John Chase took me back to the hall he had previously prevented me from entering. Anger was boiling inside me, my blood burning.

Just before the doors to the Great Hall opened, he pulled me possessively by the waist in front of everyone. His touch against me, even through the thick fabric of my dress, sent an electric current through my entire body. I felt my legs trembling beneath my dress, and my heart began racing again.

As we walked through the hall with everyone's eyes on us, I tried to pull away from him, but he pressed me more firmly against his body.

Then, suddenly, with a smile, he released me, leaving me bewildered by his behavior.

With a bow, he stepped away, but not before smiling as though amused by some private joke.

What an odious man!

When he left, I took a deep breath, still feeling his touch on my waist.

That distraction kept me from noticing another man approaching me in time. By the time I did, it was already too late.

The man was Dimitri Sidorov, the other unfortunate man competing for my hand.

I smiled politely at him.

Dimitri was tall, though not as tall as John Chase. He had broad shoulders, and his hair was a translucent shade of blond. His skin was extremely pale, a characteristic of his homeland, Mihan, where it was almost always winter. His eyes were icy blue.

He was an attractive man, but his beauty was overshadowed by his actions. He was a nobleman from Mihan who had heard about the tournament for the princess's hand in the kingdom of Shivia. His actions in the battles had been brutal, and I couldn't even imagine myself marrying him and leaving my country for the frozen lands of Mihan.

He bowed to me, his eyes lingering on my breasts for far too long, making me uncomfortable.

"It is an honor to finally introduce myself to the princess. My name is Dimitri Sidorov, your faithful servant."

His kind words didn't match what I could see in his eyes. Besides, that perception of people that had accompanied me all my life was warning me again.

Because even if I had been blindfolded, that energy he emanated...

It was like a mist, as if his entire being were shrouded in fog, trying to conceal his true feelings. And I could sense hostility radiating from him.

It made me sick.

And that was why, for many years, I had preferred to remain in my chambers. Whenever I encountered soldiers who had taken part in wars, I was struck by their dark energies, and I had never been able to reveal this to anyone.

Princess or not, I could be accused of witchcraft.

And in Shivia, witches were burned at the stake.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Lord Sidorov," I said.

Before I could escape, he grabbed me and suddenly pulled me toward him.

I tried to protest, but before I could alert the guards, he whispered words into my ear, and suddenly, I froze.

A wave of energy began coursing through my entire body the moment his fingers touched the back of my neck. I felt him prick me with the sharp tip of his fingernail, and then his command reverberated inside me:

"Be quiet and listen."

His voice...

Inside my head...

"Walk to your chambers in a few minutes. Say that you're feeling unwell if anyone questions why you're leaving. Once you reach your chambers, there will be two guards at the door. Call them inside, keeping their backs to the door. After that, follow me without a word and obey me."

As he said these things inside my mind, he led me through a dance as though nothing were wrong.

Dimitri danced with me twice, and I had absolutely no control over my own will. Every time I thought about screaming and calling for help, a terrible headache struck me, making me want to writhe on the floor.

"Stop trying to resist my commands. You're only going to make this more painful for yourself," he whispered in my ear.

He released me and stepped away with a brief bow.

I stood completely paralyzed, watching him walk away. I tried to scream, run, or have any appropriate reaction to what had just happened, but to my horror, my body wouldn't obey me.

It was as though there were another will inside me, and it was controlling my every step.

I walked through the hall and greeted people, drank wine, and after some time, said goodbye to everyone.

I walked back to my chambers with my guards, and once inside, I imagined I would be able to act normally.

But I couldn't.

I was still under his invisible command.

I watched helplessly as I myself called my guards, drawing their attention into the room and pointing toward a nonexistent rat beneath my bed.

When they entered, worried, they turned their backs to the door.

I watched in horror as a figure suddenly attacked them from behind.

The man knocked them out quickly and silently, then looked at me.

"Write a letter now."

Then he dictated every word of the letter to me.

In it, I wrote in my own handwriting that I was in love with Sidorov and that I was running away with him to marry him because I couldn't bear the uncertainty of the tournament and the possibility of him dying.

"Now let's go."

My body obeyed him immediately, and I followed him out of the room, silently sneaking through the corridors.

Until we stopped in front of a painting depicting the former King Carlos I, my father in his youth.

Dimitri approached the painting and ran his fingers over it. Then he pushed it aside, revealing a small door.

He inserted a key into the old lock and turned it.

With a creak, it opened, revealing a staircase descending into complete darkness.

He took a torch from the wall and grabbed me by the arm.

Then we plunged into the darkness.

  • The Alpha’s Chosen Mate   Chapter 13

I woke up with John Chase gently shaking me. When I opened my eyes, I realized he was tense. I looked around, searching for some sign that morning had already come, but in that windowless room, it was difficult to tell.“Is it time to leave?” I asked him, but he was already on his feet, staring at the door.He pressed a finger to his lips, giving me a clear signal to be silent. Then he slowly walked toward the door, narrowed his eyes, and suddenly someone burst through it.John Chase was thrown across the room and slammed into the wall. When I looked at the figure standing in the doorway, responsible for what had just happened, I screamed. My entire being screamed, and I couldn't believe my own eyes.A gigantic creature stood in the doorway, exactly as the legends described them: enormous red eyes, massive fangs capable of tearing through anything, and claws sharper than swords. It was tall and muscular, despite its body being covered in fur and having an entirely animalistic appearan

I tried to struggle against him, but Chase was far too strong.“Stop trying to get away! Look at me!” he shouted, and that made me freeze. Once again, that dangerous energy radiated from him—a real, palpable danger.I froze and looked at him, feeling tears flood my face. His expression had been angry before, but when I looked at him, it softened. His grip on my wrists loosened enough that it seemed as though he was merely touching me there. Then he lowered one hand and waved it in front of my face.It was wrapped in a white linen bandage. He untied the cloth, revealing a cut across his palm. A cut deep enough to...It couldn't be...“The blood on the sheet is from my hand,” he confirmed, proving my suspicion.John Chase got off me and sat on the sofa, his eyes still fixed on me as he wrapped the bandage around his hand again.“Nothing happened last night, but that doesn't mean people would think so. Most likely, your maids would have assumed you weren't pure when you married. I did it

I was still trapped beneath that dark, intense gaze. I couldn't tell whether Commander John Chase could see the horror and shame filling my thoughts and heart in the dim light of the room, and if he could, what did it make him feel?He took a deep breath.“Don't know what to say, Princess?” Chase asked.I sighed at the inevitable.“How can I look into your eyes without seeing the blood you spilled?”“And for whom did I spill that blood?” the Commander asked. His question was completely unfair. I had never asked anyone to fight for my hand.“How dare you try to put that blood on my hands? You killed for power!” I shouted at him.Suddenly, his hands shoved me backward onto the bed, his weight pressing me into the mattress. I gasped, struggling to breathe, but then his mouth claimed mine again. This time, with more aggression, his hands slipped beneath my dress, drawing a horrified scream from me.Was he really going to do this?I tried to resist, turning my face away from his kiss, but

John held me even more firmly against him, amusement in his gaze. He was laughing because I was drunk."Get me out of here," I murmured, clinging to him.He walked with me through the hall, and at every table we passed, all the guests stood up and the men began celebrating. Many of them shouted that it was time to consummate the marriage, laughing with satisfaction. Even though I was out of my mind, I found it embarrassing. At the end of the hall, John turned and waved to the king and queen. All eyes were on us, and there were many voices around us. He held me by the waist, supporting most of my weight, and led me into the corridor. When we left the hall and found ourselves in the empty corridor, with only the distant sound of voices and music coming from the hall, he looked at me and, still holding me, asked:"Do you want to walk a little in the night air? Or would you rather lie down?""I'd rather lie down." Considering that I could barely walk.He nodded and, as if he had read my m

I widened my eyes, and my heart began pounding wildly in my chest. I immediately felt the heat rise up my neck and burn my cheeks. Even though I didn't want to, I couldn't help looking away and down at my own hands.Commander Chase had been direct with me in a way no man ever had before, and it was completely disconcerting.I shifted uncomfortably in my chair at his audacity. How dare he say something like that?I gathered my courage and confidence and raised my eyes to meet his."How dare you insinuate such vulgar things?"He tightened his hands around my thighs, and now our faces were so close that his forehead touched mine."I'm your husband now. I'll dare to do much more than that, princess." Saying that, he abruptly pulled away and drank more wine. He ran his hands through his black hair, leaving it tousled in a provocative way, then looked at me again."You blush so easily... It's been so long since I've seen a woman do that."There was a certain fascination in his gaze that I c

  • The Alpha’s Chosen Mate   Chapter 8

I stared at myself in the mirror wearing the wedding dress. It was long with an enormous train, completely white and covered in precious stones, with a sweetheart neckline and a diamond-encrusted tiara on my head. My black hair fell in waves around me, with a few braids woven into it.All day long, the palace had been filled with servants rushing from one place to another, all busy with the preparations for the wedding of the princess and Commander Chase. The ceremony would be held in the hall of the south tower, where the church was located. A priest would perform the ceremony, and after the two of us signed the marriage contract, everyone would proceed to the great hall, where a grand wedding celebration would be held.I really wasn't prepared for this, but what choice did I have? The door opened, and the queen herself came to escort me to the south tower. I rose from my chair and looked at her."Did you come to make sure I won't run away on my way to the church, Your Highness?" I t
