Chapter 2

Sabrina’s POV

Instead of a response, a traitorous moan escaped my lips, before I could swallow it, raw, and way too honest, stripping me bare. Warmth pulled to my core, and the smell of my arousal filled the room.

God! I shut my eyes in embarrassment. Never in my life I’ve I wished for the ground to open and swallow me whole…anywhere was better than being here right now, making sounds like a sex deprived woman.

Damn the mate bond! Damn it a million times over! For f**ks sake, it’s been seven whole years! This stupid bond shouldn’t be this intense. But no, it shot through every nerve I had and left nothing standing…like it has been waiting for this moment to ruin me.

Ughhh!!!

It’s been probably like seven seconds, but right now it feels like an eternity. My eyes were still closed, but I could feel his intense gaze on me, and his scent of wood and spice mixed with the scent of my arousal was doing things to me I’m too ashamed to admit. I’m sure his wolf was going berserk right now.

His grip around my neck loosened a little, confirming my theory that I wasn’t the only one being tortured by the bond right now. I took that as my cue to open my eyes, and staring intently at me was Zenith Nightmoor, and nothing about him shows him being the boy I had loved–the boy whose brown eyes softened whenever he looked at me, but that softness was gone, and in its place was something I couldn’t dare name, as it frightened the shit out of me.

I gulped.

Zenith tightened his grip around my throat, not enough to cut my air, but enough to make a point–I was at his mercy. His scent in the room had reduced, he was back to beast mode.

I didn’t fight it, didn’t try to, as it won’t work in my favor. I remained still, my brain calculating its next move amidst the fog because seven years away from werewolf society didn’t make me stupid enough to struggle against an Alpha who hadn’t decided what he wanted to do with me.

I held his gaze, and kept my breathing even. Looking away would tell him something. Anything I do right now, no matter how little or insignificant it might seem would tell him something. I had spent seven years becoming unreadable, and I needed every single one of those years right now.

But as the seconds bled by, I found out it was becoming increasingly difficult.

Zenith hadn’t spoken since ‘So you’re still alive’, he just stared at me, silver occasionally bleeding into his brown iris, a sign that his wolf, Alder, was desperately trying to take control.

“Who helped you?” he finally spoke.

Three words.

Zenith has never been a man of many words, especially at a time when he was angry. He let his actions do the talking.

But I said nothing. Not because I didn’t have what to say, hell no I did, I had prepared for a day like this, I knew it’ll come eventually, but didn’t expect it so soon, or under this circumstance. But at this point, silence was the best and safest option. He didn’t know about Eli, and I plan on keeping it that way.

Zenith ran his other hand through his hair, an action he always did whenever he was frustrated on what to do next.

I guess old habits do die hard as they say.

Zenith released his hold on my throat, and stepped back.

But I stayed still, not doing anything that could be read as an attempt at anything, and just watched him, intently.

He ran his hand through his hair one last time, before pulling out his phone and placing a call.

“The situation has changed. Clear my schedule,” he said to the person on the phone, before hanging up, and turning his attention to me. “You’re coming with me,” he stated as a matter of fact.

I stared at him for a few long seconds. Going with him meant so many things. Was he just going to take me somewhere and interrogate me? Or does it mean taking me back to the Pack I hadn’t been to in years.

I pray to God it’s the latter, and there’s only one way to find out…..

I pushed myself off the wall. “Let me clean this mess, and then get my things,” I said flatly, a tone that suggested I wasn’t going to fight him on this.

Zenith’s eyes widened slightly, anyone would have missed it, but not me. I knew him like the back of my hands, better than anyone on earth. He had expected me to say no, to argue, and get defensive, but here I was doing the complete opposite.

I made my way towards the mess on the floor, with Zenith watching me closely like a hawk. Maybe he thinks I’m going to vanish into thin air, or maybe, just maybe, his brain hasn’t fully accepted the fact that I was alive.

I reached into my apron to take out a towel, but something else slid out with the towel.

A drawing. Small, but very colorful, and impossible to miss.

I froze instinctively for half a second, and that was all it took for Zenith to piece things together, as he reached for the drawing before I could even blink.

Mama and Eli was boldly written on it with crooked writing, and little hearts and star shapes, and below the writing, was Eli’s drawing of the two of us. The meaning was clear as day.

Zenith stared at the drawing for a long moment, and his expression shifted completely, the temperature in the room dropping again, his pheromones merely sucking the air out of my lungs, and making me dizzy. I had to hold a table for support.

Then he looked at me, his expression cold as Ice.

“You have a child.”

CHAPTER 10SABRINA'S POVWe stopped at the closest human city to the Pack and the rest of the journey was by road. Eli fell asleep somewhere between the diner and the second stretch of road, the stuffed wolf still in his fist. I kept my arm around him and stared out of the window, watching the city thin out into fields, then trees.Every mile brought us closer to a place I swore I'd never see again."You're quiet," Zenith said, not turning around."I'm tired.""That's not the same thing."I didn't answer.Cross glanced at me through the mirror. "Want the heater lower? He's sweating a bit.""He's fine. Leave it.""Alright."I checked Eli's forehead anyway. Cool. Normal. I let out a breath I didn't know I'd been holding.Zenith kept glancing at Eli through the mirror. He thought I hadn't noticed."He's asleep, Zenith. You can stop checking on him every two minutes.""I'm not checking on him.""Then what are you doing?""Making sure he's alright.""That's the same thing."He didn't ans

CHAPTER 9ZENITH'S POVNeither of us spoke. The silence stretched long enough that I could hear the hum of the machine beside Eli's bed, the faint drip from somewhere down the hallway, the sound of my own breathing. Sabrina's words still hung in the room like something neither of us wanted to touch. Then Eli mumbled some words to himself.Sabrina moved before I even registered what had happened, her hand brushing his hair back from his forehead. "Eli? Baby, can you hear me?"His eyes fluttered open, unfocused at first, then slowly finding her face. "Mommy?""I'm here.""I don't like hospitals," he mumbled, his voice thick with sleep.A weak laugh escaped her. "I know, sweetheart.""Are we still going on vacation?"Sabrina's smile faltered for half a second before she forced it back into place. "Of course we are.""Promise?""I promise."I stayed where I was, watching them without a word. There was something about the way she spoke to him, patient even though exhaustion had carved itse

CHAPTER 8ZENITH'S POV"So why does he sound like an Alpha?"The question hung between us, swallowed by the roar of the engine and the fast beating of my own heart.Sabrina didn't answer. She stared at Eli as though she hadn't heard me, her trembling fingers brushing damp strands of hair away from his forehead while the little boy whimpered softly in his sleep."Mommy...""I'm here, sweetheart." Her voice shook despite her efforts to steady it. "Everything's going to be okay."I watched her closely, waiting for her to look at me, to deny what I had just witnessed or invent another lie, but she never did. Her entire world seemed to have narrowed to the child lying between us.Cross glanced at me through the rear-view mirror before quietly asking, "Alpha... should I drive faster?""Yes."The car surged forward. No one spoke after that.Eli's breathing gradually became steadier, though the heat radiating from his body hadn't lessened. I could feel it through the thin fabric of his shirt,

CHAPTER 7SABRINA'S POV"Whatever happens, Zenith, don't ever take it off him," I warned, tightening my hold around his wrist until his attention finally moved away from the necklace and settled on me.Zenith stared at my hand before slowly lifting his eyes to my face, and I released him immediately. I knew how my reaction looked, and judging by the suspicion already settling into his expression, I had probably made things worse, but I couldn't bring myself to care. He could ask a thousand questions. As long as the necklace stayed where it was, I'd deal with the rest later."What exactly is so special about the necklace?" Zenith asked, glancing at the thin chain again, and I immediately pulled Eli closer to my chest."It's a necklace, Zenith. My son is unconscious, and this is seriously what you want to talk about right now?""I touched it and it burned me. Normal necklaces don't do that.""Then don't touch it again," I snapped. "Now give me my son."For a moment, I thought he was goi

CHAPTER 6ZENITH'S POV“So that's your plan?” Alder asked with obvious disgust. “You find out your mate is alive after seven years and the stupid thing you could think of is getting your balls empty?”I didn't dignify his outburst with a response and just kept my attention on the apartment building Sabrina had disappeared into with her son. She had asked for ten minutes, and judging from my wristwatch, seven had already passed. Alder on the other hand planned on making my life hell, as he wouldn't stop yapping in Sabrina's defence. One minute he seems to understand the weight of what she did, and the very next he's like a love sick puppy.jeeez!“Lie to yourself all you want,” Alder said quietly. “You still love mate.”“I don't love Sabrina,” I answered, only realizing I had spoken aloud when Cross glanced at me. He quickly averted his gaze, pretending he hadn't heard anything, and I decided to save myself the embarrassment of explaining why I was suddenly announcing my feelings to an

Chapter 5Zenith’s POV“Mommy, is this the old friend from your dreams?” Sabrina’s son asked, and we instinctively glanced at each other briefly.“Mommy, would explain later baby,” Sabrina said, pulling Eli down. “You need to sit down, it's not safe to stand in a moving car.”Sabrina fished out a tab, and a headset, and handed it over to Eli to keep him busy, but the unanswered question still hung in the air, alongside a fact–there’s a man Sabrina always dreams about, so much that she even told her kid about it.I'd bet all the money I'm the world it's the bastard she cheated on me with–its been years and thoughts of him still invades her thoughts, so much that she even dreams about him.Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. My gaze drifted to Sabrina once again through the rearview mirror, but she was intentionally avoiding gaze. I can't believe this was the same woman I fell in love with back in high school.Has she always been like this, or was I so blinded by my love for her that I didn'
