Chapter 1

Rowan's POV

The warm air of the study filled the air, the soft flickering lamp illuminated the room as the soft flipping sound of papers disturbed the silence.

My eyes scanned the scroll thoroughly, unable to really grasp what it meant.

“A moon born Omega?” I raised an eyebrow.

It said here about an old legend of the Moon born Omega, born once every thousand years, believed to be capable of a lot more than being just blessed by the mood goddess. This was new, and really interesting.

Hmmm.

I leaned back on the chair, reading further and my eyes stopped at a particular paragraph.

“If the moon born was a male, he would be capable of child birth.”

A soft, forced chuckle escaped my lips. What a load of crap! These stories were interesting, but this particular one was crazy.

But it didn't stop me and I read further and it said that a thousand years ago, after the death of the last moon born Omega, every record of the Moonborn legacy vanished.

Hmmm, well, that was more than enough reason for me not to believe such a legend. I was among the majority that believed that such legacies and legends were nothing because no male can give birth. I had read enough werewolf books and to think a male Omega could give birth was another level of paranoia by these unknown history authors.

And of all the craps I've heard and read, that's the worst of all.

I took a few strides to the window, inhaling deeply, the fresh air of the morning allowing it seep into my soul.

All my life, I've never been outside these walls. For some reason, my parents said I was born with some sort of weakness and I have to survive on the meds they give me every morning.

Speak of the devil…

A sharp knock echoed through the room and a soft voice followed.

“Rowan, it's time for your meds,” she called.

I rushed to the door with a scoff, and Lady Mei, my mother, was standing with a soft smile.

She walked in and we sat together as she administered the drugs to me, making sure I took it.

“But mom, why do I still need to keep taking it? I don't feel weak…”

She sighed deeply and just nodded her head. She never liked to speak about it and I didn't want her to cry before me so I dropped it.

As she arranged the tray to leave, my eye scanned the room and caught sight of a sharp blade, a sword that was believed to be a thousand years old as I had read, wielded by the last Moonborn Omega was also in the study, glowing with aura and power. My dad was an art collector so I stole it from his study to also learn about it.

I stood up slowly and just as I was about to reach for it, she pulled me right back with a thick scowl on her face.

“What are you trying to do? Where did you get that from?” She scolded and knew the answer already by my sorry face. “You know you're not allowed to touch any knife or sharp objects, you should rest, we can't lose you,” she warned and hugged me softly.

All I did all day was remain in this study, reading about stories of werewolves and other crazy supernatural creatures that were just fantasies.

“But mom,” I shrugged as she put me back to bed. “Why do I have to remain here and read about all of these things? Why do you also have too many supernatural books?” I raised an eyebrow.

She sighed again and patted my head gently.

“You know we love reading, your father and I…”

“But you've never touched any of the books here, Dad hasn't either,” I pressed.

She leaned into my side, the sheets rustling softly as she pressed her lips to my cheek.

“We've not really had time like we used to,” she explained calmly with a warm charming smile on her face. But that was really weird though.

“You should get some rest,” she begged with a big smile. “Tomorrow's a big day for you,” she kissed my forehead and was about to leave when I held her back.

It was my eighteenth birthday tomorrow and all I've ever wanted was to see the outside world just once, at least for one day, be like every normal kid too.

“Please, can I go outside tomorrow…” she didn't even let me finish and she snapped, fright written all over her face.

“Rowan, you already know the answer. We're only trying to keep you safe. Now get some rest,” she managed to force another smile and finally left, shutting me back to my misery.

Left for me, I would have tried escaping a long time ago, but the estate was guarded by heavy security that not even a fly would get through unnoticed.

I spent the rest of the day reading books and doing random things that any bored kid would do. She made sure all the swords were taken away by the maids that came right after her, including the ones I had sneaked in to play with.

The night came swiftly and I had no playmate or someone to talk to. Fatigue was the best friend now and swooped into action and in a short while, I was fast asleep.

Shortly after that, my troubled mind plunged me into a vivid world of dreadful imagination.

I saw a man, clad in white ancient robes with lots of runes that seemed to have no meaning or I didn't understand them. I had read lots of books and it was strange I couldn't recognize anyone. He stood alone, surrounded by a sea of crimson flames.

My eyes widened in shock and sweat beaded my face immediately as it felt real, with some strange and terrifying energy radiating off him.

On one hand, he held a baby, wailing and sobbing heavily and with the other hand, he tried to reach out to me, but didn't say a word at first.

Tear drops rolled down his face and he screamed at me at once, his voice sounding like a host of a thousand men, speaking at once and echoing in my head.

“You caused this!"

I jolted awake, my heart pounding heavily and my body drenched in sweat, but the air around me was heavy, too heavy and hot. That was when I noticed I was surrounded by thick smoke.

My eyes widened at once and the heat of the flame surrounding me was intense.

“Mom! Dad!” I called, trying to move back but my body thudded against the ground, and the fire closed in on me immediately.

I sat there, shivering as it advanced further, hoping it was still a nightmare of my imaginations and squeezed my eyes shut, trying to calm my mind and make it go away but it never did. My chest heaved back and forth, waiting for the mighty strange flame to consume me as this was no longer a dream.

But then, a strange energy filled my soul, as if something inside me had awakened.

My eyes remained shut for a while and when I finally opened them, the flame never harmed me. Instead, it split apart into the shape of wolves, circling me and full of fright as if making way for their king.
