"No!"

The scream ripped from Elena’s throat, echoing off the cold stone walls of the Alpha’s private chambers. It was a raw, jagged sound that should have brought help, but she knew the guards outside the heavy oak door were stationed there to keep people out, not to let her escape.

She backed away until her calves hit the edge of the massive, fur covered bed. Her heart was hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird. Across the room, Cassian Blackwood stood in the shadows. He looked less like a man and more like a predator deciding where to bite first. His chest was bare, his skin slick with a sweat that smelled like woodsmoke and iron.

"Why don't you choose someone else than me?" she pleaded, her voice shaking. "There are a hundred women in this pack who would kill to be in this room. Women who actually know what you are. Why me, Cassian? I’m just a healer. I’m nobody."

Cassian stepped into the light of the hearth. The fire reflected in his eyes, which were turning a dark, dangerous shade of amber. The "Fading Moon" curse was visible in the way his muscles twitched, the beast just beneath his skin screaming to get out.

"You're the one I need for this," he said. His voice was deep, scraping against her nerves. "The only one. The other women in this pack have wolf blood. It’s too volatile. I need your humanity, Elena. I need the stillness in your veins to anchor my mind before the moon takes it forever."

He reached into a heavy iron lockbox on the table and pulled out a leather pouch. When he set it down, the heavy clink of silver coins filled the silence.

"Don't worry," he added, his gaze dropping to her trembling hands. "I will pay you a good amount for your service. Your family will never want for anything again. You’ll have enough to leave this territory and never look back if that’s what you want. But tonight, you belong to the ritual. You belong to me."

Elena looked at the pouch, then back at him. The "service" he was talking about wasn't just a medical procedure. It was the Crimson Vow, a sexual ritual that used the raw energy of a human to stabilize a failing Alpha. She knew the stories. If she failed, she wouldn't just be poor; she would be dead.

Silence stretched between them, heavy and suffocating. The only sound was the crackle of the fire and the distant, rhythmic drumming of the pack celebration happening in the valley below. Cassian didn't move. He waited for her to accept the impossible choice.

Finally, Elena nodded. Her throat felt tight, but she knew there was no way out.

Cassian didn't waste another second. He crossed the room in two long strides, his heat hitting her like a physical wave. He grabbed her face, his large hands framing her jaw with a surprising amount of pressure. When he kissed her, it wasn't a request. It was a claim. His mouth was hot and tasted of dark wine, his tongue forcing its way past her lips with a possessive hunger that made her head spin.

She let out a small, muffled moan into his mouth. Her hands came up to push against his chest, but as his tongue swirled against hers, her resistance began to melt into a confusing, terrifying heat.

He broke the kiss just long enough to slide his hands down her body. He grabbed her ass, his fingers digging into the soft flesh. "God, you're perfect for this," he muttered against her neck, his voice thick with a lust that sounded human and animal all at once. "So soft. So much better than the steel and bone of the pack females."

He squeezed her, praising the shape of her, before lifting her effortlessly and tossing her back onto the bed. The furs were cool against her skin, a sharp contrast to the furnace of his body as he followed her down.

"Stay still," he commanded.

He pulled up the hem of her simple linen dress, bunching the fabric around her waist. Elena felt the cool air hit her legs, followed immediately by the rough friction of his palms as he slid them up her inner thighs. He moved higher, his thumbs hooked into the waistband of her undergarments, stripping them away with a single, practiced motion.

Then his mouth was on her. He started playing with her breasts, his teeth grazing the sensitive peaks through the thin fabric of her bodice before he tired of the barrier and ripped the laces open. He took one nipple into his mouth, sucking hard, while his hand held the other breast, kneading it with a rhythmic intensity.

Elena arched her back, a high, thin sound escaping her. "Cassian," she gasped.

"Shhh," he whispered, his breath hot against her wet skin. "Let the heat take you. It’s the only way you survive the mark."

He sat back on his heels, his eyes roaming over her bare chest and flushed face. He reached for the fastening of his trousers, and a moment later, he was fully exposed. He was huge, thick, and pulsing with a frantic energy.

Elena stared at him, her breath hitching in her throat.

"Do it," he growled.

She knew what he wanted. She sat up slowly, her hands shaking as she reached out to touch him. He was like velvet over iron. She leaned forward, kneeling on the edge of the bed, and took him into her mouth.

The taste of him was overwhelming. She worked her tongue around the head, sucking and swirling just the way she had seen the older women in the village describe. Cassian let out a low, guttural sound, his fingers tangling in her hair as he guided her rhythm. He wasn't gentle. He pushed into her mouth, his hips jerking as the tension in his body reached a breaking point.

He came with a jagged roar, his release hot against the back of her throat. Elena swallowed, her eyes watering from the depth of him, but she didn't pull away until he gently nudged her back.

"My turn," he whispered.

He pushed her flat onto her back again. He grabbed her ankles and pulled her toward the edge of the bed until she was open and vulnerable to him. He didn't hesitate. He buried his face between her legs, his tongue finding her center with a precision that made Elena’s world explode.

He sucked her pussy, his tongue flicking against her clit with a ruthless speed. Elena’s hands flew to the headboard, her knuckles turning white as she gripped the wood. The pleasure was too sharp, too much. She tried to close her legs, but he held them wide, his growls vibrating through her entire lower body.

"Scream for me, Elena," he urged, his voice muffled against her wet skin. "Let them hear you. Let the pack know their Alpha has found his anchor."

She couldn't hold it back. As he sucked harder, his thumb moving inside her to stretch her open, she let out a long, high-pitched scream that cut through the silence of the hallway outside. She heard the faint shuffle of the guards’ feet on the stone floor, but she didn't care. She was falling, her body Tightening into a knot of pure, unadulterated sensation.

She came so hard her vision went blurry, her internal walls pulsing against the air.

Cassian didn't give her a moment to recover. He moved up her body, his dick already hard again from the sheer power of the ritual’s magic. He positioned himself at her entrance, his eyes locked on hers.

"Now," he said. "The Vow begins."

He drove into her in one smooth, powerful motion. Elena’s eyes went wide as he filled her, the sensation of him stretching her and hitting the back of her womb making her gasp for air. He began to fuck her, his pace fast and punishing. Every thrust was a statement of ownership. Every time his hips slammed against hers, she felt a strange, silver warmth beginning to spread from her core into her chest.

"You're doing it," he hissed, his face contorted in a mix of agony and ecstasy. "I can feel you. I can feel the calm."

He gripped her hair, pulling her head back to expose the pale, sweating skin of her neck. This was it. The moment where the sex became the ritual. He leaned down, his teeth grazing the pulse point where her life beat fast and frantic.

"Don't fight the bite, Elena," he whispered. "Accept the mark. Accept me."

He sank his teeth into her neck.

The pain was a flash of white light, but it was immediately followed by a rush of heat so intense it felt like her blood was turning into molten silver. She felt his power pouring into her, and her own humanity flowing back into him, a bridge of flesh and bone and pleasure.

She screamed again, but this time it wasn't fear. It was a sound of total, devastating transformation.

Outside the room, the drumming stopped. The pack went silent. They knew the Alpha had made his claim.

Cassian collapsed against her, his breathing ragged, his heart beating in perfect sync with hers. He didn't pull out. He stayed inside her, his forehead resting against hers as the silver glow of the ritual began to fade from the room.

But the silence didn't last.

A heavy, frantic knocking came at the door.

"Alpha!" a voice shouted from the hallway. "The northern perimeter has been breached! The Silver Fangs... they didn't wait for the moon to set. They're in the village!"

Cassian’s eyes snapped open. They weren't amber anymore. They were a bright, piercing gold. The curse was broken, but the war had just arrived.

He looked down at Elena, his hand coming up to touch the glowing red mark on her neck. "Stay here," he said, his voice cold and lethal. "If anyone touches that door, kill them."

He stood up, reaching for his sword, leaving Elena alone on the furs, her body still shaking from the ritual that had just changed her life forever.

The ground didn't just shake; it screamed. The sound of stone grinding against stone was like a giant’s teeth gnashing together right beneath Elena’s feet. She stumbled, her hands scraping against the jagged rocks of the canyon floor as the massive, black scaled head of the Bone Eater rose higher. It was worse than the spirit they had fought at the Citadel. This thing was flesh and bone, covered in oily scales that smelled like stagnant water and old graves. And there, fused into the center of its chest like a sick trophy, was Marcus. His face was charred and frozen in a permanent scream, his empty eye sockets leaking the same black sludge as the feral wolves."The feast," the Bone Eater hissed, the sound vibrating through Elena’s very marrow. "The starlight is finally ripe."Cassian was on his feet in a second, his silver red light flaring with a violent intensity. He didn't look at the Silver Fang leader with the ice spear anymore. All his focus was on the monster in the center of

The silence of the mountain didn't last. It wasn't the kind of peace that came after a victory; it was the quiet of a graveyard right before the ground started to move. Elena stood in the grey ash, her fingers still trembling from the heat of the explosion. She looked at Lyra, who was curled in a small, shivering heap at her feet. The girl was breathing, but her skin was like ice. Every time Elena looked at her own hands, she saw the faint, reddish gold light humming beneath her skin. She felt heavy heavier than a human should feel but the hunger that had defined her for weeks was finally quiet. It had been replaced by a deep, vibrating connection to the very rock beneath her feet."Cassian," she whispered. He was standing ten feet away, staring at the horizon. The orange glow of the burning Blackwood forest was reflected in his silver gold eyes, but there was no joy in his expression. His jaw was set so tight it looked like it might shatter. His hands were curled into white knuckled

The obsidian knife felt alive in Elena’s hand. It wasn't cold like the silver bars or the stone floor of the pit. It was hot—a deep, pulsing heat that felt like a heartbeat. As she gripped the hilt, the thin black line of rot on her arm didn't just fade; it turned a brilliant, glowing crimson. The red light crawled up her skin, weaving through the silver and violet, creating a pattern that looked like fire moving through a forest.High Priest Vane didn't move. He stood at the edge of the pit, his silver staff held high, his face a mask of bored arrogance. He didn't think a human girl with a piece of volcanic glass could do anything to the Council’s sacred silver. He thought he had already won."You are wasting your breath, Elena," Vane called down. His voice echoed off the silver-lined walls, sounding metallic and thin. "That blade was carved by the first humans to ever crawl into these caves. It is a relic of a dead age. It cannot break what the Goddess has blessed."Elena didn't loo

The first thing Elena noticed was the weight of her own skin. When the violet shard had lived in her heart and the silver starlight had flowed through her veins, she had felt light. She had felt like a part of the wind and the mountain. Now, waking up on a floor of cold, polished stone, she felt like a bag of wet sand. Her bones ached. Her head throbbed with a rhythmic, dull heat that made her want to vomit. The air in the room was sharp and metallic, a scent that stung the back of her throat and made every breath feel like she was inhaling needles. She tried to reach for the bond. It was an instinct now, as natural as reaching for a glass of water when thirsty. She reached into the dark, quiet space in the back of her mind where Cassian usually lived, but there was nothing. No warmth. No golden heat. No possessive, low growl. There was only a vast, empty silence that made her chest feel like it was being crushed by a giant hand.Cassian, she whispered. Her voice didn't echo. The wa

The cold did not come from the mountain air. It came from the silver blade buried in Elenas back. It was a sharp, biting frost that seemed to turn her blood into ice water. She felt her knees hit the stone step with a dull thud, the vibration traveling up her spine and rattling her teeth. The world tilted, the black vines on the Citadel gates blurring into a single, pulsing mass of shadows. She looked up at Lyra. The girl looked so much like Cassian, with the same sharp jawline and the same long, dark hair. But her eyes were not his. They were flat, oily pools of black that didn't reflect the moonlight. She was smiling, but it wasn't a smile of joy. It was the expression of a hunter watching a trap snap shut.Thank you for the light, sister, Lyra whispered again. Her voice sounded like dry leaves skittering across a grave. Elena felt the silver dagger vibrate. It wasn't just sitting in her flesh. It was drinking. She could feel the silver starlight she had taken from Cassian being s

  • The Alpha's Crimson Vow   Chapter 14: The Bitter Seed

The smoke from the Blackwood forest reached the ridge before the first scouts did. It was a heavy, greasy smell that sat on the back of Elenas tongue, tasting of burnt pine and scorched fur. She stood on the edge of the rock, her hand trembling as she pulled the heavy wool cloak tighter around her body. Beneath the fabric, her skin was crawling. She looked down at her right palm. The thin black line had moved. It was no longer just a speck near her thumb. It was a jagged, dark vein that reached all the way to her wrist, pulsing with a cold, sickly rhythm that had nothing to do with her heartbeat. Every time the silver starlight she had taken from Cassian surged in her chest, the black rot seemed to drink from it. It was a parasite. A seed Marcus had planted when she touched his skin, and now it was growing in the fertile soil of her new power.Elena, Cassian called. She jumped, quickly pulling her sleeve down to hide her arm. She turned to see him standing with Silas. Cassian looked
