Isla's POV

Killian woke up as I was putting on the last swipe of gloss. He blinked at me from the bed, hair a mess, voice still rough from sleep.

“Are you going out?” he asked.

“To see Liam,” I said, not looking away from the mirror.

He hummed and folded his arms behind his head. “Oh. I almost forgot.”

“Come with me,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady.

He shook his head. “Nah. I don’t need to see someone I won’t see again.”

That landed like a slap. I clenched my jaw, kept my face neutral, and finished pinning my hair. I didn’t argue. I didn’t raise my voice. I just gave him a look, one that said I heard him, and I didn’t agree.

He watched me for a beat longer, then turned away. I left anyway.

Sheila was already leaning against the Bugatti when I stepped outside, arms folded, sunglasses perched on her head. She straightened the moment she saw me

Daphne's POV I pushed the door open and stepped inside with Mia and Tasha trailing closely behind me.“Tell me you know of those things, Daphne!” Mia’s voice cut sharp, almost a scream, her words tumbling over the same question she had hurled at me since we left the scene at the station. She was relentless, her fear dressed in anger.I didn’t give her the satisfaction of an answer. My face stayed even, calm in the way I had trained it to be, though I knew she was searching for a part that knew of what was happening. The blazer slipped from my shoulders. I hung my suit in its usual place, somewhere only I bothered to remember. I let my body fall into the chair, the leather creaking under me. My limbs sank deep, heavy with exhaustion.“Do you even hear yourself, Mia?” Tasha snapped, finally breaking the silence she had held all the way home. She stepped past her and fixed her with a hard stare. “You sound

Killian's POV I stood outside the cell with Liam. The corridor smelled like disinfectant, nothing comforting. Caleb’s five steps behind, carrying the box of vervain like it’s the most precious cargo in the world. I should be pacing. Instead I keep my hands in my pockets and count the tiles.Isla’s voice slides through the bars, flat and hateful. “Don’t stress yourself, Killian.” She smirks even though I can see the tremor in her jaw. “You can’t rescue me, and you’ll be a fool to try. I feel nothing for you. Nothing!”It’s the way she spits the words that tells me she’s not herself. She’s railing at me like she’s daring me to prove her wrong. But the set of her shoulders, the hollow cold in her eyes, that’s not Isla. I remember the girl who laughed at bad jokes and hid coffee rings with a stubborn hand. This lady before me is a puppet to a compulsion.“Shut up and wait for help,” I tell her. My voice is flat beca

Killian's POV I was alone in the gym, I needed it. I slid my hands into the punching glove, pulled them tight, and went straight for the bag. My fists slammed into it over and over, short jabs, heavy hooks. The bag rocked and swung, but I didn’t stop. I drove into it harder, teeth clenched, sweat dripping from my jaw onto the floor. Every hit carried something I couldn’t put into words, something knotted inside me that only pain and effort could pull loose. When my arms gave out, I dropped the gloves, chest heaving, and grabbed the dumbbells. My muscles strained until they shook, until I could barely hold the weight above me. I didn’t care. I welcomed the ache, the fire that spread through my arms and chest. I pushed until the metal slipped from my hands and clattered down, leaving my palms raw and shaking.I moved to the treadmill next. I set the pace too high on purpose and started running. My feet

Killian's POV The beeping hadn’t stopped ringing in my head, even after the guard’s scanner went still in front of Liam and the girl. At first, I thought it was another trick, another mistake. But when the guard demanded the mage, when the crowd leaned in like wolves scenting blood, I felt something twist hard in my chest.I watched her. Isla. The way her lips curved into that small smile, claiming innocence. And then the guard called for a volunteer.I should have stepped in. I should have ended it there. But before I could, Tasha slid forward, like she’d been waiting her whole life for this moment. Her voice, her arrogance, it irritated me. And when her hands came out holding those two golden mages, one in each palm, the hall detonated with whispers. My body went still.Two. Not one. Two.It was as if my spirit elevated from my body, voices clawing at my ears.“She’s the one!”“Right

Liam's POV I leaned against the bar, nursing a glass I hadn’t touched. My eyes never drifted far from Killian. He had Daphne pinned down with that stare of his, making sure she's not leaving her sight. But it wasn’t Daphne that worried me, it was Isla. Alpha Killian has instructed me to keep my eyes on Arielle while he would keep Daphne entertained in case any of them was planning anything against Isla. She had excused herself, whispered something into Killian’s ear, then disappeared into the corridor. I didn’t like her leaving out of sight. I tried to keep calm, but my gut wouldn’t let me. Most of the people here would surely stand against Isla once they know who she is. And if she so much as stumbled into their trap, they’d eat her alive. My phone buzzed with some irrelevant message, but I ignored it. My eyes flicked toward the far end of the hall, to where she’d gone. A shadow moved there a moment la

Isla's POV I tried to keep myself from getting exploded by excitement, as we were about to step in, Killian locked his arms with mine and we entered. Stares, almost every influential person's eyes were on us. I stretched my ear trying to hear what they were saying. "Wow, is that Alpha Killian's lover? So beautiful!" I heard one of them say, probably an outsider. "And here comes the luckiest girl in the world." Another said. My ears blocked without my permission when I heard Arielle's voice, "This girl must have quite a charm to steal Alpha Killian's heart." I couldn't have misheard it, that was her voice. My eyes went red immediately, though I forced a smile to stay. Killian’s grip on my arm tightened, almost as if he sensed the shift in my chest. I dared not look in Arielle’s direction, though every nerve in my body screamed for me to. If I met her eyes now
