INICIAR SESIÓNAva's POV
The pup I had carried through nine months of iron bars and concrete floors, through hunger and pain.
The child I had almost bled out bringing into this world, now stood in front of me calling another woman Mom, defending her, hitting me and spitting words at me like I was nothing.
It felt like my heart was being torn apart, slow and merciless, claws digging in and ripping it piece by piece.
I stared at him. My hand shook as I reached out, desperate to touch his cheek, to remind myself that he was real.
In a flash, he slapped my hand away. “Don’t touch me with your dirty hands!”
The words burned worse than silver.
“Jasper,” I whispered, my voice breaking. “I’m your mom.”
I sank to my knees again, not caring that he’d struck me. Pain meant nothing compared to this. Tears blurred my vision as I looked up at him, my wolf crying softly inside me.
“Jasper, I’m your real mom, I gave birth to you” I said, forcing the truth past the lump in my throat. “You—”
“Get lost!” he shouted. “I don’t have a mom like you!”
He ran back to Laura and clung to her legs, burying his face against her as if she were his safe place. “This is my mom! Stop pretending!”
Something inside me collapsed entirely.
Nora couldn’t hold back anymore. “Jasper!” she snapped, her own wolf bristling. “She’s your dad’s wife, your actual mom! Do you really want to be so ungrateful?”
Jasper hesitated, then turned back to me. His eyes were cold now, unfamiliar, like a stranger’s.
“So you’re the one,” he said. “The murderer. The one who killed someone and went to prison. You need to divorce my dad right now! I don’t want a murderer for a mom!”
Murderer?
The word hit me like a deadly blow.
My chest seized, breath tearing out of me as if invisible claws had wrapped around my heart. Tears spilled freely now, hot and unstoppable. My wolf howled in agony, crushed beneath the weight of that lie.
I hadn’t cried when I learned Victor was with Laura. I hadn’t cried when my son struck me and denied me.
But hearing him call me a murderer, hearing him demand that I leave his family, that was what finally shattered me.
Nora opened her mouth, fury flashing across her face, but I shook my head, stopping her. There was no point. No words could reach him now.
I forced myself to stand, every movement heavy, my gaze refusing to return to Jasper. I turned to Victor instead, my voice hollow.
“Where’s my daughter?” I asked.
From the moment I’d arrived, my senses had been searching for her. I had scanned every corner of the room, every cluster of guests.
But Jasper was the only one here.
Victor met my eyes. His face was blank and cold. Like the bond between us had never existed.
“She died last year,” he said.
The world went silent. What?
My daughter… had died?
The thought cracked through me like thunder, and I felt my legs give way as my wolf screamed, the sound tearing through my soul.
“Ava,” Laura cut in, her voice shaking. “Don’t blame Victor. It was my fault. When June was three, she got a high fever. It wouldn’t break for days… then it turned into pneumonia, and she… she didn’t make it…”
Her words blurred into sobs, each one scraping against my ears like broken glass. “Ava, I’m so sorry, but—”
June was gone.
The name echoed inside me, and my wolf collapsed with a strangled cry. My little girl, my beautiful pup who had never even learned to run beside me under the night sky was gone.
I didn’t want her excuses. I didn’t want her tears. Rage surged up, hot and uncontrollable, and I shoved Laura aside, my hands fisting in Victor’s collar as I dragged him close.
“What did you promise me, Victor?” I snarled, my canines pressing against my lip. “What did you swear to me that day?”
He had sworn to protect our children, to raise them, to keep them safe while I paid for another woman’s sins.
And this was the result.
My son rejected me like I was poison and my daughter had died under his watch.
Was this the price of my five years in prison?
A family torn apart, a mate stolen, one child lost to lies, the other lost forever.
And the real criminal stood right here…alive, untouched, wearing my life like a stolen pelt, throwing a celebration party without a shred of guilt.
“Have you had enough?” Victor shoved me hard, breaking my grip, then helped Laura to her feet. His eyes were cold and empty. “Laura did her best. What more do you want?”
He scanned the room, his voice dropping into that commanding alpha tone I used to trust. “Ava, if you don’t want to make headlines, go home now. This is Laura’s celebration. Stop making a scene and ruining everything. We’ll talk about this later.”
At his signal, security guards moved in, their hands rough as they grabbed my arms and started dragging me toward the exit. Nora rushed forward, shouting, but they seized her too and pushed her back.
“Get your hands off me!”
I twisted violently, my wolf surging forward, strength flooding my limbs. I wrenched myself free, my silver scars burning as I stood my ground. “I may have just gotten out of prison,” I snapped, my voice carrying a dangerous growl, “but I’m still Luna Ava. I said—let go!”
The guards faltered, unease flickering across their faces, and stepped back.
I bit down hard on my lip, tasting blood, my nails biting into my palms to keep myself from shifting right there in front of everyone. I lifted my head and fixed Victor and everyone standing with him with an icy stare.
“You don’t need to throw me out like this,” I said, my voice steady despite the storm tearing through me. “I’ll leave on my own.”
Then I met Victor’s eyes, every word sharp and final.
“I am done with you Victor. I will petition the grand council for a divorce.”
Victor's POVMy wolf paced restlessly beneath my skin as my mind went over the bunch of words Ava rattled off earlier regarding the child she claimed was kidnapped because of her, a child mistaken for June.None of what she said made sense to me, yet something in her voice wouldn't let me dismiss it.The pain, the conviction, and the hatred for me.Moon Goddess, she truly believed every word she was saying. That realization unsettled me more than I wanted to admit. My chest tightened as the words slipped out before I could stop them."Is June really still alive?" I asked quietly.Ava froze. Slowly, she turned toward me, her eyes blazing. "You helped kill her, and now you're asking me?"The accusation hit me like a punch to the ribs.My wolf growled in distress because hearing her say those words with such certainty hurt more than I cared to admit.I reached for her arm instinctively."Ava..." My voice came out rough. "I told you she died in the hospital after an illness. Why do you ke
Ava's POVThe question sounded less accusing and more fearful.“You really need medical attention,” I snapped. “I told you, I was pushed!”His jaw tightened.Just then, my phone rang. I immediately reached for it. Victor grabbed it first.“Give that back!”He glanced at the screen, and his expression changed.“Andy?”Something dark flickered across his face.Raw, ugly jealousy, as though he already knew who Andy was. Before I could stop him, he answered.“Hello?”Anderson's voice came through. The moment Victor recognized it, his entire expression tightened. Without hesitation, he ended the call. The silence afterward felt suffocating.Victor lowered the phone. His eyes found mine.“What are you going to tell me now?”I stared at him. I was exhausted, confused, and frustrated. “I don't owe you an explanation.”My wolf bristled.“We're getting divorced, remember?”His face visibly flinched.“What I won't tolerate,” I continued, “is being treated like the villain when I'm the victim.”I
Ava's POV“I knew you weren’t dead.”Victor's deep voice behind me made my entire body freeze. How did he know it was me? Even with the sunglasses covering half my face, the dark cap shadowing my features, and my wolf scent masked, he had recognized me?I immediately jerked my arm back.“Let go of me,” I said coldly. “I don't know who you are.”I snarled in an attempt to escape him.In one sharp motion, he ripped off my sunglasses and cap.Cold night air brushed against my face.“Don't lie, Ava,” he said, his voice cracking slightly.“I'd recognize you anywhere, even with all your disguises.”I looked up.His gray eyes locked onto mine, but something was wrong. For a second, I almost didn't recognize the look in them. There was no indifference, no cold contempt, no irritation. Instead, there was something far more unsettling.Raw, overwhelming relief.Like a drowning man who had finally reached the surface. My wolf stiffened uneasily.A bitter laugh escaped my throat.“Recognize me?”
Laura's POVI looked away weakly.“Tell me,” Kingsley said firmly. “I’ll go talk to him myself.”“No, don’t…”I quickly grabbed his sleeve, widening my eyes slightly like I was scared he’d overreact.“He didn’t mean it,” I whispered softly. “Ava just died, and he’s emotional.”I forced myself to continue calmly.“And his grandmother...” I sighed softly. “Never mind. It’s nothing, Kingsley.”Then I pulled the blanket slightly over myself and turned away.“It’s late,” I murmured. “You should rest too.”Predictably, Kingsley didn’t let it go.“Get up.” His voice sharpened. “Tell me the truth.”I hid my smile carefully against the blanket.“Did the Smith family do something to you?” he demanded. “Is Victor cutting ties?” Kingsley asked coldly. “Or is his grandmother behind this?”“Let it go...” I made my voice smaller and weaker this time.“If you won’t tell me,” Kingsley snapped, “I’ll go to Victor right now and ask him myself.”Perfect.My wolf smirked. He actually started standing up.
Ava's POVThe moment we reached shore, everything moved quickly.Anderson and Zack left almost immediately to search for Maria while I was escorted to a small cabin hidden along the beach. The cabin smelled faintly of cedarwood, saltwater, and old smoke. Outside, the ocean roared endlessly beneath the dark sky while cold wind rattled the windows. My wolf paced restlessly inside me. Maria was still missing. Every second wasted felt unbearable, but Anderson insisted I stay hidden until he confirmed the area was safe.So I waited, and while I waited...I thought about Laura. The memory of her face on that ship still haunted me.That smile, that calmness, the satisfaction in her eyes as she shoved me into the freezing ocean.Hatred twisted violently inside my chest. My wolf snarled darkly. She thought I was dead.At exactly three in the morning, I picked up the burner phone Zack had left behind for emergencies. Then I dialed Laura’s number. The line rang only once before she answered grog
Victor's POVThe question settled heavily into the silence. I looked away toward the darkness beyond the estate because maybe he was right.Maybe this was guilt. Maybe I needed her to still be alive because the alternative was unbearable. Because if Ava was truly gone, then there would never be another chance. No chance to fix anything, no chance to explain, no chance to become someone she could have looked at without disappointment in her eyes. The thought hollowed out my chest.Reuben leaned back in his chair, studying me with sharp eyes.“From where I’m sitting,” he said coldly, “you’re drowning in guilt.”My jaw tightened.“Guilt for treating her like garbage,” he continued. “Guilt for not searching harder sooner.”Every word landed like claws digging deeper into old wounds. Wounds I had spent years pretending didn't exist.“And now,” Reuben said, “you’re clinging to anything that makes that guilt easier to live with.”My wolf lowered his head within me. I stayed silent because pa
Ava's POVThe slap rang in my ears long after it landed. For a second, I couldn’t even move.My wolf reeled, disoriented, a low, furious growl building somewhere deep in my chest. Pain burned across my cheek, sharp and humiliating, but it was the shock that held me still. When I lifted my head, I s
Ava's POVAnderson didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he reached into his coat and pulled out a photograph. When he held it up, my breath caught. It was a photo of Nora, my best friend. My wolf went rigid.“Nora,” Anderson began, his tone almost casual. Too casual. “Twenty-seven. Pack Advocate at
Ava's POVVictor’s eyes were dark, shadowed from exhaustion, but still sharp.“Laura isn’t awake yet,” he added. “Don’t mess with her.”A short, humorless laugh left me. “What? Are you her guardian too now?” I tilted my head slightly, looking at him like I was trying to figure out when exactly he l
Ava's POVMy heart was racing, but not from fear of the scooter.“No, I…” I pulled away from him, shaking my head, my thoughts a tangled mess. I looked up at him, hope, fear, and desperation crashing into each other so violently I could barely sort through them.“Alpha Anderson…” My voice came out
