{Lyra}

I stepped out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around my neck, the damp ends of my now-brown hair dripping onto the hem of my oversized shirt. I patted them softly, squinting at my reflection in the mirror above the hallway console.

The box had said ‘Warm Chestnut.’ a freaking lie, it was more like ‘Mediocre Brown that Screams Average Citizen number 5.’ But I guess that’s what you get from buying dye at a 24 hour gas station in the middle of nowhere.

“I can work with this,” I muttered, flipping my hair forward, then I grabbed the hairdryer, plugging it in, and cranked it to max. The dryer screamed to life, letting out a blast of hot air, and I bent my head, fluffing and drying for like eight seconds.

Then the lights blinked, flickering for a while, and then everything went dead.

“No, no, no!” I whined, smacking the dryer like it could fix the entire grid. I threw the dryer onto the counter and yelled, “Isaac!”

“Yeah?” he hollered from somewhere in the house, probably on his

    {Dominic}Grimhold led me into a room with the sign “War Room” boldly written on it. He pushed open the door, and we stepped inside. The room looked exactly like how you would imagine a war room to look. A long ironwood table dominated the center of the room; there were maps pinned under the glass, and magic runes were carved into the edges. The large stone wall of the room was decorated with torches that immediately lit up the second the door opened, and the wall that faced us directly had an assortment of old weapons lined up on it. “Take a seat,” Grimhold said.I pulled out one of the chairs and sat, “Alright. What was so important that it couldn’t be said in front of the others?”Instead of giving me a direct answer, Grimhold walked to a cabinet in the corner and took out a key, then he went to the drawer beside the table and opened it using the key, pulling out a thick, rolled scroll.“A week ago,” he began, laying the scroll down on the table, “Our pack seer had a vision. A vi

    {Lyra}The sound of my palm meeting Victor’s smug, oily face echoed through the hall, and the silence that followed was just as loud.People stopped talking and looked in our direction, but I could’ve honestly cared less at that point. If they wanted to stare, then let them stare. If they wanted to whisper or gossip, then so be it. I was beyond caring about whatever these people did because at that moment, I had more important things on my mind.“How dare you?” I hissed as my body shook with anger. An anger that had been buried for far too long, and couldn’t be helped anymore. “How dare you come here, parading yourself around like you’re some respectable man and try to ruin my marriage over some slave girl?”Victor’s hand slowly touched the red mark that had begun to show on his cheek. “I’m sorry, my lady,” he apologized, but the act of sympathy only made me even angrier.“Do you hear yourself?” I continued, taking a step toward him and watching the panic flicker in his beady eyes. “I

    {Dominic}I sized up every world in that hall, and though they were powerful, none of them could face me head-on. I noticed their surprise when I released my aura and it rivaled theirs. Usually, I wouldn’t care about a test of strength with these people, but I needed to show them I was an asset to have as an ally, and nobody. And I mean, nobody makes my wife uncomfortable.Suddenly, Grimhold’s deep, bear-like chuckle filled the room. “Enough with the stares. This is Dominic Bloodhound, Alpha of the mighty Bloodhound pack, and King of the Eastern region.”The eyes of the wolves widened, and gradually, I felt them pull in their auras. Then they all bowed, dipping their heads low in reverence.“Please,” I raised a hand, stepping forward as they looked up at me. “There’s no need to bow. I’m not here as a king, but.as a guest of Alpha Grimhold, just like all of you.”What better way to gain their support than to act like I am but one of them. Slowly, their heads raised, and their eyes were

    {Lyra}The next morning, I and Dominic boarded his private jet, heading to the north. I sat by the window with my legs curled beneath me, and my chin propped on my fist as I watched the clouds roll past us. It was such a beautiful sight, yet it couldn’t stop the gnawing feeling in my stomach. We were heading to Alpha Grimhold’s territory, which wasn't exactly the ideal getaway destination.I pressed my forehead against the glass, sighing softly as I tried to figure out a way to be okay with this. How was I supposed to waltz into the home of an Alpha who once wanted to marry off his daughter to Dominic, and now he ended up with me as his contract bride instead? “Everything alright?” Dominic asked from across the cabin. He was sipping black coffee and looking way too calm for someone who might be walking into an ambush.“Peachy,” I murmured, not turning from the window. “Just thinking about how nice it’ll be to meet yet another family of a woman you were supposed to marry.”He chuckle

  • The Alpha's Fated Desire   CHAPTER NINETY-FIVE

    {Lyra}It was safe to say that I wasn’t a fan of Dominic as of that moment, and it was justified. His father, along with his entire pack, literally slaughtered my ancestors and drove them out of their hometown while my mother was pregnant with me.But even with that, I wasn't heartless. I noticed how Dominic’s shoulders caved in when he was talking to Doctor Maek about Odessa’s condition. He looked like a balloon that had been poked with a pin, and all the air was slowly seeping out.I tried my best to cheer him up, but I felt like there was this wall between us now, and no matter how much I wanted to, I couldn’t just immediately break through, because deep down, I knew Odessa wasn’t going to get better unless I did something.And that’s how I found myself at the stone doors of the secret garden for the second time that day, and what I also prayed would be the very last time I would have to come here. I pushed the key into the door and turned, causing the doors to groan open as I step

    {Dominic}It all happened so fast. One second, Evangeline had placed her hand on Odessa’s forehead, making her eyes fly open with that weird green glow, and the next thing I knew, there was a small explosion.The impact threw Evangeline backward and into the air. My eyes flashed, and I leaped in the direction she was falling toward, and caught her in my arms before she hit the floor.I felt her shudder as my arms closed around her, and her eyes were shut tight, but after a few seconds, when she realized that she hadn’t slammed into the wall, she looked up, and I offered her a small smile.But she didn’t smile back, and instead, quickly pushed away from me, standing on her own two feet. I wanted to ask why she was so hostile all of a sudden, but before I could, I heard a loud screech that made not just me, but Evangeline and doctor Maek cover their ears as well.The sound was coming from Odessa, and she was trembling, causing the bed to shake violently.“Doctor!” I yelled, looking at h

    {Lyra}“The witch?” she repeated with a soft chuckle, “I’d prefer if you called me by my name, I’m Alissa.” She placed a hand over her chest.Her voice was gentle and soothing, but something about her made me weak in the knees. Fear had already started to creep into my chest again, and I’m sure my heart pounded so loudly she must have heard it.“Don’t be afraid, little one. I’m not going to hurt you,” she said, finally dropping to the ground so her feet touched the floor.My legs finally stopped wobbling, but I still stumbled back a few steps, wanting to put a little bit of distance between us. Alissa chuckled as she watched me, “Don’t you think if I wanted to hurt you. Lyra, I would have done it a long time ago?”I frowned, mostly because she had a point. Whenever I was in trouble, I would hear her voice, or the ring would react in some way. She was the only reason why I managed to survive that entire time.“Be that as it may, it still doesn’t explain why Odessa is lying in a bed ri

    {Lyra}Dominic’s grip on my wrist tightened even more, making me wince. The usual warmth in his eyes had completely disappeared and was replaced by a strange, savage glint.“Answer me, Evangeline.” he growled deeply. There was absolutely no room for games in his voice, and I knew, right then and there, that I’d been caught.“But I can’t understand why he would act like this over a simple key, or was it more than that?” I pondered.My lips parted, ready to argue, but I thought about it and clamped my mouth shut. Lying to him wouldn’t help me in any way right now, and honestly, I really didn’t have the energy to keep beating around the bush.“I was returning the ring. That’s it.” I finally said.His brows drew together like I had just confessed to murder right in front of him. “What ring? You mean the witch’s ring?”“Yes,” I said, exhaling softly.I watched his jaw clench as he spoke, “Why did you take it?” His hand clenched my wrist tighter, and I couldn’t help it anymore.“Ow!” I yelp

    {Lyra}“First question, who was that man ?”Varen raised a brow, staring at me, “What are you talking about?”“Don’t try to be smart, Varen.” I hissed, glaring at him. “You know who I’m talking about.”Varen smirked, taking another bite of his pie, “I’m not sure I do, enlighten me.”“The man in the black and gold mask at the gala yesterday.” I snapped, earning a chuckle from Varen.“He was what you would call an acquaintance.” He said, taking another slice of his pie.I furrowed my brow at how nonchalant he was being about this whole ordeal, “Well, acquaintance or not, I don’t appreciate strangers casually approaching me, and threatening me for no fucking reason.”I heard him growl, and he paused with the fork just metres from his mouth, then he set the fork back down and looked me straight in my eyes. “Now listen here, little girl. I need to make sure that you are kept in check, and if that means surprise visits from a few of my acquantainces…” he paused, licking his lips menacingly,
