CHAPTER THIRTY TWO

I freeze in my spot, and he grab my wrist, his voice angry, “Why aren’t you saying anything now?”

I slowly turn around to look at him.

A part of me is screaming to tell him everything but Jason’s words are etched in my brain.

“I saw you there!” He growls, grabbing my upper arms and giving me a shake. I saw you sitting in his office! He was inches away from you!”

Is this another scheme? I wonder, dimly.

I must have been silent for too long because anger lights up Adam’s eyes, “Why aren’t you saying anything? If I hadn’t been passing by and seen you with my own eyes, would you have lied about-”

“Passing by?” I finally say, staring at him.

I feel nothing right now.

It’s like somebody has carved me out and there’s nothing left anymore.

“Let me guess,” I can’t even muster up a fake smile right now. “You with Maya, weren’t you? Did she suggest that route? Or maybe an evening walk?”

Adams eyes narrow, “Look, whatever your problem with Maya is, I’ve told you-”
