My shift at the motel started at five in the morning. Dolores paid me a measly amount to completely clean every room in the motel but it was something. More than I took home from the strip club most nights after Evan’s “purchase tax”.
It wasn’t my fault he bought me for a ridiculous price. He got scammed. That’s on him. I felt no need to pay him back for that but Evan did. Sometimes I’d get a couple of twenties from the people passing through but that was few and far between. During the Alpha Conference, traffic was better and Alpha’s enjoyed an Omega-hole, not really giving a preference to the gender of it. It was then that I could make a couple hundred in a night. Everyone who lived in l town though hated male Omegas as a sexual preference. I’d never make any money from them. Only the few passerby’s who chanced coming into Triple. Deciding to shift before I tried to sneak into the building’s communal showers, I hoped I could get some time alone. I didn’t run too far because I didn’t want be too tired for my night shift. Still, it felt good to stretch my paws and run. It wasn’t as cold as running through the snow but it was still cool enough to feel nice. Once I finished my short run, I slipped into the building and checked the showers. It was perfect. No one was around right now. I did a quick wash and rinse, happy to feel clean without getting bothered. Walking over to Triple, I headed in the back and smiled at the girls. A few hugged me and I set down my bag in the corner. I had a locked drawer as my storage where I kept my makeup and a few other things. One thing I couldn’t trust these girls with was my makeup. They were vultures, even if it was old and mostly used. “Riley, I need you to work a double.” Rolling my eyes, I shook my head. “I can’t. I’ve got a shift tomorrow at the motel.” “I’ll talk to Dolores. She’ll let you off. I need you more. You need to handle the bar. There is a meeting in the morning.” He didn’t even wait, slamming the door behind him. Evan was one of the OG townsfolk, his family going back four generations. I’m sure his father, one of the four rancher families in the area, loved that he was managing Triple instead of going into the family business. Being half werewolf, he was strong but didn’t actually have a wolf. He preferred to cater to werewolves even though the town was mostly humans. Which is why he purchased me in the first place. Goddess, I hated the morning meetings. A bunch of shady fucking Alphas showing up in the middle of nowhere talking about offing people. Tomorrow, the Alphas would be driving back to their packs after the conference and it was my time to get some savings built up. “At least you can make some extra money.” Ginny elbowed me and smiled. “Hell, maybe one will take you away from here.” “Yeah, I don’t want any of those fuckers. I’ll take their money but I don’t feel like being a sex slave again. Not anytime soon.” Heather slapped my ass. “Don’t complain. You sexy little Omega. Someone will pick you up.” “Three years, Heather. No one wants some washed up old Omega.” Ginny snorted, swiping her eyeliner on. “Old, he says. As he looks sixteen.” “I’m twenty-five.” “Bullshit.” Heather threw her hair over her shoulder. “I’ll never believe it.” Shrugging, I started to change and moved over to have Ginny lace me into the corset vest I wore. Pulling up my sequined pants, I started to pull up my hair but decided to just do a loose braid over my right shoulder. “God, if I looked half as cute as you…” Heather squished my cheeks together. “Where are you posted tonight?” “I don’t know. Evan didn’t say.” Speak of the devil and he will show back up. “Alright. Heather, on pole. Ginny, Jasmine, Lucy, and Cherry, I want you serving.” “Me?” I crossed my arms over my chest. “Bar and backup to the girls.” Of course. I’d be called when a group didn’t have any interest in the girls or if there was an Alpha in the group. Until then, I was set aside because who likes a male Omega? No one. At least not in this town. I really needed to leave. Go to a bigger city. I’d have better luck there. Make more money. Maybe even find myself an okay Alpha. I didn’t need a good one. I’d settle for one who left me alone until he wanted a hole to fuck. I’d take that over being chained to the bed any day. “Get out there. Relieve the afternoon girls.” We all grumbled our versions of yes and I snuck behind the bar. Farris and Cedric were busy making drinks. I slipped in, starting in on the dishes that were piling up. More and more people were coming in and I helped where I was needed. It was around ten in the evening when a huge group came in. They sat down in Cherry’s section, much to her delight. The moment they stepped in, something felt off. Like my warning bells were going off on these guys but not in a bad way. I was picking up lavender. A strong scent of lavender and I knew none of the girls wore lavender perfume. So either I was having a stroke or one of these guys was the source of the scent. It was hard to not close my eyes and drown in it. Lavender was such a calming scent. Cherry was smiling, turning up the charm before she came over with their drink order. I helped the guys mix the drinks since there were so many of them. Ginny’s table also had ordered another round and Cedric was handling those. “The middle one, the older one, he’s an Alpha. If you want to shoot your shot.” Cherry winked at me as she took two of the drinks. “Do you mind grabbing the rest of the drinks for me, Rye?” I came around the counter and grabbed the extra drinks with her. Helping her deliver them, the scent of lavender was overwhelming the closer I got. Shoving it down, I smirk and tried to slip into my flirty persona. Moving the drinks to the correct people, I nodded to them. “Anything else I can get you boys?” My eyes lifted to the Alpha in the center and his eyes were shinning. My heart picked up. Fuck. He realized it too. I frowned and looked behind me. So far, Evan and Douglas, our bouncer, hadn’t noticed. “Sir…reign your wolf in or you’re going to get kicked out.” He blinked for a moment before I saw his eyes finally turn back to normal. The kids around him seemed surprised at the slip as well. That meant this was exactly what I was afraid of. This wasn’t a new cologne. This was a mate scent. His wolf had recognized me as his mate. Frowning, I stepped back. “I apologize. It won’t happen again.” Goddess, his voice was like velvet. Fuck me. Literally. I wondered if he would be okay with just taking me out back and giving me a good pounding before leaving. Motioning to Xena, she came over and smiled. She’d been late and not placed on the floor yet. However, I knew wolves liked their partners strong and Xena was built for a human. Two of the kids were drooling as she walked over. “I think these boys need some company, Xena. I have a feeling you’re right up their alley.” She kissed my cheek and climbed into the lap of the two on the left. “Thank you, sweets.” The Alpha was eyeing me like I was going to evaporate if he blinked. Honestly, I might. I knew better. He’d promise me the world and then leave in the morning without me. They were all the same. They saw my brand, or realized just how used I was, and they would hightail it out. Leaving me behind with a mess to clean up. I doubted this asshole was any different. “If you need anything else, just ask Cherry or the bar.” Winking at them, I walked back over the bar and slipped between Cedric and Farris. Amidst their drinking making, the two of them were glancing at me. “You okay, Rye?” I nodded, not saying anything. “Bullshit. You’d normally be all over the Alpha over there. Or the guys in the far corner. They’ve been throwing around cash at the girls but they have been eyeing you the whole time.” Cedric leaned in. “Did they say something? Do we need to kick them out?” “No, no.” My lips pursed. “I think I need a smoke.”I leaned back in the lounge chair, trying to take the doctor’s advice to rest. It was going to rain soon. Everyone was outside playing, dressed up for the occasion. Their rain coats and rain hats in different colors made it easy to tell them apart. Nero and Fabian were leading their two other siblings through the grass in search of anything interesting. That included an acorn, a snail, some leftover streamers from the twin’s seventh birthday party yesterday, and a peculiarly colorful rock. Each one of them were set out on the deck stairs, though Mr. Snail was trying to make a very slow escape. I smiled as Lily slipped and as she stood, her face was covered in mud. Nero got down on one knee and wiped off her face with the edge of his shirt. The twins were the perfect mix between Zayle and I. Not quite identical though. Nero was just a little larger than his brother, but to the untrained eye, you might easily mistake them for each other. Lily was Zayle’s clone and our youngest for the
Leaning forward in my chair, I had my head in my hands. I’d never felt so exhausted. Currently, I was only taking a break for moment before I needed to go back and help. Downstairs, Oliver and Kirk were trying to corral everyone into a more organized procession. It wasn’t great, but it was something for now. Cesar was also helping, since he informed the ministers of what had happened. They would take a few days to get here and for the moment, he could also direct the knights to help where they were needed too. We had to deal with the damaged windows too which Vincent had picked up project immediately. We’d put Zayle in my office, since I had a loveseat put in to take naps when I needed it. Oliver basically ordered me to take a break and it wasn’t helping that while Selene, with her last bit of power closed my wounds, they still were fresh and raw. I couldn’t relax but it was nice to have a little peace. There was a knock on my door and Belle opened it up, a mug in her hand. “Luna, I
I couldn’t stop staring at Cesar. He was worried about what just happened but I had no words to describe what I was looking at right now. The fact that I had to then tell Zayle ‘Hey, your dad is like thirty now again because he’s taking over as Alpha King’ had all my words caught in my throat. The only thing that tore my eyes away from him was when Jasper started to whimper. Selene was leaning over him, hands made of ice griping his chin. ‘You have kept your fears hidden for a long time, wolf. You have acted as though all wolves are equal in your eyes. Made them love you with your lies. But I see past that, Nightfang. I see past all of the facades you hold so dear.’ He openly wept as the goddess’ anger crackled and lightening struck the ground. “Will you take his wolf?” I asked, not sure if I could bear another cry like Yara’s. ‘No, my little rain wolf. Despite the poison and ugliness, this one will be useful to you in the future. He has already burned his path and I will ensure w
Part of me wanted Selene to kill him. I wanted to watch the life leave his eyes with a look of utter regret on his face. That was personal though. A hatred that was my own and something I needed to work through on my own as well. Especially after Selene passed her judgement. It was final and I would not dare go against it. Whether or not I felt he was worthy of it. There was a few moments of Selene standing in front of Kane before she moved. His face was still completely blank, in the daze like everyone else. Her hand pressed against his chest and when she pulled away, a white ball of light burned brightly in it. Closing her fingers around the light, it disappeared. She continued through the group, doing it to every single person on their knees. Selene did leave Jasper and Yara in the corner as they watched the display of our goddess’ raw power. Turning her back, she walked back to stand next to me. ‘I am done passing judgement on these ones.’ I nodded and started to order them off
I took a single breath before rain poured from the sky like a bucket had been tipped onto us. Lightening flashed bright and screams from the pack sounded as the thunder tore through the center of town. Glass shattered and I felt my breath get stolen away from me for a moment. Opening my eyes, I wanted to cry out in relief. Selene, silhouetted by the rain, stood between Jasper and I. His sword had turned black and was crumbling at his feet. He was holding his hand which turned a fire red. “Selene…” My voice was hoarse but her name came out more as a prayer than anything. ‘I’m here, my little rain wolf. I’m here.’ My body slumped forward and I let the post hold up my weight. “My pack…” She chortled, the thunder following but were flashes of lightening streaking across the sky. ‘I know, little one. However, I must deal with these strays.’ I smiled and nodded. Jasper stumbled back a couple steps, looking at the figure made of the rain before him. Fear consumed his face and even his k
“Where is the whip? Why aren’t we whipping him? Why aren’t you shutting him up?” Jasper was manic as he ordered his own knights around. I felt bad for them. This must be so jarring for them. No one was comfortable with what was happening right now. Not even the Councilors, their faces marred with conflicting emotions. They weren’t about to stick their neck out against an angry Alpha King though. The only one who looked absolutely pleased was Yara. She had Kian blood running through her so I didn’t doubt how much that poisoned her. “Alpha King…we…we are ready.” Lifting my head off the pole, I braced myself against the wood. It wouldn’t do me any good to jerk and hit my head. I kept my eyes closed, trying to keep my body from tensing up. That also would do more harm than good right now. If I could focus on my back getting hit, it would protect our pups better. ‘Zayle?’ I tentatively reached out to him through the mind link. ‘My love…my love…my sweet mate…stop this. Please stop this.
