Jacob POV

I grabbed the plates out of the oven where I had been keeping them warm. I set one plate in front of Raven and took a seat beside her at the kitchen island.

“You made French toast?” She asked with excitement. “Thank you.”

“Don’t thank me yet. You haven’t tasted it.” I said as I poured some maple syrup on mine and passed the bottle to Raven. “This is my first attempt, so here is hoping,” I said, crossing my fingers as I shoved the first bite into my mouth and watched Raven do the same.

  • The Alpha's Disappearing Mate   Chapter 33

Jacob POVAs Zane and I drove away from the packhouse, I put Dad on speakerphone, and we filled him in on what had been going on. It made me sick to have to repeat what we had seen to him. “I know it pained the two of you to leave them there, but you are right. There was no way the two of you could have gotten them and yourselves out alive.” Dad said when I was finished.“Dad, have you ever heard of anything like that before?” I asked, still not completely comprehending what had been going on.“From what you are describing, it sounds as if he is trying to burn their marks off,” Dad said.“What?” Zane asked.“It’s an old archaic practise that some Alphas used to use to control their packs. If a couple that the Alpha didn’t approve of marked each other, he would use his Alpha command to make one or both have sex with someone else.”“Shit,” I mumbled.“The two of you do remember that, unlike a lot of the myths that say when you cheat on your mate, they are the one that feels the pain. It

Jacob POVPossible Trauma TriggersZane and I stood there watching helplessly as Alex struggled against his restraints. The table shook. I could see where the cuffs were digging into his wrists.“Fine, have it your way. I will start.” Fred says as he starts to slide his free hand up and under the skirt of the woman on his lap. She starts screaming and fighting with everything she has. That is when I notice that her mate mark is starting to turn red.“NOOOOO, Fred, stop. Don’t do this.” Alex screams as he starts to fight harder to get free.“Oh, I am going to do this. The two of you are going to be used as an example of what happens when the people of this pack forget who is in charge. You were all warned that there was no longer going to be mates. Every female in this pack belongs to me to do with as I see fit. No one is fucking them unless I permit them. And the ones I don’t want can be used by the rest of the pack for entertainment. They will all be taught how to be good little subm

  • The Alpha's Disappearing Mate   Chapter 31

Jacob POVPossible Trauma TriggersThe second we set foot on the pack lands of Alpha Fred Jr., I could sense that there were all kinds of wrong here. We had not seen any patrols along the road on our drive towards the main gate. There had been no one at the large iron gates that stood wide open at the entrance of the pack lands just off the main road. It was like this Fred guy thought that he was invincible or something. It didn’t make sense to me. Most packs put those gates in so the humans that don’t know about our kind don’t accidentally wander onto the lands and see things that they shouldn’t see.On our slow drive up the winding driveway towards the packhouse, we kept an eye out for possible patrols that might stop us. There were none. What we did see just confirmed that things weren’t right. I’m not saying that the people we saw were doing anything wrong. Everyone is entitled to live their life in a way that makes them happy. That being said, as long as all involved are consenti

  • The Alpha's Disappearing Mate   Chapter 30

Raven POVThe two of us sat at the kitchen table colouring together while we waited for the noodles to cook. After we ate, Emma picked out a movie from the small collection of kid DVDs that I had been able to get for her. I got her comfortable with her blanket on the couch while I tried to figure a way out of here. I tried picking and prying at the lock on my ankle to get the cuff off first. The only thing I accomplished with that effort, though, was giving myself another cut.I found where the chain was attached to a hook in the ceiling, but even standing on a chair I couldn’t reach it well enough. Not that it would have made much of a difference. He had used another padlock like the one on my ankle to attach one of the links of the chain to the eye hook that he had screwed into one of the ceiling beams. I even tried twisting the chain to see if I could get the eye hook to unscrew. But because of my height, I was at the wrong angle and couldn’t get enough leverage. After my failed at

Raven POVPossible Trauma TriggersI am in my happy place again, floating in the water with the sun shining on my face. I can feel its warmth in contrast to the cool water that my body is suspended in. I can hear the birds singing. They are muffled since my ears are under the water, but it still gives me a sense of calm. But something feels different this time. Not in a bad way. I still feel calmness around me, but it is almost like there is someone here with me. I lay there enjoying the feeling of weightlessness and the small breeze on my face when I hear a voice. It is just a whisper being carried on the breeze, and I almost missed it at first. “Hold on for a little longer Dear, I’m fixing things.” The voice has a sweet melody to it and blends with the bird songs to the point that I’m not even sure I heard it in the first place.I suddenly feel a gentle weight on my arm as if someone is trying to pull me out of the water. I don’t want to leave. This is the only place that he can’t f

  • The Alpha's Disappearing Mate   Chapter 28

Jacob POVWhen my head finally hit my pillow, I didn’t think that I would dream with how tired I was, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I’m standing at the edge of the lake back home, looking out over the water. I get the feeling that someone is behind me, but I don’t feel threatened. I resist the urge to turn around and just enjoy the view in front of me. The sun is shining, and I can feel its warmth on my face. The birds are singing, and everything feels just right. It’s the calmest I have felt in a long time. It’s one of those perfect summer days that are just made for being outside. That is until I hear a scream pierce the air. The sound is filled with fear and pain. I spin in a circle, trying to pinpoint where it came from. I can’t see anything, but everything has gone quiet. No more birds, and the sun is cloud-covered. The perfect day had been shattered. I stand still listening for movement. Nothing. Then I hear it. The faint sound of music starts to drift on the breeze, and
