Chapter 1

Wyatt.

The forest was silent. Some guards and I were taking a routine walk. The night before, it had rained and the forest was cold. Our paws were buried in the mud and our fur kept us warm. It very rarely rains in summer, but when it does, the wind blows strongly, water from the lagoon spills onto the shore, and the people in the pack get nervous.

“The best is slow in coming,” Wren said in my head. He is my wolf. He is the one that allows me to transform and the one that makes me different from humans, because if it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t be a werewolf and none of this would exist.

“Alpha.” My beta ducked his head and glanced at his wife who was approaching us at a fast pace in her human form.

“You can go, Nico.”

He raised his head and ran to meet his life partner. Hiraya is his mate and the one to blame for Nico’s always being over the moon or drooling with his tongue hanging out.

“Alpha.” Hiraya came closer and smiled at me. Automatically, all the guards looked away at the growl that my beta gave them.

She was going to speak again, but I threw myself on her body before she could utter a word.

“Wyatt, what are you doing?” I ignored my beta’s growl and focused on the wolf that was staring at me, scared.

“That scent is ours.” My wolf was desperate, and I couldn’t think clearly.

“Wyatt,” Nico insisted, and I reluctantly walked away.

I filled my lungs with as much clean air as I could, and once that rich aroma was far away, I could finally think with some clarity.

“Whose scent is that? Hiraya, who were you with? That scent belongs to her… it belongs to us.” As I began to walk from one side to the other, the scent, although I could no longer smell it, was still in me. It hit me hard, stunning me and driving me crazy.

“It belongs to our mate. We found it! “ Wren was so happy that he didn’t notice anything.

We hadn’t found her, Hiraya had, and she still hadn’t told me where my she-wolf was.

“Hiraya, whose scent is that?” I insisted. I was getting desperate.

She got up and patted the head of her mate, who was still on the defensive.

“Hiraya.” I insisted, but she was still trying to calm her mate down.

“Nico, that’s enough!” He lowered his head at my order, and I heard him sigh.

“Sorry, Alpha,” he murmured.

Hiraya paid attention to me and smiled at me. Everyone already knew what was happening; you didn’t have to be a genius to figure it out.

“They found her in the woods, were caring for her right now, and she’s in the pack—”

I didn’t wait for her to finish and began running. I couldn’t keep waiting any longer. I felt like my life relied on this encounter, but when I arrived at the pack, she was gone. She’d gotten away when no one was looking, and I’d lost my mate without even knowing who she was.

….

I was browsing through some files when my beta came dashing up, his paws all over the carpet, and he didn’t even say hello.

“You must come, there is a she-wolf in the forest and she is alone.” When he told me that, my body came back to life.

I transformed into a wolf and started racing towards the woodland. I needed her like I needed the air I breathed. My mate is so vital to me that in the days since she left, I’ve felt dead, unable to do anything but obliged to. Well, I’m an Alpha, and my pack always comes first.

I ran and ran. My men followed me like they always did, but they couldn’t keep up with my speed.

If it was her, we couldn’t risk losing her again.

“Mate!” My wolf warned me, screaming and howling in my head.

I increased the pace. Now it was definitive; I was not going to lose her anymore.

Before she could flee again, I arrived and leaped on her, hurling myself like a hunter but without intending to murder my prey. All I needed was her affection and to replace the hole into which I had been born and lived all this time.

“Finally, I found you,” I spoke to her in her head, and it felt very different from speaking to anyone else; I felt at peace, and each word felt like saying “I love you” without saying it.

I studied her from top to bottom without missing anything. She is much smaller than I am. She even looks like a puppy. I licked her ears and became human. I couldn’t take it anymore. I wanted and needed to see who my life partner was.

She was frightened, did the same, and covered her eyes so she wouldn’t see me.

“You’re naked!” She wasn’t the only one perplexed. When I saw her, I got a big surprise.

This could not be. The goddess must have been playing, or maybe she only sent me half because the person below me is a girl who must be around 18 years old.

I couldn’t think of anything else to say. Children were not my specialty, and I wanted a woman, not a little one.

She transformed into a wolf. She escaped, passing between my legs, taking advantage of her small size, and started to run away from me, but I was faster. I chased her and jumped on her again, placing my legs in such a way that she could not escape again.

“Stop running away, you’re mine,” I told her, and she became human again, leaving her small naked body in full view of everyone and beginning to cry.

I changed form to human and took her in my arms. Her touch burned me like nothing had ever done, and I tried to protect her from the cold in my arms, but she wouldn’t stop stirring.

“Please don’t do anything to me. I’ve heard about you and I know what you’re doing. I’m going to accuse you!” she said, crying more, and I looked into her eyes.

I have no idea what she’s heard, but whatever it is, she’s going to be safe.

“If you stay with me, I’ll protect you.” I tried to be kind but shook her head without stopping moving to let go and go again.

“Leave me, I like living here.” I looked around me.

The trees allowed only a few rays of light to hit the ground. The humidity is everywhere. Anyone would catch a cold after a few days stuck here. That is, if they don’t come across a bear or any of the many animals that can harm them. Who in their right mind would leave a girl alone in this wet place full of predators and dangers?

I walked with her in my arms to where my men were. There was no chance that I would leave her here.

My guards gave me clothes and I got dressed so my little wolf wouldn’t have to see me naked. Even though she’s my mate, she’s also just a girl and it wouldn’t be right for her to see me or anyone else this way.

“Mark her!” said my wolf Wren, the desperate one.

“Forget it.” I kept walking with my guards following me a short distance as I accommodated my wolf in my arms so that she wouldn’t be cold and we could get to my house as soon as possible.

“Please don’t,” she said, crying more and more. Her crying broke my heart. I tried to calm her with a rose that I took from a bush, but she threw it and stuck out her tongue at me.

This is going to be difficult. It definitely will be.
