Nina Hayes POV.

“No.” I yelled in Kate's face.

Kate neared my pillow, she hooked her chin on my chest, breathing hot on my face while I scrolled my phone peacefully.

“But you can't say no to me.”

“And why not?”

“Because you're using my name for goodness sake. You're lying to Killian about Jace and me, you might as well pay me for it.”

I shoved Kate away gently, rounding up to sit straightened on my bed.

“And your payment is supposed to be me doing your homework?”

“Yes.”

The muscles on my forehead tightened. “No.”

“But you're smarter than me. You've always known things about…” her fingers twinkled as she pointed at the piles of excessive paper next to my nightstand. “...health and wellness. With you, I can ace this test and you know I really need this.”

Kate had a point. A solid one. As much as we hung out together and everyone thought we were nerds, Kate wasn't.

Kate loved art. The music and novelty part of it. She wasn't book smart. Especially not during exams or tests.

I'd spotted Jace in the ring, and Derek coming from a distance. The day would have been longer if I'd stayed back there. "Mad at me? She smiled, agreed to catch up with me, and now she's suddenly cold?" Leaning on my door, I replied to him. Actually, chatting with someone in a lower rank shouldn't happen, but this was a desperate moment.
