Lucien’s pov

I went into the wedding hall to see people still celebrating, all congratulating Celeste.

Without saying anything, I walked to the opposite side of the hall, where the bar was filled with a couple of drunkards, who looked at me and bowed before congratulating me.

“You did well, my prince,” one of them belched. “You have done a great service to your father and the pack at large.”

I could only smile and nod before turning to the bartender.

“Whiskey, neat.”

“Are you sure you're suppos

Lucien’s povThat night, I dressed up for my coronation and while I did so, my father walked in with a smile on his face.“Oh there’s my boy,” he laughed, waving the maids in the room away. “You look just like an alpha.”I kept silent, thinking of what Gideon had said to me earlier.“Is something bothering you? Because if you have questions about the coronation, I’m here to answer them all.”I stared at him for what seemed like minutes before shaking my head.“There’s no question.”He chuckled before looking around the room. “Where’s your wife?”“She’s with her father.”I tugged at my collar to pull it up before laying it down and staring at my reflection.“I called the number on the release file you gave me,” I muttered which had him looking at me. “It didn’t go through.”He shrugged like I was talking about a bad network.“Maybe they weren’t close to their phones.”“I also sent someone to check out the location,” I scoffed, facing him fully now. “There’s nothing there.”“What’s your

I need to have a wonderful time alone.”He looked around to make sure no one was eavesdropping, then leaned close to me.“What was that all about on the altar?”I raised a brow. “Gideon, it's my weddi

Lucien’s povI walked swiftly down the long, dimly lit hallway toward the pack mansion's east wing. My breathing was ragged, and I slammed my palm against the cool stone wall to steady myself. My chest was throbbing with a dull, persistent pain. I hated this. I hated every single second of it.I couldn't bring myself to love her. No matter how regal she was, no matter how much power she brought to the pack, my heart refused to open for the woman my father had chosen for me. It was already dead, buried somewhere in a little house where a human girl and a small boy slept.I stopped in front of the heavy oak doors of the Alpha's office. I didn't bother knocking. I pushed the doors open and walked inside. My father was standing by the large glass window overlooking the courtyard, a glass of dark amber liquor held in his hand. He turned around slowly, a smirk playing on his lips as he saw me enter."Ah, the newly married man," my father said, walking over to his massive wooden desk. "You p

Lucien’s povThe week ran by and soon it was my wedding day.The ceremonial grand hall was packed to the brim with royals, elders, and delegates from neighboring packs. The scent of sweet honeysuckle and burning oak drifted through the air, mixing with the heavy scent of wolf bloodlines. Today, Crescent Fang and Ravencrest were joining as one, but to me, the decorations and golden banners felt like nothing more than velvet chains.I stood at the foot of the sacred dais, dressed in the heavy, dark ceremonial robes of the heir apparent. My chest felt empty. Every instinct in my body was screaming at me to walk away, to run far from this place, but I couldn't. I had to do this for Mary. I had to pay my father's price to set my stepmother free. The heavy wooden doors at the back of the hall creaked open, and the crowd gasped in hushed awe.I slowly turned my head. Celeste stepped into the grand hall, dressed in a sweeping ivory gown lined with crushed silver. She looked radiant, every bit

Lucien’s pov“And I don't want to see that girl around here again, so make sure you take care of her,” Celeste said to a maid while pointing at a maid she had insulted earlier.“Yes, ma'am,” the maid said before walking out, as I looked at Celeste, who had a certain kind of look on her face. She was eyeing the maid who had pissed her off from head to toe while the maid walked away.I took in deep breaths, then smiled at her. “Is anything the problem?”She scoffed. “No, everything is perfectly fine. It's just these maids. I feel like they've been relaxing a bit too much. You know, there have been no wars, everything has been calm, and because of that, they have lost sight of what is important. When I become Luna, I am going to put everybody on their toes.”I sat on an armchair before folding my arms and watching her. She noticed I was looking at her as she turned to me, then gave me a warm smile.“What?”“Nothing,” I shook my head. “I… was not expecting you to be this fierce.”She scof

Lucien’s pov“Where were you last night?” My father asked the moment the last of the elders had gone out of the throne room.I looked around to notice it was just the two of us in the hall.“I went out for a drink.”He scoffed. “Funny how I invited you for a drink with Magnus and you chickened out. What's going on with you?”“Nothing,” I quickly answered, going through the folders in my hands as I raised them. “I'll give this to Gideon. He will go through it and…”He raised his hand to stop me from talking further. “Keep the files. Let's talk. Just you and me, son and father.”That was the first time I was hearing it, and it felt weird.“Sure,” I said, dropping the file on the table beside me. “What do you want to talk about?”“I want to talk about your marriage to Celeste.”“What about it?”“For starters, I've been seeing the divide between you and her. Not only me, but her father has also complained about it. Celeste has also complained about it. I want to know what's going on betwe
