ログインI tasted blood and fire on my tongue the second our mouths crashed together.
The private balcony door slammed shut behind us, cutting off the pounding music from the nightclub below. My back hit the railing as Jude shoved me against it, hands fisting in my shirt like he wanted to rip it off.
"What the hell are we doing?" I gasped between kisses, angry and desperate all at once.
Jude bit my bottom lip hard enough to sting. "Shut up and kiss me again before I change my mind."
I grabbed the back of his neck and pulled him in, kissing him like I was trying to punish us both. It was messy. Teeth and tongues and months of built-up frustration exploding between us. He tasted like whiskey and smoke and everything I wasn't supposed to want.
We broke apart gasping. Jude pressed his forehead to mine, breathing hard. "You drive me fucking crazy, you know that?"
"Yeah?" I laughed bitterly, hands still gripping his waist. "Well you're ruining my life, dragon. Every damn day."
The exhibition game had been brutal. A tie that felt like a loss for both of us. Now here we were at the players-only afterparty, alcohol loosening tongues and instincts running wild in the pulsing supernatural club. I'd watched him across the room for an hour before I finally followed him up here.
Jude's fingers traced my jaw, surprisingly gentle. "Tell me why you really came up here, Jax. Don't give me that bullshit about clearing the air."
I closed my eyes, leaning into his touch despite myself. "Because I can't stop thinking about you. The way you move on the field. The way you looked at me in that hallway. It's messing with my head."
"You're not the only one," he admitted, voice rough. His thumb brushed my lower lip. "I came to the league to prove something. To show everyone dragons aren't monsters. But then there's you. This giant angry werewolf who makes me want to fight and fuck and forget everything."
I opened my eyes and searched his face. The vulnerability there hit me harder than any tackle. "Being Alpha captain isn't what everyone thinks. The pressure never stops. Everyone expects me to be strong. Unbreakable. But some days I just want to..."
"To what?" Jude pressed when I hesitated.
"To not carry everything alone," I whispered. The words felt like tearing open an old wound. "Jake tries but he's my beta. The pack looks to me for everything. And now you show up and suddenly all I can think about is how good it feels when you push back."
Jude swallowed hard. His hands slid down to my chest, feeling my racing heart. "You think being the only dragon in the league is easy? Everyone stares. Everyone waits for me to mess up. To prove the old stories right. I'm so fucking isolated, Jax. Even on my own team they keep their distance."
I cupped his face, thumbs stroking his cheekbones. "I see you, though. I see how hard you work. How much you give on that field even when they're whispering behind your back."
"Yeah?" His voice cracked. "Then why do you keep fighting me so hard?"
"Because wanting you terrifies me." I admitted it finally, the truth spilling out raw and painful. "If the packs find out their Alpha is falling for a dragon... it could start another war. Everything I've built. Everything my family sacrificed for. It could all burn."
Jude's eyes darkened with emotion. "You think I don't know that? My own kind would call me a traitor. But when I'm with you... I don't feel alone anymore."
The music from downstairs pulsed through the floor. Bass heavy and primal. It matched the beat of my heart as I pulled him closer again.
"I shouldn't want this," I said against his mouth. "I shouldn't want you."
"But you do." Jude kissed me again, slower this time but no less desperate. His hands roamed my back, pulling our bodies flush together. "I can feel how bad you want me, Alpha."
I groaned into the kiss, walking him backward until his back hit the wall. My hands explored his sides, feeling the subtle texture of scales beneath his shirt. He arched into me, making this sound that went straight to my cock.
"Fuck, Jude," I panted, breaking the kiss to trail my mouth down his neck. "Tell me to stop. Tell me this is a mistake."
He tilted his head to give me better access, fingers digging into my shoulders. "I can't. I won't. Not when you feel this right."
We kissed again, raw and angry and full of all the things we couldn't say out loud. Years of hatred mixing with this new terrifying want. My wolf howled inside me, recognizing its mate even as my brain screamed danger.
Jude pulled back suddenly, chest heaving. His eyes were wild, lips swollen. "We can't go further. Not here. Not like this."
"I know." I rested my forehead against his, trying to catch my breath. My hands were still gripping his hips like I couldn't let go. "This could destroy everything. The league. Our teams. Us."
He nodded, swallowing hard. "But I don't regret it. Not even a little."
"Neither do I," I whispered. The confession scared me more than anything. "That's the problem."
We stayed like that for a long moment, just breathing each other in. The city lights sparkled below the balcony. Music thumped faintly from inside. It felt like the whole world was moving while we stood frozen in this dangerous bubble.
"I should get back," I said finally, voice heavy with regret. "Jake's probably looking for me."
Jude stepped back, creating space between us that felt like miles. His hands flexed at his sides like he wanted to reach for me again. "Yeah. Go. Before someone notices we're both missing."
I moved toward the door but paused with my hand on the handle. "This doesn't change anything on the field. I still have to play you hard."
"Good," he said, a ghost of his usual smirk returning. "I wouldn't want it any other way. But off the field..."
"Off the field we're playing with fire," I finished for him.
Jude's expression softened. "Maybe some things are worth burning for."
I didn't answer. I couldn't. Instead I slipped back inside the club, the noise and lights hitting me like a slap. My lips still tingled. My body still burned with his touch.
Jake found me near the bar a few minutes later. One look at my face and his eyes narrowed.
"You smell like dragon again," he said quietly, pulling me into a corner. "Stronger this time. What happened?"
I grabbed a drink and downed half of it in one go. "Nothing. Everything. I don't know anymore."
"Talk to me, Cap." Jake's voice was full of worry. "You're my Alpha. My best friend. I can't watch you spiral like this."
I set the glass down hard. "We kissed. Up on the balcony. And it wasn't just a kiss, Jake. It felt like... like coming home and falling apart at the same time."
Jake's eyes widened. "Shit. Jax, you know how dangerous this is. The clans. The league officials. If anyone finds out..."
"I know!" I snapped, then lowered my voice. "I know the risks. But when I'm with him I feel alive in a way I never have before. He sees me. The real me. Not just the Alpha captain."
Jake rubbed his face, looking exhausted. "And what about him? Does he feel the same?"
"Yeah." I glanced toward the stairs that led to the balcony. "I think he does. He's just as messed up about it as I am."
I spotted Jude across the room then. He was surrounded by his teammates but his eyes found mine immediately. The heat in that look nearly knocked me over.
Jake followed my gaze and sighed. "You're really doing this, aren't you?"
"I think I already am," I admitted, voice barely above a whisper. My heart raced as Jude started making his way toward us through the crowd.
He stopped a few feet away, nodding politely at Jake before focusing on me. "Cole. Good game tonight."
The words were casual but his eyes said everything else.
"You too, Stone," I replied, trying to keep my voice steady. "Though that last play was dirty."
Jude's lips twitched. "You liked it."
Jake cleared his throat. "I'm gonna... get another drink. You two behave."
As soon as Jake walked away, Jude stepped closer. "You regret it yet?"
"Not even a little," I said honestly. "That's what scares me."
Jude's hand brushed mine briefly, hidden by the crowd. "Me too. But I can't stop thinking about your hands on me. Your mouth. The way you said my name."
I swallowed hard. "We need to be careful. Really careful."
"I know." He looked at me with so much want and fear it made my chest ache. "But I meant what I said up there. Some things are worth burning for."
I watched him walk away, every step pulling at something deep inside me.
The night suddenly felt too loud. Too bright. I was in way over my head and sinking fast.
And the terrifying part was I didn't want to be saved.
I tasted blood and fire on my tongue the second our mouths crashed together. The private balcony door slammed shut behind us, cutting off the pounding music from the nightclub below. I never thought I'd be scared of sitting next to someone in a damn chair. But there I was, forced into a velvet seat at the league's charity gala, with Jude Stone right beside me under the bright lights. My hands were sweating. My wolf was losing its mind."Why the hell did they seat us together?" I muttered under my breath as the cameras flashed.Jude leaned slightly closer, his voice low and mocking. "Because they know the fans eat up our fights. Smile for the cameras, Alpha. Or are you scared they'll see how bad you want me?""Shut up," I hissed, turning to face the interviewer. But my knee brushed Jude's under the table and neither of us pulled away. The contact burned. The reporter leaned in with her fake smile. "Captain Cole and Mr. Stone, the rivalry between you two has been the talk of the league. Care to comment on this historic matchup between werewolf and dragon?"Jude spoke first, smooth as silk. "Historic? More like necessary. Time to show the league what real power looks
I wanted to hurt him the second I saw him step onto the field.Sweat already stung my eyes as I lined up across from Jude Stone in the pre-season scrimmage. The whistle had not even blown yet and my wolf was clawing at my ribs, screaming for blood."You really showed up," I growled across the line of scrimmage, voice low enough that only he could hear. "Thought you might have run back to your mountains after draft night."Jude's golden eyes locked on mine, slit pupils narrowing. His crimson-streaked hair was tied back but a few strands stuck to his sweat-damp forehead. "And miss the chance to knock the great Jax Cole on his ass? Not a chance."The ball snapped.I exploded forward, shoulder lowered, aiming straight for him. Our bodies collided with a crack that echoed across the training pitch. He did not go down easy. Jude twisted mid-air, scales flashing along his arms as he used those damn wings for half a second of glide. His elbow caught me hard in the ribs."Too slow, Alpha," he
They let a dragon back into the league. After everything.I stood in the middle of the Obsidian Dome press pit, lights burning down on me like judgment, and my blood was already boiling. Four hundred years of blood and ash, and they just opened the cage."Jax, you good?" Jake Hart asked, clapping a hand on my shoulder. His voice was low, careful. He knew me too well.I didn't look at him. My eyes stayed locked on the stage where the commissioner was about to make the worst decision in league history. "No. I'm not good. They're about to spit in the face of every pack that lost someone."Jake shifted beside me, his own wolf close to the surface. "You knew this was coming. Rumors have been swirling for months.""Rumors aren't the same as watching it happen." My jaw clenched so hard it ached. "Dragons don't belong here. Not after what they did."A reporter shoved a mic toward my face before I could finish. "Captain Cole! Any comment on the possibility of Jude Stone being drafted tonight?
