The bus wheezed to a stop like it had lungs full of gravel, right by the rust-crusted sign for the Central District. The doors shuddered open. My feet hit the pavement, already pulsing with the heat from the concrete, and I didn’t even have time to blink before I saw my brother.

Brian was leaning on the hood of his grey car. Sleeves rolled up, sunglasses on, grinning.

“Look who finally crawled out from behind the Lycan walls,” he said, his arms spread.

My face crashed into his chest and I peppered his jaw with kisses just to be annoying. He grimaced, grabbed my head like he was about to dunk it in a sink, and groaned dramatically.

“Okay, psycho, you trying to moisturize my beard with spit now?”

“Hello to you too, little brother.”

He scoffed and snatched me clean off the ground. My feet dangled in the air like I was five again.

“I’ll show you how ‘little’ I am.”

“Put me down, you overgrown puppy,” I shouted, swatting his shoulder hard enough to make his keys jingle.

He finally dropped

I tossed on Brian’s bed for hours. The sheets had gone cold from my twisting. He’d moved out last year after my dad told him he’d never approve of Sydney. Not just disapprove—he called her unworthy, like her bloodline was dirt on the floor. Brian packed up that same night and never looked back. Smart move.If I had known things would go this far, I would’ve stayed at the Lycan pack. At least there, the wolves kept their bullshit in the open. You knew who hated you and why.By the time morning light slipped in through the blinds, I was still awake. I stared at the ceiling until hunger won. I had cleaned out the entire bottle of trail nuts around three in the morning, but it wasn’t enough to hold me.I stayed upstairs as long as I could, but eventually, I padded barefoot down the hall, hoping to get in and out without being seen. The smell of reheated bacon and toast drifted from the kitchen.I should’ve known better.Lilith was already downstairs, waiting at the head of the dining tabl

The soft click of my door pulled me out of a half-sleep. Not a knock. Not a call of my name. Just the door easing open like he owned the air in my room.I didn’t move at first. Then I groped for the lamp and flipped it on. My room snapped into light. My father stood in the doorway, too awake for the time, smiling like he had a check in his pocket and a camera in his face.“What the hell are you doing in my room?”I sat up, hair stuck to one side of my cheek. He bounced on his heels like he had good news, the kind he couldn’t wait to shove down my throat.“No knocking?” I rubbed my temples. “Seriously?”He waved me off like I was being dramatic. “Why would I knock? I gave birth to you.”“You didn’t. Pretty sure Mom did. The same woman you disrespected every chance you got.”He laughed like I hadn’t just thrown that at his face and marched across the room to hug me, arms wide like he was auditioning for a fake happy family commercial. I stiffened. His breath reeked of whiskey.“My brill

Brian didn’t say anything at first. He stared at me like he hadn’t heard right, like the words needed time to catch up to his brain. Then his jaw moved slowly, like it was suddenly too much effort."I don’t get it.""Yeah," I said, rubbing the side of my face, "welcome to the club. I found out at the festival. One look and the bond hit like a damn freight train. I felt everything. Every damn thing. And he—"I trailed off. There was no neat way to say it.Brian leaned in, his brow pulled low. "And?""He won’t acknowledge it," I said flatly. "But he won’t reject me either. He’s acting like it doesn’t even exist."Brian slammed his fist against the table so hard that the plates jumped. He pushed his chair back with a scrape and started pacing, arms folded. His body carried that sharp, twitchy kind of rage I recognized too well."Damn it! Why didn’t you say something sooner?"I opened my mouth to speak and closed it.“Why would you keep such news to yourself?”"Because I needed to be sure

Questions had been piling up in my head, chewing through every quiet moment. I needed answers. Not polite ones. Not “give it time” or “he’s just under pressure.”Real fucking answers.Justin looked fine from the outside. That was the sick joke. That damn sculpted body—enough to star in one of those old war murals. But then he’d start into deep-throated coughing, like something inside him was trying to claw its way out. And no matter how many times I reached for him, even lightly, just to help, his body would stiffen like I'd touched a wire. His guard would shoot me a glance. He’d clear his throat and excuse himself like I had offered him poison. That wasn’t what a Lycan King was supposed to be. They were supposed to be above weakness. Hell, above death. But I was watching him fall apart into quiet little pieces. And still, he said nothing.Maybe I was overthinking. Maybe a friend. Or maybe I was just stupid, standing in the middle of all this, hoping that some magical switch would fli

JustinAnger was too tame a word for what boiled through my veins. It was violent and feral. And Sean, that smirking bastard, was riding it like a wave he thought he controlled. He wanted me to snap, to give him a scene, to hand him more proof I was unstable. My fist throbbed from the crack of my knuckle against his jaw. It was a satisfying sound, but nowhere near enough. Not after years of his snide little remarks, his constant undermining, the way he slithered toward power that didn’t belong to him. A split lip didn’t even begin to cover it. I wanted to feel something break.I lunged again, ignoring the pain on my knuckles. My fist slammed into his ribs, and finally, the smug fell away. His face twisted with something real. He struck back, a hard blow to my gut that knocked the wind out of me, leaving my vision dancing. I flared up, ready to tear into him—But Marissa darted in between us.“Justin, stop! Please! Don't do this!”She was terrified. I saw it in her eyes before I even r
