There was a soft knock on the door.

“Come in,” I said in a sing-song voice. It was the maid coming to show me to my room, and I was feeling pretty good about myself.

That lasted all of five seconds.

Three maids burst through the door. They took one look at me in bed with the sheets up to my chin and started giggling. I was suddenly very self-conscious.

“Get out of bed, Selene,” one of them said, shooting me daggers with her eyes.
