsh and labored. The magic she'd been throwing around was taking its toll."You know what's funny?" she said, cradling her bleeding hand against her chest. "You look exactly like your father. Same arrogant expression. Same entitled stance."I circled her slowly, keeping my distance while I looked for an opening. The hallway was narrow here, lined with portraits of dead Byrnes. Not much room to maneuver, which worked in my favor. She couldn't cast wide-area spells without risking bringing the ceiling down on both of us. Short area spells would only deflect back at her as well. The protective rune was plenty expensive as it was effective."My father was a piece of shit," I said. "But he never went around murdering innocent people."Riona laughed, but it came out as more

DARRAGH’S POVThe drive back from the academy should have been peaceful. The winding roads through the forest were familiar, and I'd made this trip hundreds of times before. But something felt wrong from the moment I pulled away from those iron gates.Maybe it was leaving Ciara behind. Maybe it was the weight of everything she'd told me about Mom's fate. Or maybe it was just the nagging feeling that I should have stayed longer, said more, held her one more time before walking away.My phone buzzed on the passenger seat. A text message.I glanced at it while keeping one eye on the road, expecting maybe a message from Ciara telling me she'd settled into her dorm room. Instead, I saw Mom's name on the screen.Do not come home. Danger. Riona here. Bastien dead. Stay away. The words hit me like a physical blow. I read them again, certain I'd misunderstood. But the message was clear. Crystal clear."No no no no no." The words tumbled out of my mouth before I could stop them. This couldn't b
