Eighty-five: Xander

“Still asleep?” Dinah asked me as I sat on the small couch in the room. Ayla fell unconscious after helping Keith out. She saved his life, but his injuries were terrible that healing them wore her out. I nodded at Dinah, then looked at my mate again.

For the first time in exactly twenty-nine days, my mate told me that she loved me. Well, she did say it on her birthday, but this one felt better because it was out of the blue. I thought that I would never hear those words from her again, but she said them. She brought me back to life just by saying these words.

“How’s Keith?” I looked at Dinah as I spoke.

“Stable and healing, thanks to Ayla.” Dinah’s mouth curled into a small smile as she said that. “She saved his life. She’s not stupid. She knew what was going to happen to her and that’s why she asked for the Juliet Rose water once she saw his state.”

“I didn’t know.”
