Rae’s POV

Zeus’s voice cut through the tension like a blade through rope.

“Bikers,” he said simply. “We have to move now.”

Zeus echoed it from the other side of the tent and people started moving without further discussion. That was something I was learning about this pack… when the right person said the right thing in the right tone, things happened fast.

Rae’s POVZeus’s voice cut through the tension like a blade through rope.“Bikers,” he said simply. “We have to move now.”Zeus echoed it from the other side of the tent and people started moving without further discussion. That was something I was learning about this pack… when the right person said the right thing in the right tone, things happened fast.I got on behind Killian and we pulled out in formation. The ride back was quicker than when we were leaving first, the way return journeys always seem to be. The compound lights came up through the trees and we rolled into the garage one after another, engines cutting out in sequence, the sudden quiet after all that noise landing like something physical.Selene was off her bike before it had fully stopped. She pulled her helmet off and walked straight toward the interior door, muttering something under her breath that I only caught half of. The half I caught was not flattering.Asher watched her go and pressed his lips together. Zeu

Rae’s POVHe told me what Zeus had said and I set the bread down.“We need to go,” I said immediately. “If the bodies haven’t been moved yet, there could be something on them. A trace, mark or, something that tells us who did this and how.”“Selene will handle the forensics,” he said.“Selene is good,” I said. “But two sets of eyes are better than one, especially tonight.”He looked at me for a moment. I could see him weighing it… my freshly recovered state against the reality that I had just told him few minutes ago that I was ready to work.“Finish your food first,” he said.I wanted to argue but I looked at the tray, and looked at him, and decided that particular battle wasn’t worth the energy. I finished what was on the plate in silence and stood up before he could say anything else.We took his bike. The eastern border was a twenty-minute ride through the outer territory roads, the kind of route that had no streetlights and relied on the riders knowing where they were going. Kill

Killian’s POVAsher was at my elbow before I’d made it ten steps down the corridor.“We kept the boy safe at the main building, for the night,” he said, matching my pace. “At least forty-eight hours of monitoring before we consider moving him back to his mother’s house. I’ve already told Maya.”“Good,” I said.“You heard me, right?”“I heard you,” I said.He looked at me sideways. “Alpha, you sound like your mind isn’t here”He wasn’t wrong. My feet were moving through the compound but my head was somewhere else entirely… back in that corridor, watching Rae’s face close down the way it did when she was feeling something she had decided I wasn’t going to see. That particular stillness she put on like armor.I had put it there. She had asked a simple question. Not a threat, a demand, or an accusation. Just a question from a woman trying to understand the world she had landed in. And I had looked at her like she’d said something unforgivable and told her to get out.I ran a hand over my

Rae’s POVI was heading to the garage when the commotion started. It wasn’t a gradual thing, it arrived all at once, like it was an emergency. The sound of engines coming in too fast, voices rising from the far end of the compound, movement that had the particular sharp quality of people responding to something that had already gone wrong.Killian came in at full speed.I saw him dismount before the bike had fully stopped and that alone told me everything I needed to know about how serious it was. Asher and Zeus came in right behind him, and between them, cradled against Asher’s chest, was a small boy of about seven or eight, unconscious and pale in a way that made my stomach drop immediately.Selene and Liah were already walking towards them.I followed without being asked. They took the boy to the medical room off the east corridor. Maya appeared within minutes carrying her medical bag, moving with that particular focused calm she had when something required everything she knew. She

Killian’s POV“Get out.” I repeated. She didn’t leave immediately. She stood in the doorway with her hand on the frame and her eyes doing that thing where she was reading the room trying to understand what happened, taking stock of everything… my posture, my expression, the distance I’d put between us in the space of two seconds.“Did I do something wrong?” she asked quietly.“I want to be alone,” I said.“Killian…”“Rae.” I kept my voice calm. “Please.”She looked at me for another moment. Something moved across her face… not hurt exactly, more like concern, which was somehow worse.“Who told you about the ceremony?” I asked.“Maya,” she said.I nodded once. “Go and tell her I want to see her… immediately.”She held my gaze for one more second. Then she stepped out and pulled the door behind her.I walked towards the window.I could see the compound’s view from here… the track, the garage entrance, the far treeline where the territory began to thin out. Ordinary things I looked at e

Rae’s POVI dressed quickly and slipped out of the gym before anyone else could appear in that doorway. The corridor back to my room required two detours to avoid the usual spots where Selene and Liah tended to gather in the late morning. I took them without hesitation. Not because I was afraid of either of them… I had already made my position clear on that… but because I had exactly zero energy left for that particular battle today and I preferred to spend what I had on something useful. My room was quiet when I got back to it.I sat on the edge of the bed and let the morning sun settle around me. The gym, the table, Killian’s voice low against my skin, the sounds that had come out of me that I was choosing not to revisit in detail right now. I pressed my fingers to my face and breathed. The knock came before I’d finished.Maya came in with the cup, right on schedule, and I reached for it before she even offered it. She raised an eyebrow.“You’re not fighting me today?” she asked.“I
