Ragnar

“I said… no.”

The words hit harder than a punch.

“I don’t want to clean your chambers,” she added.

For a second, the entire hall went silent. No one breathed. No one moved. Even the maids forgot to lower their heads.

A slave had just refused me. My wolf surged forward instantly. How dare she? Bane’s growl rolled through my skull like thunder. Deal with her, Ragnar. Don’t let this slide.

My jaw tightened. In all my years as Alpha, warriors had disobeyed. Betas had argued. Elders had challenged. But a slave? Never!

I studied her. Filthy dress. Hollow cheeks. Bruises lining her wrists. And yet… Her spine was straight. Her eyes didn’t beg. There was fear there… yes…but no submission.

Interesting. I stepped closer. “All slaves are granted seven days of light duty when they first arrive,” I said calmly.

Hope flickered across the watching faces.

“Except you.”

Her breath hitched.

“You’ll clean the main hall and my chambers. Alone. For seven days.”

She gasped quietly.

“If you’re going to defy me,” I continued, voice low, “you’ll be strong enough to survive it.”

I didn’t raise my tone. I didn’t need to. “Vanya.”

The head maid appeared instantly. “Yes, Alpha.”

“Take her to my chambers. Deep clean. After that, return her to the hall.”

Vanya’s lips curved cruelly. “Gladly.” She grabbed Seraphina’s arm. “Move, murderer,” she hissed.

I watched as they dragged her away. She didn’t cry. Didn’t beg. Didn’t look back.

Bane stirred again. She’s different.

Before I could answer him..

“Alpha Ragnar! Alpha Ragnar!”

I turned. Rowan jogged toward me, breathing hard. My Beta never ran unless it mattered.

“What is it?” I asked.

“Cassandra Vale is in your office,” he said. “She insisted on waiting. Looks… upset.”

I frowned. “What does she want now?”

He shrugged. “Didn’t say. But it doesn’t look friendly.”

I exhaled slowly and headed toward the office. The door was half open. Inside, Cassandra Vale stood by the window, sunlight framing her like a portrait.

Perfect posture. Perfect hair. The perfect daughter of the council.

She turned when I entered. “Ragnar,” she purred.

Before I could react, she crossed the room and wrapped her arms around me.

I pulled her off immediately. “Don’t.”

Her smile faltered. “You’ve been avoiding me.”

“I’ve been working.”

“You never have time anymore.” Her voice softened. “You know how I feel.”

I said nothing.

She stepped closer again. “We grew up together. Everyone already expects..”

“Cassandra,” I cut in, “we’re friends. Nothing more.”

Her eyes glistened. “This is the second time I’m confessing to you.”

“And this is the second time I’m telling you I feel nothing romantic for you,” I replied evenly. “We aren’t fated mates. We never will be.”

We both went silent.

Her face crumpled. She sniffed, turned, and left without another word.

The door clicked shut.

I finally exhaled. Politics disguised as affection. I hated it.

********

The next morning, the training yard felt dull. Warriors sparred, steel clashed, dust rose. Everything, boring.

I folded my arms. “Faster,” I barked.

They obeyed, but nothing stirred my blood. Then I remembered. Silver chains, defiant eyes. And the words, “I said no.”

A slow idea formed. “Bring me the Crescent Moon slave,” I ordered the guards. “And gather the warriors.”

Murmurs spread instantly. A challenge. They loved those.

Seraphina was dragged into the yard moments later. She looked worse than yesterday. Paler, exhausted, but still standing.

Good.

If she had the strength to defy me, she had the strength to fight.

I stepped forward. “New rules,” I announced. “Today we make this interesting.”

The warriors straightened.

“Anyone who wins this challenge earns promotion.”

Excited whispers spread. Then I looked at her. “If you win,” I said, “your punishment is canceled. No chamber duty. No hall cleaning.”

Her head lifted. For the first time…I saw hope.

Wooden swords were tossed down. A warrior stepped forward, twice her size. He charged immediately. She barely blocked.

He knocked her down.

She hit the dirt hard, and didn't stay down. She got up. Again and Again.

By the third clash, she adapted. Stopped running and started striking fast. She used his weight against him..Crack. He fell flat on his back.

Silence swallowed the yard. A slave… beat a warrior?

Interesting. Very interesting. “You win this round,” I said. “One more fight.”

I turned to a guard. “Bring me Cassandra Vale.”

Gasps rippled through the crowd. When Cassandra arrived, her eyes immediately found me. Then the slave.

Confusion turned to anger. “Spar,” I ordered.

Their swords clashed. Unlike the first fight, this one was fast. Very skillful. Cassandra had training. But Seraphina had something else. Desperation, survival and nothing to lose.

Minutes later…Cassandra’s sword flew from her hand. Seraphina’s blade stopped at her throat.

The yard froze.

Cassandra’s face burned with humiliation. The slave stood there, chest heaving… victorious.

And for the first time in years…I smiled.

Seraphina I leaned back against the wooden shelves of the slave quarters, the rough surface pressed into my spine. The lighter in my hand flicked open and shut between my fingers.Click. Click. Click. The faint flame danced for a second then disappeared. Everywhere was silent now. The kind of silence that comes after something irreversible happened. The slaves had gone quiet. The guards I threw out were gone. Vanya was gone. I had crossed a line today. One I couldn’t walk back from and that's the decision I had made. Before I could finish the thought, I heard footsteps and loud angry voices approaching.I didn’t move. Didn’t even stop playing with the lighter. They walked in and Elder Markus stepped forward first. His face frown in fury the moment his eyes landed on me.He pointed at me immediately. “How dare you!” he barked. His voice echoed through the quarters.I slowly lifted my gaze to him unbothered and unmoved.“We, the elders placed Vanya as the chief maid,” he spoke out, ste

RagnarI leaned forward, my face resting against my arm as I stared into nothing. Sitting silent in the conference hall. For once i welcomed it. No voices, no angry stares and no arguments from Seraphina. Then, the door creaked open. I didn’t move. But I heard footsteps, It’s Rowan.“What are you doing here alone?” he asked, already halfway across.“I told you,” I muttered without lifting my head. “I needed to be alone.”He stopped in front of me staring at me.I spoke again. “What did she say?”Rowan frowned slightly. “What?”I lifted my head slowly, my eyes meeting his. “When she didn’t see me in the dining hall,” I said. “What did Seraphina say?”Rowan paused“Leave nothing out,” I added. “Tell me everything.”Rowan studied me for a second, then sighed. “She walked in,” he began. “Sat down.”“And?” I pressed.“She asked where is Ragnar.”My gaze sharpened. “How?” I asked.Rowan hesitated. “Just… like that, your name.” he said.“Without adding my title?” I asked.Rowan nodded. “Yes.

SeraphinaThe look on his face said everything. He was pissed. Good. That was exactly what I wanted.Maybe if I pushed hard enough…He would finally snap. Either he sends me back to Crescent moon or kills me. Because staying here was worse than death.I smirked faintly and grabbed the heavy glass mirror from Yara.“Careful, Luna,” she replied immediately.“I’ve got it,” I replied. I dragged it inside, the weight scraping slightly against the floor. When I stepped into the chamber, Ragnar was sitting on the bed watching me. His eyes followed every movement I made.I ignored him. Walked past him like he wasn’t even there and placed the mirror carefully beside the bed. Then I turned and went back out. “Next,” I called. The servants hesitated, but obeyed. I grabbed another item. A small cabinet this time. I dragged it in, set it down and went out again. And again.Filling the room. Making sure spaces were filled up. I reached for the shoe rack and lifted it slightly, then I turned and…froz

RagnarI stormed into the main hall. The doors slammed open hard enough to echo. Rowan was already there, standing a short distance away, speaking to one of the guards. The moment he saw me, he dismissed him and hurried over.“Alpha,” he said quickly, falling into step beside me. “The things you asked me to check, I've handled them.”I barely glanced at him. “Good.” I kept walking.Rowan frowned slightly and quickened his pace to keep up. “What’s wrong?” he asked.I didn’t answer. “Ragnar..”I stopped abruptly. He almost ran into me. I turned to face him, my jaw tightened now. “She had the nerve,” I paused, my voice low, controlled, “to stand there and speak to me like that.”Rowan blinked. “ Who? Seraphina?” he asked carefully.“Who else?” I snapped. I turned and started walking again, my frustration simmering. “After everything,” I continued, “after pulling her out of the dungeons, she still demanded I send her back to Crescent Moon.”Rowan sighed. “She’s been through a lot..”“Tha

SeraphinaWe stepped out of the dungeon and the first thing I saw…Was the truck already waiting at the entrance. My steps slowed. Why…? Ragnar had said an hour. But it was already here waiting and ready. Like everything had been decided long before he came to the cell.My chest tightened. Behind me, I could still feel it, Tara’s eyes, Lena’s silence. The look on their faces when I stepped out alone. For a brief moment, I wished we had taken Tara’s plan. Maybe… just maybe… I would be gone by now. Back in Crescent Moon, back with my wolf and back to myself.Instead I was still here. Walking beside the man who refused to let me go.Ragnar stopped.I stopped immediately. We stood there for a moment. Ahead, the guards were already helping Tara and Lena into the truck. I didn’t turn to look, I couldn’t.Wolves stood around, watching from a distance. But unlike before there was no shouting, no hatred thrown at me. Just… silence. They looked away when my eyes shifted toward them. Like they di

SeraphinaThe dungeon had gone quiet again. The kind of silence that made every thought louder. Then, a whisper. “Seraphina…”I turned slightly.Tara leaned closer, in a low voice, “Now that I’ve planted doubt in their minds,” she murmured, “this is our chance.”My brows pulled together. “Our chance for what?”“To leave,” she said simply.Lena shifted weakly beside her.I exhaled slowly. “Tara…” I lowered my voice. “We are still in SilverShade territory.” My eyes flicked toward the guards outside. “Any wrong move and we’re dead.”“I don’t care,” Tara snapped under her breath. Her eyes burned with frustration. “I’m not staying in this place any longer,” she continued. “What if Ragnar decides not to investigate?”I didn’t respond.“What if he finds nothing?” she pressed. “What if everything still gets pinned on us?” Her voice dropped. “Then we die anyway.”Lena swallowed hard. For a moment, it looked like she agreed. Then she shook her head weakly. “No…” she whispered. “We should wait.”
