Magnus POV

I raised the glass of wine to my lips, the deep red liquid swirling like a whirlpool of blood. My gaze fell upon the roaring fire, and I saw his face in the flickering flames: Kieran. My half-brother. The precious heir. The one who had everything that was mine by right.

Whenever I remembered how that old bastard that called himself our father had cast out my mother and me for Kieran and his mother's sake, I went down to the dungeon to take my frustration out on his precious mate.

I’d just returned from there minutes ago, but even beating his mother no longer gave me the satisfaction it once did. I should have killed her a long time ago, but holding her captive is what is giving me the upper hand against Kieran. I can't let him win twice.

Not after he took Elara from me. The thought of her name sent a jolt of pure, possessive energy through my veins. I had seen her grow up, watched her from the shadows, and felt a pull, a primal need that was unlike anything I had ever exp

Elara’s POVThe bathroom was warm within seconds, steam curling through the air. Kieran stepped in behind me without hesitation, his hands steady as he guided me under the spray. I didn’t realize I was shaking until he pressed his chest to my back, the heat of him anchoring me against the heat that had seeped into my bones. The hot water stung at first, then sank deep, washing away the cold and the last fragments of the forest. His fingers moved slowly as he worked the soap over my shoulders and down my arms. The tension in my muscles fought him at first, but the more he touched me, the more my body remembered it was allowed to cry.“You don’t have to do this,” I said softly. He didn't answer, he just kept washing me. My throat tightened at the action, and I let my head fall back against him, letting him wash the grief from my skin as if it could be erased away. His hands were gentle but thorough, sliding through my hair, massaging the shampoo into my scalp with slow, grounding motion

Elara's POV “We have bad news, Alpha,” Ronan said.I was in front of him before the sentence ended, pulse thrumming. “What happened? He won't agree to join the war? He hates me that much?” I asked, but those weren't the answers I feared.Nyx was already snarling inside me, pacing like a caged beast. She was also feeling the same way."The Mooncrest Pack… it was…” Ronan started.“Was what?” I snapped, my voice slicing through the air like a blade, unable to handle the suspense any longer. Nyx roared, “Talk. Dammit.”“It was empty when we got there,” he said before lowering his eyes.My breath caught. The words didn't make sense.Empty?I staggered back a step before Kieran's hand shot out to steady me. I didn’t realize I’d stopped breathing until he pressed his palm against my lower back.“Moya!”Nyx froze. I could feel her go still.Empty.My childhood home. My people. My father?Gone?Ronan continued, his voice gruff but respectful. "The houses were ransacked. The main packhouse wa

Elara's POVFor the past three days, I’ve bled, bruised, and crushed every muscle in my body. I had expected Kieran to push me, but I didn’t expect him to treat me like one of his warriors. There was no leniency in his movements. No softness in his gaze. He wasn’t training me like a mate he wanted to protect, instead he was training me like a soldier he expected to survive. And I couldn’t lie… I sort of needed that. I haven't fought in a war or even had any real fight except that night fifteen years ago. I was just a child then, but now, as the Luna of Blackwood Pack, I need to be strong and be able to protect my pack members.Still, it didn’t make today’s bruised ribs any easier to breathe through.“Again,” Kieran barked. My lungs screamed, and my legs trembled. We've been training since morning. He stood across from me in the clearing behind the pack house, shirtless, barefoot, and already drenched in sweat despite the morning chill. His movements were precise, like controlled viole

Kieran’s POVIn no time, the council chamber was full. The long oak table stretched down the centre of the room, now surrounded on all sides by seasoned warriors, guards, and elders—everyone who still had a stake in this war. The younger warriors stood behind them, their hands resting on the hilts of their swords. The question was, were we ready for the war that was coming?Tobias stood to my right, jaw tight with his arms crossed. On my left, Elara and Saffron were both composed and alert, their presence grounding me more than I wanted to admit.I cleared my throat, the sound echoing in the sudden silence. Everyone turned their full attention toward me. "We are here to discuss our next course of action," I began, my voice steady despite the tremor in my gut. "Lilith has escaped.”Gasps and curses rippled across the room.“She escaped the dungeons an hour ago,” I continued, voice hard. “She killed one of our own, Nick, and escaped through a tunnel I didn’t even know existed, and I don

Kieran’s POV“Kieran, are you alright?” Elara’s voice was soft and careful. She always knew how to cut through the noise in my head. We’d just crossed into the foyer of the pack house, but I stopped and turned to face her. My hands stayed locked on her waist. I couldn’t let go. She was the only thing tethering me to sanity right now.“I just…” My voice cracked before I could finish. I hated that. I exhaled, dragging a hand through my hair. “I’m so tired of her. Using my mother, using that pup…” My vision got darker at the thought. “I swear, Moya… I want to tear her apart.”“I know,” she said gently. “I want that too, but we need to keep her alive for now so we can find your mother.”That word, ‘Mother', burned in my chest like a fresh wound. Every time it was spoken aloud, it reopened the gaping ache I’d been trying to bury for years. I miss her. I miss her so much. I don't even know how she's doing…Ugh….I clenched my jaw. If Lilith and Elara were telling the truth, and that was a b
