{Dominic}

As our lips parted, I stared into the eyes of the woman I loved more than anything in the world.

“I love you, Lyra.” The words escaped my lips before I could process them, and I followed with a raspy breath and a smile.

Her lips curled upward and slowly parted, “And I love you, Dominic Bloodhound.”

The rain continued to pour, blurring my sight, but Lyra shone so brightly in my eyes, my heart burned in a way I couldn’t describe with words.

The world around us disappeared, and for those few precious seconds, it was just both of us, until I heard the yell of Grimhold, shouting my name.

“DOMINIC!”

I turned toward his voice just as he emerged, with Dahlia, and my remaining Deltas right behind him. They paused when they saw me and Lyra on our knees in such a position, but I could honestly care less.

Lyra cleared her throat as I dragged myself to my feet and helped Lyra to hers, still holding onto her hand.

“Good to see you alive too,” I muttered toward Grimhold with a small, croo

    {Lyra}At first, I thought I was being dramatic. The black car had stayed behind us since the manor, sure. But maybe that was just… a coincidence. A tourist, or some nosy Frostvale local. Someone who liked tinted windows and slow driving. Totally normal, right?Until it changed lanes when we did. Then slowed when we did. Even freaking turned—twice—when we did.I shifted slightly in the seat, letting my head rest against the window like I was admiring the snowfall. In reality, my fingers were busy under my coat, swiping into my phone.“Did you send a security car to tail us?” Dominic - No. Why?“There’s a black car behind us. And it won’t leave. Been there since we left.”Dominic - Stay calm. Stay visible. Stay with the girls. And whatever you do, don’t panic. I’m handling it.I swallowed hard, locking the phone and sliding it into my coat discreetly.“Everything okay?” Odessa asked beside me, mid-laugh, as Lena tried to balance a mini champagne bottle on her head.“Yep,” I said, inj

    {Lyra}It ended in a tie.That’s what we all agreed on—though some argued Dominic crossed the marker first, others claimed Grimhold’s jump sealed the win. I wasn’t about to get into that debate because both of them were puffed-up peacocks by the end of it, grinning like they’d just invented skiing.“You’re both ridiculous,” I said, laughing as Dominic unstrapped his boots and shook snow from his hair.“Ridiculously talented,” he corrected, catching his breath. “Admit it—you were impressed.”“I was worried,” I replied, brushing off my coat. “For the snow. It had to survive both your egos landing on it.”Isaac and Odessa were still arguing over who actually won, while Grimhold had the audacity to bow dramatically before heading toward the snowmobiles that would carry us back up to the Frostvale Manor. I caught Myra giving him a slow clap as she passed by with that sly glint in her eyes.By the time we made it back to the manor, everyone was flushed and breathless. Our faces glowed from

    {Lyra}I stood in an open space with no ceiling, just the open sky and horizon for miles. Surrounded by strangers breathing heavy, full of some emotion, and I'm thinking... I know... in a couple of minutes I'm going to feel better.All of us paused, looking down the slope with that shared expression.Terror. Excitement. Anticipation.‘In three, two, one..’The whistle sounded and screams followed We shot down the slope like bullets.I screamed louder than anyone else, arms flailing for a moment until I got the right balance. Knees bent, body leaned slightly forward. Let the board do the work. This wasn’t my first time skiing… but it had been a while. A long while. I wasn’t sure whether I was trembling from the cold or the thrill of it all.Around me, bright jackets blurred past like streaks of color in a painting. Isaac zoomed ahead of me, yelling something about being “the Snow King,” while Odessa nearly fell but twisted into a surprisingly graceful spin that had Myra clapping like

    {Lyra}The jet's hum softened as we dipped lower through the thick clouds. Below us, the white-tipped peaks of Frostvale emerged like teeth from the Earth, packed with snow so white it looked like untouched icing on a cake.I nudged Isaac gently from his nap, whispering, “Hey… we’re here.”He blinked sleepily, then pressed his nose against the window.“Woahhhhh. It’s like… like that one painting in the hall. But everywhere.” He breathed, completely stunned.Odessa leaned across him, peering through the other window. Her pink sunglasses fogged up instantly. “This is real? People actually live in these snow lands? Oh myyyyyyyy, why didn't you bring me here sooner, Dominic?”Dominic and I chuckled. “Welcome to Frostvale.”As we touched down on the private strip, the door hissed open, and the cold kissed our faces like it missed us.Isaac let out a delighted squeal, zipping ahead with his coat flapping behind him. “This is the BEST kind of cold!”And just like any kid, he stuck out his to

    {Dominic}The car hummed beneath me, quiet and smooth like it had secrets to keep. Outside the window, Crownshaven was beginning to look like itself again—at least, the version of itself not buried under ash and blood.New paint-coated storefronts, scaffolding hugged half-built walls, and laughter echoed faintly from a rebuilt café we’d driven past just minutes ago. Not long ago, those same streets had run with fear. Now, it was flower carts and scaffolding and that faint sound of a violin being played badly somewhere down the block.Progress. Expensive, slow, beautiful progress.My hand twitched against the leather seat, and I felt fingers tighten around mine—soft, warm, familiar. I glanced sideways.Lyra didn’t look at me. Her gaze stayed fixed on the other side of the window, eyes tracing the skyline like she was seeing something beyond the glass. But her fingers were tangled with mine, and they had no intention of letting go.I gave her fingers a playful tug.She turned her head,
