Chapter 1

I lay alone in the hospital bed, a ripping pain in my gut.

The doctor’s words echoed in my head: “I’m sorry, we lost the pup. But you're stable now. You’re young, Miss Isadora. You’ll have other chances.”

I had no tears left to cry.

My tiny, two-month-old pup was gone, without me ever getting the chance to meet them.

A nurse asked me, “Should I call any family?”

Family?

Did she mean Bruce? The man who was tangled up with another woman while I was fighting for my life?

Just then, my phone rang. It was the Luna of the Silvermoon Pack—my birth mother.

She was even more thrilled and decisive than I’d expected. “Of course, sweetie. If it wasn't for Seraphina's mother—that venomous Omega who switched her own pup with you at birth—we never would have lost all these years! I’ll make them pay.”

“In one week, I’ll hold a grand ceremony for your return. The entire North American werewolf community will know you are the true Silvermoon heiress.”

“As for the alliance, Julian, the Alpha heir of the Shadow Ridge Pack, is young, capable, and powerful. If you’re willing, I’ll arrange a meeting at once.”

I answered in a low voice, “Okay, Mom. Whatever you say.”

“But about the return ceremony… let’s not tell Seraphina just yet.”

Just then, another message popped up.

It was Seraphina.

I could feel her smug smirk through the screen.

“How does it feel to have your dreams crushed, Isadora? Let me tell you something else. A month ago, while you were sick, he was in my bed. He said you're lifeless in bed, that only I can unleash the animal in him.”

“Oh, and today’s attack was just a warning. If you don’t learn your place and stay away from Bruce, next time it’ll be more than a few scratches.”

My fingertips trembled. A chill that cut to the bone spread through me.

So the rogue attack today wasn’t an accident.

She did this. She killed my child.

I clicked on the image she’d sent. It was a photo of her and Bruce tangled in bedsheets, time-stamped from the night a month ago when I had a raging fever.

I’d been alone in our apartment, so sick I passed out. When I woke up, Bruce told me he’d been handling urgent pack business.

So this was his “urgent business.”

My heart felt like it was bleeding, but my face was a mask of calm. I even had the presence of mind to screenshot the evidence.

I opened Seraphina’s video again.

After she and Bruce shared a deep kiss, his pack members clapped and cheered for their “touching” love story.

“Alpha waited eight years for Miss Seraphina! They’re finally together!”

“An Alpha and a powerful Alpha’s daughter—a perfect match!”

At their words, Seraphina nestled shyly into Bruce’s arms.

Tears fell from my eyes again.

For eight whole years, all his pack members knew about Seraphina, while I, his fated mate, was a ghost.

How could I have been so foolish to think he ever loved me?

My gaze fell back to the glaring tattoo on Bruce’s wrist.

The small, delicate script of “Isadora” was gone, replaced by a bold, fresh “Seraphina.”

I remembered what he’d said eight years ago when he got it. “Isadora, even if I can’t make us public, my body will always remember that you are my fated mate. This mark is the proof.”

“Trust me, the day my pack is strong enough, I will proudly announce you to everyone!”

Fated mate.

What a joke.

Turns out his “permanent mark” could be rewritten at any time, and his “fated mate” could be replaced just as easily.

As I was drowning in my pain, the hospital room door creaked open.

Bruce walked in holding a bouquet of moonflowers and a small cake. He wore the same gentle smile I used to love, acting as if nothing had happened.

“Happy eighth anniversary, Isadora.” He sat by the bed, his voice soft. “I have a surprise for you. Sorry I’m late, I had to deal with some pack business.”

I just stared at him, as if he were a stranger.

He still didn’t know I had just lost our child.

He saw my pale face and his expression filled with concern. “Is it from the accident? Are you still hurting? Tell me.”

I said nothing.

My phone screen was still open to Seraphina’s post.

Bruce glanced down, and his face shifted.

He took the phone from my hand. “Don’t look at that.”

In the courtroom, Lisa confessed everything through a flood of tears."I… I was just jealous of the Luna," Lisa wept, gasping for breath. "She was so noble, so beautiful. Why did she get to have everything, while I had nothing?""And so you switched the two infants?" the judge asked grimly."Yes!" Lisa wailed. "While the Luna was weak from childbirth, I secretly swapped them. I wanted my daughter to live the life of a princess, and I wanted that high-and-mighty woman to know the pain of losing a child!"My mother, sitting beside me, trembled with a rage that had been buried for two decades.Such a petty, baseless jealousy had cost her and her daughter so many years.I gently put my arm around her, swallowing the tears that threatened to fall.No matter what, I had survived those lonely years. The truth, hidden for two decades, was finally out."I've told you everything! Please, let me go see my daughter!" Lisa begged from the floor. "I just want to see her one last time!"The judge gra

The next day, Seraphina—who was supposed to be awaiting her trial before the pack tribunal—disappeared from her confinement.I wasn't particularly worried when the news reached me. Seraphina was no threat to me now.So I was surprised when she called me."Isadora, you want me dead, don't you? Fine!" Seraphina's voice was hoarse and crazed. "But I'm taking someone with me!"I frowned."I'm at the top of Moonlight Cliff," she said, her voice dropping to a sinister whisper. "And I have your precious Bruce right here with me. Get over here right now, or I'll kill him!"I could hear Bruce groan in pain over the phone. He was clearly being restrained.I was silent for a moment, then let out a small laugh. "Seraphina, I think you've made a mistake.""What do you mean?" she asked, a hint of panic in her voice."Why would you think I'd let you threaten me with Bruce?" I asked, my voice as cold as ice. "He means nothing to me."Then I hung up.On the other end of the line, the dial tone echoed i

The taste of power was addicting, but my real revenge was just getting started. As a warm-up, I set my sights on Bruce's pack.My mother had already quietly pulled all of her investments, but that was just the appetizer. The main course was about to be served."Isadora, the social media analytics are in," my personal assistant, Iris, reported excitedly. "Riding the wave of public opinion, your personal accounts have gained fifteen million followers in three days. Your total is now over thirty million!"I nodded, satisfied. This was exactly as I had planned. The power of public opinion was a formidable weapon. While the entire internet was condemning Bruce as a "Scum Alpha," I cultivated the image of an "Independent Female Alpha Heir," earning the support and admiration of millions. As for Bruce's "heartfelt" public apology, I replied with a single, brutal sentence:"I don't know you. Stay away."My cool, clean break only made the werewolf community admire me more.Bruce's move had been

(Isadora's Perspective)At that moment, I was on my first official date with Julian. To my surprise, he hadn't taken me to a bustling city center or a fancy restaurant. Instead, he drove me to a quiet valley on the outskirts of the city."Where are we?" I asked, looking around. The place felt vaguely familiar. The valley was bathed in moonlight, serene and beautiful. A small lake shimmered in the distance, surrounded by ancient, towering trees. The air was filled with the faint, sweet scent of sweet olive, putting my mind at ease."Moonlight Lake," Julian said, his voice gentle in the night air. "This is where I saw you for the first time."I froze. "The first time you saw me?"Julian nodded, a complex emotion flickering in his eyes. "Eight years ago. You were still in university.""You used to come here alone," he continued. "Whenever someone mocked your background or bullied you, you would come to this lake and cry by yourself."The memories rushed back.It was true. As an orphan in

Bruce scrambled to put out one fire after another. His company's stock continued to tank, several key projects were frozen, and even smaller packs began to distance themselves from the Moonspring Pack.In a matter of days, the business empire he had worked so hard to build was on the verge of collapse. In this desperate situation, the only solution he could think of was to beg Isadora for help.If Isadora just says one word in my defense, this whole crisis will disappear, he thought naively. She's the princess of the Silver Moon Pack now. Her words carry weight. He even began planning how he would appear weak and vulnerable in front of her to win her sympathy. But as he scrolled through more online comments, one post gave him pause:"Men are always so naive, thinking a woman will just follow them around forever like a fool."The words stabbed him like a thorn. The image of Julian reappeared in his mind. That perfect Alpha, who had so much that he lacked.Isadora is so powerful now… doe

(Bruce's Perspective)Late that night, after the gala had ended, Bruce returned alone to the luxury apartment he had once shared with Isadora. The place that was once filled with warmth and love now felt cold and desolate. He opened the door to pitch-black silence. When he flipped on the light, he froze. He'd been with Seraphina for the past few days and hadn't realized the apartment had completely changed. The rooms, once filled with traces of Isadora, were now so empty they looked like they had never been lived in.Her books, her photos, the little decorations she’d carefully arranged—all gone.Only his things remained, looking stark and lonely.A tidal wave of belated panic and regret crashed over him.He frantically searched every corner, desperate to find any trace of her, but found nothing.Until, in the back of the deepest drawer of his desk, his fingers brushed against a forgotten photograph. It was an old photo from eight years ago. The paper was slightly yellowed, but the ima
