Levi

“Are you sure you grabbed an alpha pup?” a female voice questions quietly in front of Phoebe and me, forcing us to come to a stop.

Taking a deep breath, I scent the air and count two humans, a male and a female, both carrying the scent of silver and wolfsbane.

“I am positive. He has the same hair color as the woman who owns the land we found him on. She is the alpha of that new pack we have been keeping an eye on,” someone else says, his gruff voice filled with annoyance.

Phoebe frowns, he

Jax I grunted as I pushed the shovel through the thick snow. It had snowed again last night, and I was determined to clear the path from Selene’s house to the dining hall before she awoke so she wouldn’t have to trudge through the deep snow. I dumped a massive heap of snow onto the pile and wiped my brow. Why anyone would choose to live where it snowed so much was beyond me. Silvermist could have gone south—but hey, it wasn’t my circus. I was winning her over; I could tell. Sometimes, I caught her looking at me with those lust-filled eyes the way she used to. She was angry and standoffish, and I couldn’t blame her, but it was only a matter of time. She and I belonged together, especially now that we had little Hennessy, too. She was acting like my grand gestures and constant attention had no impact on her, but I knew they did. I was wearing her down, day by day and hour by hour. Soon enough, she’d come to her senses and realize we were meant to be together. All I needed was more

Selene Letting Jax stay was the right thing to do. I knew Jack wasn’t overly thrilled with the idea, but I also knew Jax wasn’t a threat to the Silvermist Pack. I didn’t know how I felt about Jax. He’d hurt me so badly, but he was Hennessy’s father. Plus, I’d be Alpha Queen soon, so I figured there was no harm in letting him stay until he healed and having him meet Hennessy. We didn’t know where to put Jax during his stay. Silvermist wasn’t exactly equipped with many guest houses—or any, for that matter—so we decided to put him in the storage house, with a small makeshift bed. He needed to bathe, and I offered my house. I boiled pots of water to give him a hot bath, and he thanked me and went into my bathroom to undress. He left the door open a crack, and I couldn’t help but see the back of his naked body through the crack in the door as he undressed. My breath hitched in my throat at the sight of his muscular back. My mind flashed back to our many nights together in his bed. He

Selene Instantly, Jack shifted, too. Avery and I instinctively stepped backward. They were roughly the same size, both wolves muscular. They snapped their jaws at each other and started to circle one another. Storm let out a menacing roar, but I saw him limping slightly as he circled Jack’s wolf. That was odd—he must be hurt. Storm bared his claws. He pounced on Jack’s wolf and his claw connected with Jack’s shoulder, leaving four deep gashes. They instantly started oozing blood. Jack’s wolf didn’t even hesitate, though. He leaped through the air and sunk his teeth into Storm’s front leg. Storm tossed Jack’s wolf off him, causing Jack’s wolf to hurl through the air and land with a loud thud. Jack’s wolf got up. His gash was bleeding profusely now, as was Jax’s leg. Both wolves snarled, their eyes locked on one another. I stood frozen in place. Their power and alpha energy surged through the air, and the children let out a terrified gasp. Avery darted over and stood in front of th

Selene My heart stopped, and I stared in utter disbelief as I realized that it was, in fact, Jax. But how was that possible? How had he found the Silvermist Pack? No one knew they were still alive. It...it didn’t seem right. It had been almost a year since that painful day when he exiled me. Why was he here? I pulled back from Jack. “What’s wrong?” he asked, sensing my mood had shifted. I shook my head. “It’s Jax,” I said faintly. “What? Where?” he asked, whipping his head around in the direction I was looking. Jack knew all about Jax, as did Avery. I’d told them the whole story, from the Alpha Mate Reveal to the rejection. Jack had been angry when I recounted the public rejection and exile details. He’d said he hated him, full stop. It was different with Avery. I didn’t have my mom here at Silvermist, so she stepped in and took on a motherly role. I’d spent countless nights alone with Avery, crying, trying to work through all the pain that Jax had caused. She’d comforted me,

Jax A mix of emotions flooded through me as I watched Selene on the training ground. It had been a long, grueling hike for me, given my injury from that stupid fucking ritual. My parents tried to mindlink me several times, but I closed it. I didn’t give a flying fuck about anything they had to say at this point. I was pissed at both of them. When we got to the cave, the witch told me to walk through, and I’d find Silvermist on the other side, then left me there. Damn witches. I’d made my way through the cave, and sure enough, there was a pack on the other side. At first, I couldn’t believe it. It was true—the Silvermist Pack was alive and well. I’d followed the trail down into the pack. I’d expected to see a seedy pack with bars and chained-up whores, but it wasn’t anything like that. It was quaint, with cute little houses. I hid behind a tree so no one could see me. I knew nothing about this pack and wanted to keep a low profile until I did. I was an outsider, and who knew wh
