I ran faster than I'd ever run in my life.

The medical ward was in chaos when I arrived. Healers rushing around. Guards securing the area. And in the center of it all, Lucy on a bed, blood soaking through her shirt.

"Move!" I shoved my way through. "Lucy!"

She was conscious but barely. Her eyes found mine, filled with pain and fear.

"Someone came in," she gasped. "Wearing a mask. They had a knife. Tried to stab me in the heart but I moved and they got my shoulder instead."

"Did you see who it was?"

"No. But they said something. Said this was a warning. That I was just the first."

Lucian appeared beside me, taking in the scene. "Get her stabilized. I want guards on this room twenty-four seven. No one gets in or out without clearance."

The head healer nodded and went to work on Lucy's wound. I held her hand, trying not to fall apart.

This was Vivian. It had to be. She'd said she'd target people I cared about, and Lucy was on that list.
