“Damn it, Odessa, open your eyes!” I yelled even as my voice cracked, and I shook her gently in my arms.

Her body had completely gone limp, and she was slowly starting to get colder with each passing second. My annoying, lovable little sister had just fallen from the sky, and while her lips turned blue and her eyelids fluttered faintly, I knelt there, watching as she slowly slipped away.

“Don’t do this,” I muttered, pulling her close to my chest. “Come on, Odessa. This isn’t funny.” I cried, but there was no response. Her fingers didn’t so much as twitch under the sound of my voice.

I felt the panic inside of me grow, slowly but surely. It got to the point that I could barely even think straight anymore, and I immediately stood up. One second, I was kneeling on the grass, and the next, I was running across the estate with Odessa in my arms.

The muscles in my legs bulged as I ran faster at a speed that any electric caddy could dare hope to match. I could barely feel Odessa’s

{Dominic}Walking into the war council tent felt like stepping into the center of a storm. The air was thick with anticipation, and the sharp rustle of cloaks and armor filled the silence. Everyone was already seated—Alpha Grimhold with his arms crossed like a stone statue, Dahlia flipping a dagger between her fingers, Allen murmuring softly. Eliza sat in calm confidence, sipping what I presumed was tea. Mace, Juno, and Felix perched nearby, eyes alert and tense. And then there was Lyra, she sat beside me at the head of the table. Her hand brushed mine under the table, and it grounded me enough to breathe.“Let’s begin,” I said, voice low but steady. All eyes turned to me. Even with the ache in my chest, and the sting of betrayal still raw and bitter on my tongue, I forced myself upright.I cleared my throat, “We’re calling this meeting for one reason,” I started, and already my throat burned, but not from poison this time. “Because I was betrayed by the one person I never thought wou

{Lyra}Varen’s roar echoed off the throne room walls. “Where are they?!” he bellowed, staggering backward as the last flicker of light burned out, leaving his eyes bloodshot and twitching. His eyes glowed molten gold, hair wild, chest heaving. One glance at his snarling face, and I knew I had maybe three seconds before he launched himself at me.“You little—!”I whispered the same incantation under my breath, already backing toward the shadows. Another explosion of light burst from my hands, blinding the entire room again.Varen screamed again, but this time in frustration rather than surprise, along with Ryker and the two guards flanking them. They clawed at their eyes, stumbling back, howling curses. My feet moved before I could think, and I darted through the haze of confusion, out of the throne room and toward the exit of the mansion. The second I burst out of there, I felt like I could breathe again. The battle was still alive and vicious. Smoke curled through the sky like a demo

{Lyra}Something was wrong, and the hairs on my neck that were standing on end only confirmed it.One second, I was blasting corrupted wolves into ash with Kael’tharis’ blessing pulsing through my veins, and the next, my chest caved in like someone had punched through my ribs from the inside.I felt the mate bond shiver inside of me, then flare up almost immediately like it was on fire.“Dominic.” I gasped. My head snapped toward the mansion before I even realized I’d started moving. Something had definitely happened. The battlefield roared around me, but all I could hear was the rapid thudding of my own heart.Dahlia called after me, but her voice faded into the wind.Through smoke and blood and the stench of sulfur, I sprinted straight for the mansion. Past scorched soil and fallen enemies, through shattered doors and building rubble. I followed the trail of destruction—smashed columns, bodies of fallen rogues, blood-splattered marble like someone had painted with violence. Each ha

{Dominic}Varen wasn't taking any chances. The second I took one step forward, he spun and vanished through the archway like smoke through a crack.“Go!” I barked.Ryker didn’t need telling twice. We bolted after him, boots slamming against the marble as our footsteps pounded in sync. The corridor twisted sharply, torches flickering madly on damp stone walls. My blood pounded in rhythm with my footsteps, the scent of blood and rot growing stronger with every turn. The heavy door at the end of the hall groaned open under my shoulder. The sound echoed through a stone chamber soaked in gloom. The distinct smell of silver, sweat, and fear hit me the moment I ran in, we skidded to a stop. The room was cloaked in thick shadows, broken only by a single lantern swinging from the ceiling. In its dim halo, I saw Reina. She was chained to the wall, wrists shackled in silver cuffs that burned angry welts into her skin. A gag pressed tight against her bruised mouth. Her arms hung limp, her head bo

{Dominic}The battlefield smelled like blood, iron, and ash—an oddly comforting mix if you were raised for this kind of chaos. My claws sliced through the ribcage of another corrupted creature, its body crumpling to the dirt with a wet thud. I didn’t stop to look. That was a luxury I couldn't afford, especially not when a dozen more were snapping at my heels.A low growl vibrated in my chest as I lunged again, tearing through sinew and shadow. I’d lost track of how many corrupted creatures I’d taken down. My claws were slick with grime, my knuckles bruised from slamming into bone, and every breath burned like fire in my lungs.Lyra’s divine radius pulsed around us, humming with Kael’tharis’s blessing like a heartbeat in my ears. Every time a corrupted creature stumbled into her field, their limbs shook like wet noodles, giving us the edge we desperately needed. But even with the blessing, there were so many of them.Another one lunged. I turned mid-swing and buried my claw into its g

{Lyra}My pulse hadn’t stopped racing. My lips still tingled like they were drunk on Dominic’s kiss. I could still feel the ghost of his breath in my hair, and hear the need in his voice.“We’ll finish this after the war.” Those words should not have felt as thrilling as they did and yet, here I was, sitting in a glorified war tent, glowing from the inside out like I’d swallowed a hundred fireflies.I didn’t want him to leave. My hand twitched to reach out, to tell him to come back, to beg for five more seconds. But before I could say a word, the knock came again. Persistent and oddly timed was the best way to describe it.Dominic paused, and his jaw tightened like it physically pained him to walk away. He finally got to the door, and opened it slowly.“Isaac?” Dominic’s voice softened with surprise.I sat up straighter at once. “Isaac?”My little brother peeked inside, a tuft of dark curls sticking up from his head like he’d been wrestling with his pillow or maybe just his thoughts.
