Alex’s pov:

Even though I was shaken up, and looking anxiously at the damned red circle every few seconds, I knew what needed to be done, and I had to act quickly.

Jade appeared to be peacefully asleep to any onlooker, but not only did I trust Paulina’s assessment, but I also could tell that her heartbeat was growing weaker.

“You’re not leaving me,” I mumbled, more to myself than anyone else, but that had the knack to make my parents look at me.

Paulina told me I needed to give blood to my beloved Jade, and Anna had told me that I needed to kiss her. And it was therefore with no hesitation whatsoever that I let my beastly fangs protrude, to my parents’ horror.

“What’s going on?” My dad rose to his feet, seemingly ready to intervene.

Thankfully, Luc handled him well, and said simply, “Let’s trust Alpha Xander.”

The looks mom was sending me were of abject worry. Lucille’s eyes, however, were tender and trusting. She even nodded at me for some reason.

    Jade’s pov: Only 1 week remained till the fateful date. Indeed, it had been 2 weeks since Anna announced that the King would be coming. And while we expected it to be a troublesome matter, we had trustworthy allies. Sherry and Kade sent over a dozen warriors to help out, with training first and foremost, but also to ensure no one would be hurt if possible.     Jade’s pov: A week passed since I resumed training as any dedicated warrior would. The mornings were dedicated to wolf training. On most afternoons, however, I trained as a witch, under Paulina’s guidance. Indeed, she might call me mistress, but I was still a real damn novice at this. She gave me a grimoire to look into, and I often found myself studying it.I was curious, sure, but I also wanted to be able to use my powers without overexerting myself. She told me all about exhaustion’s tell-tale signs. The issue was different although I tried to not say it out loud.     Jade’s pov: Upon reaching the pack house, I sought mom out at once, knocking on the door ever so slightly. I soon found her feeding Tyler the bottle. “Looks like someone’s missed you, darling,” she cooed softly, before lifting her gaze up and greeting me with a smile, “Hey, sweetheart.” “Hey, mom,” I hugged her and hugged my little boy in the process.     Jade’s pov: Coming to the feeling of sweet pleasurable tingling making me feel alive, I opened my eyes groggily. I was no train wreck but I didn’t exactly feel okay either. I felt drained, and lifting up a hand felt like a real chore. Alex was tracing patterns with his thumb across the back of my right hand, and I reveled in the feeling. “Slept well, love?” He asked, a hint of teasing in his voice, though his concern was obvious. I let out a noncommittal Hmm in the back of my throat. “Is that a yes?” He chuckled, and didn’t even wince as he did so, even though I knew was injured. “Where am I?” I didn’t recognize the ceiling or the room where I was. “We’re still in Kade’s pack, love,” he supplied with a small smile which was no doubt meant to comfort me. “You needed the rest.” “And you needed treatment,” I nodded at him, agreeing at once, before voicing out my concern. “Are you okay, or at least better, honey?” “Of course, love,” he nodded, reassuring me with his words, with

    Alex’s pov: Jade was calm and her voice was even as she gave orders. She was truly magnificent, and in the back of my mind, as I fought off rogues, I was proud to call her mine. “Stay here,” she breathed out after a beat, just as I finished off the last of the 12 rogues. “The patrollers are dead anyways. Just let the attackers come to you. Don’t chase them out where they have the upper hand, where the smell of blood could confuse you. Here, you are organized. Here, you can see them. We can do this.
