Morning came with golden sunlight streaming through the window.

I woke slowly, my body protesting movement but my mind clearer than it had been in months. The medication had helped. So had sleep. So had knowing Kael had stayed outside my door all night.

I could still feel him through the bond—awake, alert, and protective even at a distance.
