Hazel's POV
Thirty minutes later, I sat on the examination table, still very shaken from the near accident. My hands rested on my stomach as if to reassure myself that everything was fine. When the door opened, I glanced up and my mouth fell open in surprise.
It was the same man who had just saved me in the parking lot. As if I needed him to be any closer to me.
“Looks like we meet again,” he said, stepping inside with a clipboard in hand. “Though I have to say, I prefer seeing my patients in a hospital room rather than under the wheels of a car.”
I let out a breathy laugh. “Trust me, I prefer it this way too.”
He smiled, pulling up a stool to sit across from me. His white lab coat had an insignia of a wolf's head on it, along with 'WolfCare General Hospital' written below it in blue lettering. “I didn’t get a chance to introduce myself earlier. My name is Dr. Whyte.”
His surname confirmed what I had read on his badge, but now that I was looking at him properly, I couldn’t shake the strange familiarity he carried.
“You’re new here,” I inclined my head. “I’ve been here thrice already, and I'm sure I've never seen you before.”
“Well, I just transferred here last week,” he said, flipping through my chart. “I usually work in emergency, but they needed an extra set of hands in obstetrics today.”
“Lucky me, I guess,” I murmured.
He glanced up in amusement. “Lucky indeed.”
A knock on the door interrupted our conversation. A nurse entered, holding a file. She gave me a smile and revealed fangs.
“Mrs Marshall's test results,” she announced, handing them to Dr. Whyte before stepping back.
I adjusted anxiously. This was the moment I had been waiting for, the moment I would find out more about the tiny life growing inside me.
Dr. Whyte scanned the document, his brow lifting slightly. “Well?” I pressed him. "Is something wrong?"
"Quite the opposite." He looked up and grinned. “Congratulations, Mrs Marshall. You’re having twins.”
My heart jumped for joy and a laugh bubbled out of me. “Twins?”
He nodded. “Two strong heartbeats. Looks like your little scare outside didn’t faze them one bit.”
Tears gathered in my eyes again, but for the first time in a while, they weren’t from sadness. “That’s amazing!”
Dr. Whyte smiled. “I’d say double the joy, but I hear it’s also double the trouble.”
I chuckled, pressing a hand to my stomach. “I think I’ll take it.”
He stood and set the file aside. “I have other patients to see, but rest here for five minutes before you leave, alright? Just to be safe.”
I nodded. He gave me a brief nod in return before walking out the door, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
I should have been ecstatic, and yes, I was. But the happiness was also filled with longing.
I waited for twenty minutes instead of the five minutes I was told. I found myself glancing at the door, hoping and waiting for Blaine to show up. I needed to share this good news with him, but he didn’t come.
Minutes passed and still, nothing.
Eventually, I pushed myself up from the table. My feet carried me out of the room, down the hallway and toward the exit. And just as I stepped into the hospital foyer, I spotted Dr. Whyte standing near the entrance, hands in his pockets, waiting.
He caught my eyes and walked toward me.
“Before you go,” he pressed something into my hand. I looked down, unfolding my fingers to find a small pack of chocolate.
Frowning, I looked back up at him. “Is this a joke?”
He shook his head. “It’s wonder chocolate. Specially prescribed to improve your mood.”
I huffed a quiet laugh, shaking my head. “That’s not an actual medical term.”
“No, but it works,” he said lightly. “I know you're sad, Mrs Marshall. I noticed you kept looking at the door during your check-up. Like you were waiting for someone who never came.”
My stomach twisted. He wasn’t wrong.
“I just thought,” he continued, “maybe this would help a little.”
Something warm spread through me. Not attraction, not quite. Just appreciation for this doctor.
“Thank you,” I murmured.
Dr. Whyte nodded, then turned and walked down the hall. I smiled as I watched him go. I turned to leave, but the second I did, I stopped in my tracks.
Standing near the front desk was Blaine, and beside him was Eloise. My younger sister.
She was checking out at the desk. Her back was turned to me, but Blaine was staring right at me. His face was dark and his hands were fisted at his sides.
Then, in an instant, he was moving towards me.
I barely had time to react before he stormed up to me. He grabbed my wrist so hard that I gasped.
“Who the hell is he?!”
Hazel's POVI stormed into my room immediately. I didn’t stop or hesitate. Grabbing two very old duffel bags, I started to throw clothes into them, from shirts to pants and underwear, anything my hands touched. I wasn't paying any much attention to it.My fingers fumbled as I shoved in my essentials. My eyes were burning up with tears, but I managed to keep them at bay. This was not the time for weakness. I wouldn’t cry. Not in this house, at least. When I was done, I made my way downstairs again. I turned toward the front door and my fingers curled around the handle.“Hazel.”I glanced over my shoulder.Luna Astra walked closer to me. Then to my surprise, she opened her arms. I didn't waste a single moment; I let go of my bags and walked into her hug.She held me tightly and her warmth reminded me of something I hadn’t felt in years: A mother’s love. Not my own mother’s, but her. She held me like a mother would, offering all her support and love. Her voice dropped to a whisper. “Send
Hazel's POVI stared at the closet, my fingers gripping the edge of the door. From the dresses to the makeup, everything was identical to mine. This was very calculated and deliberate. She was trying to mimic my scent! It was the only thing that made sense. As werewolves scent meant everything. It was how mates bonded, how attraction worked. Blaine was my mate. Even if he despised me currently, he was naturally drawn to my scent. If Eloise had been wearing my perfumes, using my lotions and surrounding herself with my scent.... She wanted Blaine's wolf to mistake her for me.The door suddenly burst open. I flinched as Blaine stormed in with Eloise trailing behind him. His eyes landed on me, blazing with anger.“What the hell are you doing?” he snapped. “Going through someone else’s things?”I opened my mouth, but nothing came out.“It’s an invasion of privacy,” he continued. “Have you lost all sense of decency, Hazel? Is this how a Luna behaves?”I turned to Eloise. She stood behind hi
Hazel's POVThe next morning, I woke up to an empty bed.For a second, I thought maybe last night had been a dream. Maybe if I reached out, Blaine would still be there, lying beside me and breathing evenly in his sleep. But the sheets were cold. He was really gone.I stared at the empty space in front of me. Had he gone to her again? When I had left the hospital, Eloise had been coughing blood. Blaine must have gone back to her this morning.Of course he had. That was how it had always been.Eloise, the orphan girl people pitied, loved and protected. The girl my parents had taken in and raised as their own. She had gone from having nothing to living as a daughter of an Alpha. People adored her because she was cute. They treated her like a little sister, cherished her in ways I had never quite understood. At first, Blaine had been the same as the rest: kind, protective and treating her like any younger sibling. But then, slowly, things changed. The more time they spent together, the le
Hazel’s POV“He’s a doctor, Blaine.” My voice was shaky but I forced myself to look into his eyes. “He saved me from an accident earlier. That’s all.”Blaine growled; his eyes were starting to turn amber, and I knew that his wolf was just under the surface. Any minute now, and it would burst out.“Really? Just a doctor?” His eyes moved down to my hand. “And what’s this?”Before I could react, he yanked the chocolate from my grasp.“Blaine!”His name barely left my mouth before he flung the chocolate aside. It hit the wall and dropped to the floor.I gasped. “what has come over you?”His lips curled. “You tell me.”I stared at him. He wasn’t saying it outright, but I understood the accusation. He thought I was being unfaithful to him.I almost laughed in surprise. “You think I’m..." I shook my head, pressing a hand to my stomach. “Do you really believe I’d cheat on you? While carrying your children?”His silence was answer enough, and the answer made me sick to my stomach.“Blaine.”We

Hazel’s POVI had been pregnant for a few months.Months of carrying Blaine’s child. Months of doctor’s appointments, sleepless nights and being so terribly alone.I adjusted in the passenger seat as the WolfCare pack hospital came into view. The car slowed and my maid Mrs. Hale, let out a quiet sigh.“He should be here.” she muttered, mostly to herself. "The Alpha should be here with you."I said nothing. I didn’t have the energy to argue, not when she was right. Blaine should have been here. A good mate and a good father would have dropped everything else to be here with his pregnant wife.I sighed and reached out to Mae my wolf for comfort. But all she did was whine inside of me. I knew I was all alone in this. The car stopped and I stepped out, smoothing a hand over my stomach. It wasn’t much yet, just a slight swell, but I felt it in every part of me. The heaviness of this life growing inside me. The pain of knowing I was going through it alone. My phone rang, yanking me from my
