Five | This Isn't Over

Mackenzie

I was still reeling from the revelation my wolf said at graduation. How could I find my mate when I wasn’t even 18 yet? She didn’t say who it was, just that she got a faint whiff of their scent. I was surrounded by dozens of girls and boys, so any one of them could be my mate. I wasn’t opposed to having a she-wolf as a mate, I supported that fully. As we all trickled off the football field, Rose began to settle a bit more. I tried talking to her, but all she did was whimper in my head. I will be 18 in a week, so I should find out who my mate is then. I was brought from my thoughts when Elena nudged me.

“You’ve been awfully quiet.” She lowly said to me. We were currently in the back of my parents' SUV on our way back to the pack house for our graduation party.

“Hm?” I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts. “Sorry. Everything just hit me.” I lied.

“You know I can tell when you’re lying, right?”

I bit my lip, unsure if I should tell her. Only my parents and Mason knew about the few things that had happened and no one knew I got my wolf at 15 instead of 16. I turned slightly to face her, taking a deep breath.

“Rose said our mate was at graduation.” I mind linked her.

“Ummm.” I looked at her to see her eyes wide. “Did you mind link me?”

Oh crap! I forgot that one thing. I knew I was able to mind link my parents and Mason, but I was supposed to keep it a secret. We found out when we were visiting my grandmother after I had gotten my wolf. I was able to talk to her without words, just like with my family.

“Shit! Don’t tell anyone.” I pleaded as I looked into her wide eyes.

“You have some explaining to do.” She gave me her signature look.

“You girls alright?” my mom spoke from the front as she turned to face us in the back. “You’re quiet and that is not like either of you.”

“Yes mom.” I smiled at her. “Everything just feels so surreal right now.”

“We are finally out of school and about to start the next chapter of our lives.” Elena said a bit too excitedly.

“Not so fast girls.” My dad added as he looked in the mirror. “You both have another week before you’re 18 and I think Kevin will agree with me when I say we don’t want you both growing up.” I could see a tear fall from his eye before he quickly wiped it away.

“Awe, daddy. I’ll always be your little girl.”

“My princess.” He smiled back at me as he pulled through the gates to our territory.

Excitement bubbled through me as we made our way down the road through town and toward the pack house. We were having a joint party with the Crystal River Pack since they were our allies and my dad was friends with their Alpha as well as Uncle Nate. The path to the garage was lined with cars as we approached and went into the garage to park. Since we got ready before graduation, Elena and I headed right out to the party.

“Eeek!” Elena squealed as she grabbed my arm. “This is awesome!” she grabbed my arm before she took off into the crowd.

I took in my surroundings as I searched for my cousin from Crystal River. She was about the same height as me, maybe an inch shorter with blonde hair that fell to her mid-back. We said we would meet up at the party to spend time together before we went our separate was for a few months. As I was looking through the throng of people, I caught a scent. A scent I knew all too well as I rolled my eyes.

“Kenzie.” He said in my ear as he ran his hands down my arms.

“It’s Mackenzie.” I spat as I turned to face him. “What the hell do you want Beck?” I placed my hands on my hips as I tapped my foot. He was getting really annoying with his persistence.

“To talk.” He looked at me, trying to give me his puppy dog eyes. That used to work, when I was naïve and didn’t know about his cheating ways.

“There is nothing to talk about.” I turned on my heel to walk away when he grabbed my arm and started pulling me away. Before I could protest, I felt the brick of the pack house against my back, my view of the people obstructed.

“Can we please talk?” Beck urged as he placed his hands on the wall, caging me in.

“We have nothing to talk about.” I huffed. “Why don’t you go talk to Kristy? I’m sure she will be happy to entertain you.”

At the mention of her name, I felt him stiffen. “She means nothing.” He gritted out.

“That’s not what I saw that day. You seemed to love having her mouth on your dick.”

“Seriously?!” His tone became tense. “She came on to me and it happened so fast.”

“So, you’ve said before.” I rolled my eyes as I tried to push him away.

“I would never cheat on my Luna.” He brought his face down to my neck as he sniffed my hair. He was so pathetic if he thought I was buying into his lies now. I knew better than that.

“You need to stop before I-“ he brought his face up to stare into my eyes, trying to intimidate me.

“Before you what?” he glared at me, his face hard.

“Mas-“ I started when he crashed his lips against mine.

I tried pushing him away, only for him to grab my hair, pulling it painfully hard in his fist. I gasped at the action, allowing him to push his tongue into my mouth. I tried to scream for help when he bit down on my lip. His free hand moved to my waist as he pulled me closer to him.

“Mmmmm.” He moaned. “My Luna tastes exquisite.”

“Stop calling me that!” I yelled as I brought my hand up to slap him. He grabbed my hand, pinning it to the wall above my head.

“You will-“ he started when we heard a growl that had him stiffen. I knew that growl and smirk appeared on my face as he slowly let go of my hand and turned around to face Nico.

Nicholas

My chest heaved as I watched him pull his lips from hers. What I saw next had me seeing red. She went to slap him when he took her hand and pinned it against the wall above her head. I heard her whimper slightly at the pain and that caused a growl to escape me. I felt satisfied when he went stiff and turned to face me.

“Get your hands off her.” I gritted as we stared daggers at each other. I never did like him, but with this whole ‘being neutral’ thing, we had to be cordial. I could careless about that and this was the final nail in the coffin. No one messed with the women in my pack, especially those I was close to.

“She’s my Luna. Why wouldn’t I touch her?” He smirked. His words hit me like a ton of bricks. Luna? How? She wasn’t 18 yet.

“Kenz?” I addressed her, looking away from the scum in front of me briefly.

“Nico.” She said, sounding relieved yet excited. It has been two years since we saw each other, and we spent every day together growing up.

“Is it true?” I asked, fearing the answer. I was hoping not since Hawk was going crazy.

“It’s a lie. It’s mate.”

“How do you know?”

“Her wolf spoke to me.” He clarified.

How in the hell could he speak to her wolf? She wasn’t 18 yet, so there was no way that was possible. I waited with bated breath as she moved from behind him.

“No, it’s not.” She stood tall. I glanced behind her to see him shaking. “I’m not 18. How can I find my mate?” she looked up at me innocently.

“Thought so.” I grinned as she walked closer to me.

“I missed you.” She smiled as she came to hug me.

“Don’t fucking touch him!” Beck snarled as Kenz went stiff in my arms.

“Missed you too.” I said back as I kissed the top of her head, never taking my eyes off him. “Go enjoy your party. I’ll see you in a bit.” I told her as I held her at arm’s length.

She nodded before walking off, going back to the party. I heard Elena’s voice and knew she was with her friends now. I turned my attention back to the vermin in front of me.

“You have three minutes to get off my territory before I throw you out of it myself.” I gritted my teeth as I clenched my fists at my sides. It was the only thing keeping me from punching this asshole in the face and ruining everything.

“This isn’t over.” He spat as he walked to the front of the pack house. I waited until I heard his car start and speed down the driveway before I decided to head back to the party.

As I was walking, I stopped to see everyone having a good time. The music was pumping, people were dancing while a few others were talking to the side. I caught sight of Kenz with her friends and when the lights hit her face, I was stunned. No longer was the girl I left two years ago, but a beautiful woman with assets to match.

“Mate is gorgeous.” Hawk was gawking like a lovesick pup.

“We won’t know for sure until next week.”

“She’s mate. I know it.” He was smug as he retreated to the back of my mind.

One thing was for sure, she was gorgeous now. I have always been attracted to her but kept it quiet in case she was not my mate. Now, with the possibility of her being my mate, I was going to act on those feelings. I took a step from the side of the house, when the alarms started going off and everyone started running for safety.
