Kieran's POV

My eyes were locked on the phone on the kitchen island, the screen was showing Tobias’ name. He wasn’t supposed to call me. Not unless it was bad, like really bad, and he knew that, so why was he calling me today, the same day I just left?

Did Magnus come?

I picked it up slowly. Fenrir had already started pacing in my head, sensing danger.

“Who is it?” Elara asked.

I looked up at her, “It’s Tobias. I told him not to call me unless it was very serious.”

Her face stiffened, “Answer.”

I didn’t want to. Every instinct in me was already screaming, and I was already scared about what news he would relay. Fenrir also pacing nonstop in my head didn’t help matters.

I pressed the phone to my ear, and before I could say a word, Tobias’ voice came through so sharply.

“Why didn’t you answer your phone?” he snapped. The sharpness in his tone immediately made my pulse spike. Tobias never lost composure unless things were about to burn, but before I could answer, his voice came through

Kieran's POV“Saffron is with my mother.”My brain short-circuited. I must be dreaming at this point because there's no way, in reality, he just said what I think he said. Everything was happening too fast, and I felt like I was losing touch with reality. My mind kept looping that sentence, trying to make sense of it: Saffron is with my mother. That couldn’t be real.I don't know how long I stood there, frozen, until Tobias shook my shoulders.“Kieran. Kieran, snap out of it,” he said under his breath, trying to keep his voice low.My lips parted before the words even fully formed in my mind. “What… what do you mean?” I asked after I finally found my voice. “Saffron? My sister? With your mom?” My voice rose with each question until I was almost shouting.“Shhhh,” Tobias hissed, quickly covering my mouth. “We can't trust anyone at this moment. Not with Lilith in the pack.”That name made my blood boil. I swatted his hand away and stepped back, trying to rein in the anger rising in my c

Kieran's POV “Where's Tobias?”“I'm here,” he answered, running up to us, breathless, sweat glistening on his forehead. He looked like he'd sprinted across the entire territory.I opened my mouth to question him, but his voice slid into my head through our link: “I'll tell you later. Not now, it's dangerous.”My jaw locked as I gave him a hard stare, and he just nodded, silently reinforcing the message."Do the elders know about this yet?" I asked, keeping my voice even."Not yet. I was waiting for you to return before telling them.” He answered.Lilith stirred then and groaned while trying to sit up. When she saw me, her eyes widened and she cried out, “Kieran!”I didn’t move. I just stared at her. Fenrir was already on the verge of shifting. And I was very tempted to give him the reins.“Kieran… Kieran, I'm so sorry, please forgive me, help me,” she sobbed. “I regret hurting you back then. I’ve regretted every single day since that night. I…”“She said he was locked up by Magnus,”

Tobias' POV I made it to the pack gate in under five minutes. Alex and the other warriors were already gathered, there was tension all over them. The air suddenly felt wrong, like something was about to go sideways. What the hell was going on? And why now, when Kieran had just left for his break? I hoped whatever happened wasn’t bad enough to call him back.“What’s going on?” I asked, walking up to them.Alex didn’t say a word. He just jerked his chin at something behind himI followed his gaze and stopped cold. A woman was lying there, on her side. She was barely moving and she had dirt and blood all over her, even her clothes were torn. Who was she, and who did this to her?I immediately ran closer to her, and reached out gently to shake her shoulder. “Hello? Can you hear me?”She groaned, shifting slightly as she turned her face toward me–I froze.Lilith.No way. This must be a dream. There is no way Lilith would have the guts to come back to Blackwood Pack, not after everythin

Tobias' POV My alarm rang, waking me up, and I realised I had fallen asleep on the chair. Saffron was still asleep. She was curled up on the couch like she hadn’t slept well in weeks. She looked peaceful now. No twitching or whimpering. Guess the bad dreams have stopped. I didn’t mean to stare, but something about how she slept held me there longer than I intended.I finally forced myself to look away, and I checked my phone and realised that three hours had passed since I came to the cabin. I needed to get back before anyone needed Kieran. I grabbed a sticky note from the centre table and wrote: –I'm going to the packhouse to attend to some things. There's food in the refrigerator, you can eat. I’ll bring back a change of clothes. Please don’t leave, and don’t open the door for anyone but me. —Tobias.I glanced at her one last time, brushed a bit of red hair off her face. Damn, I’m turning into Kieran, and Orion, my wolf, growled in satisfaction.I slipped out quietly.I headed for

Elara’s POVAnd… we made love. Hehe. Afterwards, we showered together and later, I ended up standing in front of two large bags, dripping wet, hair still wrapped in a towel, staring at the ridiculous selection of clothes Mira packed for me.By clothes, I mean lingerie and see-through nighties. I gave up and ended up wearing Kieran's shirt. It hung loose around me, smelling like him.“Ouh, I love Mira more and more,” Nyx purred in my head. “For a middle-aged woman, she’s got taste.”“Go away.” I shooed her.“At least you ended up wearing his shirt. Nice plan, Mira.” Nyx cheered on.I rolled my eyes. I’m sure this was all Astrid’s idea, and I’ll need to have a word with her when I get back.“You searched all those bags and still ended up in my shirt?” Kieran asked with a grin from the couch in the corner, where he sat waiting for me to dress up.“Not my fault, Mira didn’t pack anything wearable apart from the outfit I had on earlier and a dress to wear when going back,” I replied throu

Elara’s POV We left Blackwood Pack after saying our goodbyes to everyone, even Mira started crying. I was going to miss them too but we’ll be gone for only a week. Kieran drove us out onto a quiet road with the forest stretched out on both sides of the road, their leaves were thick and green. I leaned against the window, watching the forest. It looked different today. It was calmer and not as intimidating as the first day he brought me here.Kieran noticed how confused I looked, “What’s the matter?” he asked in that deep voice that messed with my head at times.“Is it always this calm?” I asked through our link, squinting at the trees closing in from both sides before turning to look at him.Kieran chuckled, “true, you weren’t really looking at the road when I first brought you here.” He laughed again.I turned away from him and made a face at the window, “that’s not my fault, I wasn’t in my right mind considering the fact that I just got married without my consent.”“I understand,

  • The Alpha's Quiet Mate    Chapter Twenty-Six

Tobias’ POVKieran and Elara left today for their honeymoon. Finally, I’d been waiting to see Kieran laugh without faking it again, and now that he’s gone all heart-eyes and handsy with Elara, he’s starting to look like the guy he used to be. Ten years ago, before life wrecked him. Cheerful. Open. Alive. And with Magnus out of the picture, for now, he can finally breathe. While they’re off sipping something fruity under the sun, I’m in charge of the pack. That part’s easy. First order of business: border patrol. Keeping the border secure is muscle memory at this point. I took the southern route, my usual routine, except nothing about this morning felt routine. About a quarter mile into the forest, I caught the scent.Her.Again.The white wolf.I slowed down, kept low, and moved silently. My instincts were flaring, but not in warning. My wolf, Orion, was already halfway to the surface, pacing like a caged animal. There she was, same sleek fur, same calculated gaze, tracking something

Elara's POV “Hi, Luna,” Mira greeted me with a warm smile as I entered the kitchen later that evening. I needed fuel.I waved back in response. She served a plate to me and sat down beside me with a serious face. Given the seriousness, I pulled out my phone and typed, –What's wrong? Why the serious face?--“The Alpha mentioned you're leaving for your honeymoon tomorrow.”–Is that what's wrong? Don't you want me to go?-- I typed, holding up my phone. She has always wanted the best for me so I don't understand why she was sad now.“No, no, I'm very happy Luna. I'm happy he's treating you better now. I just got worried about your marks. I recognize them.”-you do?-“Yes, it was female wolves chosen by the moon goddess that bore the mark. The mark is meant to give them extra strength to match their Alpha mate and I'm sure you noticed it today when you were fighting with the warriors.”–is it dangerous?-- I asked.“Not if controlled properly. You mustn't let the power control you, instead
