The next morning, I started looking for a way to leave.

Not immediately tho, I wasn’t packing. I wasn’t making plans to disappear. I was simply trying to understand what leaving would actually require. I found Mara in the servants’ corridor after breakfast.

She had worked at the estate long enough to remember me before Seraphine returned, but she never treated me differently because of it.
