FELIX

I run my hand slowly along the wall, feeling for a switch, but there’s nothing there. Just cold, flat surface under my fingers. No edges. No buttons.

It doesn’t take long for it to settle in.

This isn’t a room.

It’s too tight. Too small to be anything meant for living in. The air feels closed in. There’s no window anywhere. Not even a crack of light.

It’s a damn closet.

And it’s empty.

I lower myself down to sit, my back brushing the wall, and try to stretch my legs out in front of me. I

ZARA The house is full for Christmas, and somehow we still keep finding space for more people. It doesn’t make sense, but it works. Every room is taken, every corner has someone in it.Our parents move through the crowd, talking, smiling, trying to keep up as they mix in with our pack and the ones who might soon become part of it.My mom doesn’t recognize most of the faces. I can tell. But she doesn’t seem bothered by that at all. She just looks happy that I have people around me, that I’m not alone. Her smile stays with her the whole day, never fading, and after a while, it pulls a smile from Dad too.I can feel it coming. It won’t be long before the twins ask about our marks. They’ve been holding back, but not for much longer. They’ve settled in fast, faster than I expected. Even Ethan. He keeps to himself and doesn’t say much, mostly just watching, but he’s still here in his own way.I think that’s why Damian stays close to him. There’s no pressure between them, no need to f

FELIX Teleporting always feels strange. One second we are standing in the bedroom. The next, we are on the dirt road that leads into Granite Valley.I only know this place from that one car ride to Marcus’s house. Still, when we step forward, something pulls at me. An old memory.I start moving before I think about it.I run down a narrow path between houses. It looks like it will lead into the woods, but it doesn’t.Instead, I step out into a field. My chest tightens. It is exactly the same. Just like the dreams. Just like I remember.Zara and Damian come up behind me. They stop and look around. The place is hidden. It feels like it sits deep in the woods, but it doesn’t. It is cut off in a quiet way, like the world forgot about it.“What is this place?” Zara asks.“I used to come here when I was a kid,” I say. “A lot of moms brought their kids here.”The memories are not clear. Faces blur. Voices fade. But the feeling stays.“I don’t think Marcus knew about it.”If he had, he would

ZARA I drift off for a few minutes, not fully asleep, just resting. Then the thought comes back to me. There are still things I need to do today. I shouldn’t be lying here. That must be why Damian got up earlier. He always thinks ahead. He knows we still have to meet with the Conclave of Mystics, and that isn’t something we can delay.I got distracted earlier. We were supposed to keep moving, but instead we ended up focusing on Felix and his welcome home surprise. It pulled all of us in. It felt more important in the moment.I try to sit up, but Caleb’s arm tightens around me before I can move. At the same time, Felix takes my hand and holds it gently, like he doesn’t want to let go either. Between the two of them, I’m stuck.“Sleep,” Caleb whispers softly, his fingers brushing along my cheek in slow, calm strokes.“I have things to do,” I say, even though my voice comes out quieter than I meant.“Your only job today is to stay here and hug me,” Felix murmurs, his tone low and s

DAMIAN Naomi tucks her hair behind her ear before she begins. She pauses for a second, like she’s sorting through everything in her head and deciding what to say first.“The Conclave of Mystics needs you and Zara over at Granite Valley as soon as possible,” she says. Her voice stays steady, but there’s weight behind it. “They’re breaking the pack apart. A lot of people are being sent to counselling. After that, most of them will be moved into stronger, more stable packs. Some will be given the option to live like humans instead.”I nod slowly, taking that in piece by piece. It’s a lot, but it also feels expected after everything that happened there.“The youngest ones still in town want to join your pack,” she adds.“That makes sense,” I mutter, more to myself than to her. Then I frown, something not sitting right. “But don’t they want to stay with their parents?”Naomi gives a small, uneven smile, like she already thought about that question. “The youngest ones are nineteen. Their m

DAMIAN I get dressed and leave Zara asleep in bed with Caleb and Felix. For a moment, I stand there and watch them. It’s quiet. Calm in a way that doesn’t last long anymore. I think about staying. It would be easy to lie back down, pull Zara closer, and ignore everything waiting outside that door. Just for a little while. But I know how this goes. If I leave things unattended, they pile up. And right now, we can’t afford that. What happened to Felix can’t happen again. Not to him. Not to anyone in my pack. I won’t allow it.When I open the door, I half expect to see the kid sitting outside like before. Waiting. Ready to be taken downstairs for breakfast, like it’s already part of his routine. But the hallway is empty. The kid. Eli. Felix’s half-brother.That thought brings me straight to the first problem. His mother. If she hadn’t betrayed us, this would be simple. I wouldn’t even need to think this hard about it. I’d invite her in, give her a place here, let her and the kid set

CALEB It still catches our Omega off guard, and I don’t think that will change anytime soon, but I’m not as dull as he likes to pretend. He has this idea of me in his head, something simple and steady. He doesn’t expect much beyond that.He would probably stare if he knew I was the one who suggested the welcome-home gift. Not something soft or familiar. Something new. Something we have never tried before. Something a little rougher. A little messier. Something that would stay on his mind after.Of course, Felix being Felix, he couldn’t leave it at that. He always adds something. Always pushes things a step further. He wanted to taste Damian on our mate’s body. That part wasn’t planned. None of us talked about it beforehand. The marks on her neck weren’t planned either. They just happened. If I asked him why, I already know the answer I’d get. A small shrug. A quiet look. He’d say it felt right, like that was enough to explain everything.I kneel in front of Zara now. The air ar

FELIX No one teaches Omegas what it means to feel everything. It’s like standing in a room and taking in every emotion at once. Not just your own. Everyone’s. It slips into you without warning. Small pieces of feelings that were never yours to begin with. It doesn’t make sense at first. It takes

ZARA I move to sit beside Damian when a sharp feeling runs over my skin. The hairs on my arms stand up. I don’t want to sit too close. The spell needs space to work.I watch Agatha’s magic move over Felix. She stands in front of him, her hands stretched out. The air around him shifts.Felix lets o

FELIX A nervous laugh rises in my chest when the witch turns to face me. I try to hold it in, to keep it locked behind my teeth, but it slips out anyway. It sounds wrong the second it leaves me. Too sharp. Too forced. I can’t stop it. This whole thing feels off. Nothing about it sits right with

ZARA "Come on," I say to her. I want her out of our home. She is not welcome here anymore. She nods and stands, slow at first, like her body is heavy. I don't move to help her. I don't reach out. I don't touch her.I don't want any contact. Not now. Not after everything.I turn and walk, and she f
