Sera's POV

I sat with my mother's words until the room grew dark around me. I had to get up and turn on the light. Then I sat with them a little longer. The stone stayed warm in my palm. The paper lay open on the bed beside me. I read the last line again.

A knock came at the door. I knew that knock.

"Come in," I said.

Riven stepped inside. He saw my face and did not ask what happened. He crossed the room and sat beside me on the bed. I held up the stone. It pulsed warm when I showed it to him.

  • The Alpha's Hidden Debts   CHAPTER 113: The Room Erupts

Riven's POVI was on my feet before the council member even finished saying the word “inadmissible.” The chair scraped loud behind me as I stood, every muscle tight from the moment he rose. My eyes locked on him, and the words came out flat. “I move to strike this testimony as procedurally inadmissible.”The room exploded.Gasps rippled through the benches. Whispers turned into shouts. Someone at the back slammed a fist on the wood. My father’s grip tightened on Sera’s elbow. Caden, who had come without being asked and was standing at the back of the chamber, lifted a hand like he was ready to step forward himself. The guards at Vael’s end straightened up, hands hovering near their belts. The eldest council woman stood too, her voice cutting through the noise like a whip. “Order! Order in the chamber! You will sit down and be silent until I say otherwise!”She looked like someone who had been calling rooms to order for forty years and was deeply unimpressed by this one. Her face was s

  • The Alpha's Hidden Debts   CHAPTER 112: The Hearing

Sera's POVThe letter from Elder Thorne still burned in my pocket like a live coal. I folded it once more, the message from the unknown council member screaming in my head: “There are people on this council who do not want her to finish speaking. Be ready.” I shoved it deeper, straightened my jacket, and stepped out of my room. Riven was waiting in the hallway, his hand already reaching for mine. Cael stood beside him, jaw set like he was ready for anything.“We’ve got this,” Riven said quietly, his voice low so only I could hear. “Whatever comes next, we face it together.”I nodded, but my throat felt tight. “I know. Let’s just get it over with.”The council chamber felt different from the first time we walked in here. Bigger. Fuller. Word had spread fast, whispers I caught in the hallways, the way the pack had packed every bench, the humans in the back row shifting nervously. The air smelled like old stone and nervous energy. My father walked at my other side, his arm brushing mine

  • The Alpha's Hidden Debts   CHAPTER 111: Preparing to Speak

Sera's POVThe letter from Elder Thorne sat on my desk like a live wire. I picked it up again, fingers tightening around the paper. “You are requested to address the council and pack at the sentencing hearing for Elder Vael Kane. The eldest council woman requests your presence as a final statement of closure.”Three evenings. That’s all I had to prepare. No rush, no pressure, just the quiet grind of writing what I needed to say until the words felt solid enough to stand in front of the whole pack and say them out loud. I had already run through every detail in my head, the attacks, the money, the nights I woke up shaking, the way Vael had looked at me like I was nothing. But turning those memories into sentences that everyone would hear, record, and carry back was the part that kept me awake.I went to Riven’s desk in the evening, the stone in my pocket cool against my leg. He was at the table when I walked in, papers spread out like he’d been working on something for the pack. I didn

  • The Alpha's Hidden Debts   CHAPTER 110: Asked to Speak

Sera's POVThe paper in my hands felt heavier than the stone tucked in my pocket. I kept staring at Elder Thorne’s note, the words blurring under the hallway light. “You are requested to address the council and pack at the sentencing hearing for Elder Vael Kane. The eldest council woman requests your presence as a final statement of closure.”I had read it three times already. Two days. That’s all the time they were giving me. No deadline, no pressure, just the quiet weight of knowing I would stand in front of every single person who mattered and say the things I had buried for years. The attacks. The money. The nights I woke up screaming. The way Vael had looked at me like I was nothing. But putting those words into sentences that everyone would hear, record, and carry back to the humans… that was the part that made my stomach twist.I walked the corridor to Mara’s room, my boots echoing softly on the stone floor. The stone tapped against my leg with every step, cold and real. When I

  • The Alpha's Hidden Debts   CHAPTER 109: What Dara Was

Riven's POVThe safe house appeared like a shadow in the trees, one dim light burning in the window. My heart was still racing from the drive, the note from Dara burning a hole in my pocket. I pushed the door open without knocking, the cold mountain air rushing in behind me. She was there, sitting at the kitchen table, exactly where Cael had said she’d be. No guards. No locks. Just her, staring at me like she’d been waiting my whole life.“Dara,” I said, my voice low but sharp. “You left the note. On the pillow. In the room.”She didn’t move at first. Just looked up at me, those silver eyes steady, the same ones that had watched me grow up in every meeting. “You came alone. I expected Riven and Cael too.”“They’re right outside,” I said. “But this is between us now.”She leaned back in the chair, folding her hands on the table. “Good. Sit. We have two days before the council investigators arrive. Might as well talk while we can.”I sat across from her, the stone from the box heavy in

  • The Alpha's Hidden Debts   CHAPTER 108: "Dara"

Riven's POVThe doors slammed shut behind Dara, and the enforcement officers’ boots echoed down the corridor like gunshots. I stayed glued to the table, fingers locked around Riven’s until my knuckles went white. The room was still buzzing with council members muttering, papers rustling but all I could hear was the blood pounding in my ears.“Riven,” I whispered, voice cracking, “she’s not just sitting there. She’s the one who gave me the stone. She’s the one who told me about the letter.”He didn’t answer right away. Just squeezed my hand harder, his thumb stroking once, like he was trying to steady me without saying a word. My brain kept replaying everything, the way Dara had smiled when Thorne slid that second set of records across the table. The way she’d called me “girl” like she’d known me my whole life. I couldn’t swallow it. Couldn’t believe it.Cael rubbed his temples. “Sera, breathe. Let it sit for a bit. You’re still processing the bombshell.”“No,” I said, standing up so f

Caden's PovThe bedroom was exactly as she'd left it.I stood in the doorway a long moment before going in. I had walked into this room a thousand times without thinking. Tonight I thought about it.Her side of the bed was made, smooth, untouched, the way it had been every morning for three years b

  • The Alpha's Hidden Debts   Chapter 5: Ironmoor's Property

Sera's PovMorning came in pale and quiet. I lay still for a moment, listening. No pack horn. No raised voices. Just the sound of someone moving around downstairs.I got up. My arm ached when I moved it wrong, but it held. I changed the bandage myself, careful with the wrapping, the way I'd learned

  • The Alpha's Hidden Debts   Chapter 4: Don't Make It Mean Something

Sera's Pov "You're awake."I opened my eyes. The voice came from the corner of the room. A woman sat there, older, somewhere in her sixties, grey hair pulled back, the kind of face that had seen enough of everything to stop being surprised by most of it. She had a cup of something warm in both han

  • The Alpha's Hidden Debts   Chapter 3: I'll Bite You

Riven’s PovThe radio crackled at half past eleven. I was at my desk working through the week's border patrol reports, a mug of coffee gone cold at my elbow. The lodge was quiet at this hour. Most of the pack had turned in and I preferred it that way. "Alpha." It was Cord, one of my north border m
