Chapter 6: The Pack's Trouble

(Sophia's Point of View)

As the due date drew closer, I noticed that I was experiencing a greater amount of anxiety. Even though I had done everything in my power to ensure that my pregnancy would be healthy, the burden of keeping my secret continued to be a heavy burden on me.

One evening, as I was relaxing in the living room of the Alpha's pack house, I was startled awake by the sound of someone tapping on the door. When I stood up to answer it, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a pack of werewolves standing outside.

My pulse was pounding wildly as I asked, "Is everything okay?"

A werewolf made his way to the front of the pack. He spoke with authority as he explained, "We are here on behalf of Luna Bella." "She would like to speak with you," I was told.

I started to feel a rising feeling of panic in my body. Had she learned about the infant by this point? Was she planning on having it out with me?

After the werewolves led me out into the woodland, I found Luna Bella waiting for me there. Her features were set in a grim expression, and as soon as I got closer, I could feel the anxiety building up in her.

"Sophia," she referred to me in a soft whisper. "There is something very important that I want to discuss with you."

I gave a satisfied assent while a wave of anxiety washed over me.

She spoke to me directly while her eyes were focused on mine and said, "I am aware that you and the Alpha have been spending a lot of time together." "And I am aware that the two of you are involved in something," she continued.

I could feel a lump forming in the back of my esophagus. How exactly did she become aware of it? Had someone informed her?

She continued, her tone becoming more soothing as she said, "But I want you to know that I'm not angry." In point of fact, I am thankful to you.

I stared at her in a bewildered manner. What exactly was she going on about?

She spoke those words with emotions welling up in her eyes as she explained, "When the Alpha and I first got married, we were unable to have children." It was a devastating blow for the both of us, but then we learned about surrogacy, and we immediately began looking for a woman who would be a good match for us.

I was overcome with a feeling of relief at the realization. She was ignorant of the real situation. She was under the impression that I was merely a substitute.

"And then we found you," she said, the anguish in her voice clearly audible. "And then we found you." "In every way, you were perfect, and now, all because of you, we are going to have a child of our very own."

A wave of remorse washed over me at that very moment. How could I have been so inconsiderate to others? Because I had been preoccupied with my own emotions regarding the Alpha, I had completely neglected to think about the anguish and distress that he and his Luna had been forced to endure.

She took my hand and said, "I just wanted to thank you, Sophia," before releasing it. You are not only a genuine companion, but also a boon to our group.

As I listened to her remarks, I couldn't help but feel tears welling up in my eyes. I was aware that I had no choice but to be honest with her and admit the part that I played in the lie. However, I just couldn't force myself to follow through with it. The idea of putting her through such anguish and suffering was more than I could stand to consider.

As I made my way back to the pack house, I couldn't shake the uneasy feeling that had come over me. The burden of keeping my secret grew too heavy for me to handle, and I realized that I had no choice but to come clean about what had been going on, regardless of the repercussions.

I went to check out the Alpha the following day. He was in his office at the time, and a gathering of werewolves had gathered around him.

"Sophia," he uttered in a tone that was solemn. "Why have you decided to come here?"

I took a few slow, deliberate breaths, mentally preparing myself for the task that lay ahead of me.

My voice was shaking as I said, "I need to talk to you about the baby," as I said it. "I'm sorry, but I have to tell you the truth."

The Alpha turned his attention to me, narrowing his eyes. He questioned in an icily toned tone, "What truth?"

As I spoke those words, I could feel tears welling up in my eyes. "The truth about the baby," I continued. "Here's the real deal on me."

I continued to describe everything, but there was a sudden incident happening outside that drew our attention away from what I was saying.

The stillness was abruptly broken by the sound of shattered glass, which was caused by a boulder that had just broken through one of the windows. When the pack members stood up from their seats, the room descended into anarchy because they were prepared to protect themselves.

Zavier raised his voice above the din and yelled, "What the hell was that?"

When I glanced out the shattered window, I saw a group of people coming closer to the house, some of them carrying sticks and others carrying stones.

I screamed out in terror, "They're humans!" as my pulse raced wildly.

The look of worry spread across Zavier's face. "Humans? How on earth did they come across us?"

My voice was quivering as I responded, "I don't know." "However, we have a responsibility to safeguard ourselves."

Zavier gave a gloomy nod while maintaining his countenance. His voice reverberated throughout the space as he issued the instruction, "Everyone, arm yourselves."

The members of the pack immediately gathered their weapons, which included everything from knives to guns, and made preparations to protect themselves against the intruders.

While Zavier was looking around the room, he turned to Sophia and said, "Stay behind me." "We'll pick them off one by one," was the plan.

The members of the group immediately sprang into action as soon as they heard the sound of the humans breaking down the door, and they assaulted the intruders with lethal force. The sound of gunfire and screams filled the room as I watched in terror as the room became filled with sound.

An individual of the human race charged me while brandishing a dagger. I was able to avoid his assault and then kick him in the stomach, which caused him to fall to the ground in a heap.

I yelled at him to "Stay down!" while pointing my pistol at him.

However, he did not stand alone. More people of the human species entered the room, their expressions contorted with anger.

I was startled by a sudden stabbing pain in my side as a boulder slammed into me. I was walking carefully, but I managed to trip and fall, spilling my gun as I did so.

Zavier yelled "Sophia!" as his voice became tense and filled with concern.

When I glanced up, I saw a human approaching me with a hostile expression on his face. His eyes were filled with rage.

He spewed obscenities at the werewolf while raising his firearm. "You filthy werewolf!"

But before he could strike, Zavier tackled him to the ground, wresting the weapon from his hands.

"Stay down," Zavier growled, his eyes blazing with fury.

I watched as Zavier fought off the remaining humans, his strength and speed incredible to behold. He moved with a grace and power that was almost supernatural, taking down his opponents one by one.

Finally, the last of the humans had been defeated, their bodies lying motionless on the ground.

I looked up at Zavier, my heart racing with fear and adrenaline. "What do we do now?" I asked, my voice trembling.

"We need to leave," Zavier said, his expression serious. "They'll be back, and next time, they'll be better prepared."

"But where will we go?" I asked, feeling a sense of desperation.

Zavier looked at me, his eyes softening. "We'll find a safe place," he said, taking my hand. "Together."

As we left the house, I couldn't help feeling a sense of loss and despair. Our home, our sanctuary, had been violated by humans who hated us simply for being werewolves.

But as I looked up at Zavier, I knew that we would survive this. Together, we could face anything that the world threw at us.

As we walked through the forest, the moon casting an eerie light over our path, I knew that our journey was far from over. But for the moment, I was content to be with the Alpha, to feel his strength and love surrounding me.

And as we walked into the darkness, I knew that I was no longer alone. Together, we would face the future, whatever it may hold.

As the Alpha's wolves approached, I could see the determination in their eyes. They knew what was at stake and were prepared to fight to protect their leader and his pack.

"Get behind me," Zavier growled, his eyes never leaving the approaching pack. "I'll handle this."

I hesitated for a moment, torn between my desire to protect Zavier and my own safety. But before I could make a move, the first wolf lunged at us, snarling and baring its teeth.

Zavier was quick, his movements fluid and graceful as he dodged the wolf's attack and landed a powerful blow to its side. The wolf yelped in pain, but it didn't stop coming, its packmates following closely behind.

I watched in awe as Zavier fought with a strength and ferocity that I had never seen before. His movements were precise and deadly, and he dispatched each wolf with ease.

But there were too many of them, and I could see Zavier starting to tire. He was wounded in several places, blood dripping from his wounds.

"Zavier!" I cried out, my heart racing with fear. "We have to get out of here!"

But he didn't hear me, too focused on the fight. I knew I had to do something to help, and I quickly scanned the area for anything I could use as a weapon.

My eyes fell on a fallen tree branch, and I grabbed it, using it to fend off a wolf that was about to attack Zavier from behind. The wolf backed off, snarling and growling, but it gave us a moment to catch our breath.

Zavier looked at me, his eyes blazing with determination. "We have to get out of here," he said, his voice low and urgent. "I'll distract them, and you run to the car. We'll meet up later."

"But I can't leave you here," I protested, tears welling up in my eyes. "I won't leave you."

Zavier's expression softened, and he placed a hand on my cheek, his touch gentle and reassuring. "You have to," he said, his voice firm. "It's the only way. I'll be okay. Just go."

I nodded, tears streaming down my face. "I love you," I whispered, before turning and running towards the car.

As I ran, I could hear the sounds of the fight behind me. I didn't look back, too afraid of what I might see. I just kept running, my heart pounding in my chest.

Finally, I reached the car and fumbled with the keys, my hands shaking with fear. I climbed into the driver's seat and started the engine, tears blurring my vision.

As I drove away, I could see the pack of wolves in my rearview mirror, their eyes glowing in the darkness. But I also saw Zavier, still fighting with everything he had, his body a blur of motion.

I knew then that I had to help him, that I couldn't leave him behind. I turned the car around and drove back towards the fight, my heart in my throat.

When I arrived, Zavier was still fighting, but he was badly wounded. His movements were slow and labored, and I could see the fear in his eyes.

"Zavier!" I cried out, running towards him. "We have to go! Now!"

He looked at me, his eyes filled with a mix of relief and fear. "Sophia," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "Thank you."

I helped him to his feet, supporting him as we stumbled towards the car. We climbed inside, and I hit the gas, driving as fast as I could away from the pack.
