Malakar's POV.

Hope steps quietly onto the porch behind me. I have my back turned to her, my shoulders are rigid, and my fists are clenched at my sides. The tension radiating from me is almost palpable. She approaches slowly, reaching out to touch my arm.

"Malakar..." She says softly.

I flinch at the sound of her voice, then turn, eyes flashing - not in anger at her, but at everything else.

"I can't, Hope. Not right now. I need... I need to get away from her before I say something I can't take back."

Hope's eyes darken as she follows my gaze back to the infirmary where my father and Velara are still talking. About her secrets, no doubt. Her expression remains unreadable. She nods her understanding.

"Okay." She whispers. "I'll be here when you're ready."

Before either of us can say more, Talon, Dorian, and Morgana step outside to join us. They look worn, their clothing torn, streaked with blood. The battle has aged them all.

"We need to bring them home." I say in a low but firm voice.

  • The Alpha's Human Mate   Chapter 48.

Hope's POV.The room is dim, lit only by the soft glow of a single lamp next to the bed. The curtains are drawn to keep out the intruding daylight. I lie curled up on the bed, my hair still damp from the much-needed shower, my body wrapped in one of Malakar's shirts. His scent comforts me in a way that nothing else can. It calms me. Grounds me. The door opens quietly, then the sound of heavy footsteps before Malakar collapses next to me with a low, tired groan. I turn my head toward him, studying his face. There are dark circles under his eyes, and the ever-present tension in his strong jaw seems tighter than ever. He looks worn down to the bone."You okay?" I ask, brushing my fingers over the back of his head.He doesn't answer immediately. Instead, he stares up at the ceiling, exhaling through his nose. "This... this isn't what pack life is supposed to be like." He says finally, his voice quiet, almost guilty. "It's not supposed to be all blood and death and constant fighting. We're

  • The Alpha's Human Mate   Chapter 46.

Velara's POV.Many years ago.The moon hung low in the sky that night, its silver light slicing through the trees like a blade, casting shifting shadows along the forest floor. My paws pounded the earth as I tore through the woods in my wolf form, my breathing coming fast and wild. Leaves whipped at my flanks. Twigs snapped beneath my weight. My heart thundered in my chest - but not from my run. From rage. From defiance. From pain.Another fight with my father. Another reminder of my duty to the pack. Another speech about strength and submission and bloodlines. Another order to learn my place beside the male I was bound to - the future alpha of our pack. A dominant wolf with a steel jaw and even colder heart. A man who saw me not as a partner, but as a possession.I snarled and pushed myself faster, trying to outrun the helplessness clawing at my ribs. I wasn't meant for this. For leashes disguised as tradition. For a life spent kneeling beside a man who would never respect me. I want

  • The Alpha's Human Mate   Chapter 45.

Hope's POV.Velara stares at Malakar, her lips part as if to say something - but nothing comes out. Her face is composed, but her eyes betray her. A flicker of unease. A shadow of something deeper. Malakar steps closer, his eyes narrowing. "Don't lie to me, mother."She lifts her chin slightly. "I'm not lying. I was... surprised, that's all. Shocked to see him like that.""Surprised?" Malakar echoes, the word sharp and bitter. "You've seen worse. Dealt with worse. But the second Lucian gets dragged in, half-dead, you're suddenly offering to help? That's not just shock. That's something else."Velara folds her arms across her chest in a defensive motion. "I did what anyone would have done.""No." Malakar says, stepping even closer. "You didn't. You did what no one expected you to do." She opens her mouth to argue, but Malakar cuts her off. "You couldn't even look at him at first." He says, voice low. "Like you were seeing a ghost. Like it hurt. So tell me the truth - what is it about L

  • The Alpha's Human Mate   Chapter 44.

Hope's POV.The doors to the pack house burst open as Malakar charges inside, Lucian limp in his arms. I follow close behind him, my breath coming in sharp, panicked gasps as the scent of blood fills the air. Chaos meets us like a tidal wave. Warriors, young and old, are streaming in - some carried. others limping, bleeding, broken. Cries of pain echo through the halls. The floors are already slick with blood in some places, and the once-prestine medical area now looks like a war zone.My eyes dart from face to face. Torn flesh, shattered bones, deep gashes - are everywhere. My hands itch to help. My heart is pounding."We need space!" I shout. "Get the worst of them to the back room - anyone who can walk, help the ones who can't! I need towels, sutures, morphine - move!"Morgana and a few others jump into action, guiding wolves to makeshift beds and clearing tables for emergency care.Malakar lays Lucian gently onto the largest table. His skin is pale, his breathing shallow, blood st

  • The Alpha's Human Mate   Chapter 43.

Hope's POV.Lucian lies crumpled on the forest floor, already back to his human form, blood staining his bare chest and arms, his breaths shallow and ragged. I drop to my knees beside him after retrieving my medical bag. I tare it open with trembling fingers. His skin is slick with sweat and the veins near the gash are already turning black."Lucian." I whisper urgently, brushing damp hair from his forehead. His eyes flutter open. Unfocused but aware. "Stay with me. You hear me.""Hope..." He rasped."Don't talk." I order. My fingers smear with his blood as I examine the wound. My stomach drops. The poison is spreading. Fast. It has already eaten into the tissue around the gash and is blackening his side at an alarming rate. The toxin has entered his bloodstream. There isn't much time."Lucian." I say, snapping on gloves. "Your healing - can it regrow things like muscle? Bones?"He blinks, dazed. "What?""Flesh. Bone. Organs." I press. "Can your body regenerate them?"Lucian hesitates
