2 - Sent home

Melody POV 

The woman stares at me and her eyes change color or is it the light, before she speaks, “uhm, why are they all running in there and why did you pull me out?”  I turned as a growl erupted, shaking all the closed doors.

I sighed, “your Alpha, his monitors, when I walked in were going through the roof, that’s not normal, he was going to have a heart attack, if the RESUS team hadn’t gotten there in time.” I smiled, “come on, you can sit and wait, I’m sure he’ll be fine in a bit.”

She giggled under her breath, “you believe what your saying don’t you, there’s nothing wrong with his heart, didn’t you just hear him growl, he’s fine, pissed off now, but fine.” 

My eye’s widened a bit to her and darted to the door as it flung open, and the RESUS team came out glaring at me.  “My name is Clair, and your team seems a bit pissed too,” she arches her brow at me, “are you going to be, okay?”

I shook my head, “I’m Melody, yea I’ll be fine, I’m sure Dr, Fabian will be happy to give me a little ass chewing over this, but nothing I can’t handle,” I shrugged. 

Before I could say another word, Dr. Fabian stepped out, “Mel, follow me, office now.”

I bit my lower lip and spun, following him down the hall, Clair called out, “sorry Melody.”  I almost chuckled, why is she sorry, she’s not the one that forgot fucking werewolves 101, their practically indestructible, self-healing and fucking perfect creations.  

I shut the door behind me and stood with my back to it, “Dr. Fabian, I apologize, I guess I just forgot about the whole werewolves can heal like GODS thing.” 

He glared at me, “That’s not funny Melody, curb your jokes huh, that is my Alpha in there that you just single handedly made a joke of, he is not amused and neither am I, you’re relieved of your duties until we investigate what the hell happened to the equipment in that room.”

My brows furrowed, “Wait, WHAT?  I’m being sent home because of technical malfunctions of the monitors, and you think that’s fair?  I only did what I was trained to do when the monitors do that and now, I’m being sent home, like I did something wrong.”  My hands flew into the air, “okay, so I forgot about the werewolf higher on the healing scale than us mere mortals, but to send me home really Dr. Fabian, isn’t that excessive, why was he even hooked up to them when they’re not even necessary.”

He shook his head, “it still stands, what you did to the Alpha he…”

I cut him off, “WAIT, this has to do with me trying to save his fucking ass from having a heart attack on my watch and he is what embarrassed because why, WHY?  Because I made a judgement call, hit the CODE button, then I’ll apologize for doing MY FUCKING JOB!”

Dr. Fabian stood and walked towards me, and I moved from the door, opening it and moving out it, “not a problem, I’ll leave,” I don’t want him touching me as if he’s consoling me, we both know he wants to get handsy with me in a sexual way.  I walked back to my COW and grabbed my drink and sweater.  The woman was standing outside Room 1 and the door was opening, I nodded to her, “see ya Clair,” I turned and walked with meaningful purpose down the back hallway to the lounge.  To say I was fuming is an understatement, livid is more like it, I could literally hear the blood rushing in my ears as I gathered my belongings from the lounge and barreled through the back door leading to the staff parking lot.  I was so busy cursing out their stupid Alpha under my breath, that I didn’t notice the stretch limousine parked and running on the side of me.  I walked by whisper shouting to myself, “the asshat doesn’t have enough manners to thank a person for trying to save his arrogant, self-centered, egotistical life anyway…”

“You sound as if your upset about something,” a deep baritone voice spoke from beside me, making me jump and clutch my bag to my chest as I spun staring at a cracked window of the back of the limousine.”

I arched a brow, “yea, well sorry you heard any of that, I’m usually more professional, have a good night,” I went to walk off when the driver’s door opened, and a large man stepped out. 

He nodded, “My boss asks if you’d like a ride to your car?”

I laughed, “no, I’m good, the day I can’t walk 10 feet, is the day they can nail the lid closed on my coffin, thank whoever is hiding in your backseat though for me.”  I spun and walked briskly to my car, not wanting anything more to do with whatever species is in the back of the limousine.  I blew out a breath when I was safely in my driver’s seat.  Not many things give me that foreboding feeling but whoever was in that backseat, just sent shivers throughout my entire body, a foreign feeling for me, one I’m not fond of. 

I woke up the next morning still livid over what had happened last night and not caring if I ever went back to that hospital, I did nothing wrong, I did what I was trained to do when the monitor’s act that way.  I opened my laptop and started hunting for a new job, I’m a nurse I can get a job easily enough.  I filled out a few on line applications and then decided eating a gallon of chocolate chip ice cream was all I could do at this point.  Yes, I’m now in the self-pity stage of my anger, so I’m going for it.  I turned on the TV and tucked myself into a soft blanket and watched every season of some Italian gangster series on cable.
