Merlin raised her hand to her mouth in an effort to muffle the scream that was threatening to come out. Beside her, Sébastien stepped out of the shadows, placing himself between the two women. He hid his anxiety and surprise, feigning nonchalance, while he began calculating their exit back to the waking world.

The Alpha's mansion was packed with all the visiting Alphas, each bringing their own personal entourage. The mansion had been decorated in silver and gold, with swaths of gauzy silver and gold fabric, hanging from the ceiling around the dance floor in the ballroom. They spent the next few days poring over its contents until, eventually, they found what they were looking for. It was rare for a witch to absorb the powers of another, but it wasn't impossible, and so there existed a spell that could reverse it. They continued walking through the forest, stopping every now and then, to listen for any sound, but only the ominous silence pressed all around. Zeke stayed close behind her, he had no idea where they were going but she moved with a confidence that told him that she knew where she was going.
