How exactly was it possible to actually have hundreds of wears, but still can’t find something suitable to go to an event?

Just how?

Yvonne had to admit that she was getting very frustrated, more each passing second, she stared at the rows of different colored gowns in her wardrobe.

She had tried on three different dresses.

But one was too short. The other was too long and the other didn’t compliment her bright red hair.

One would think that the dresses weren’t purchased by her in the first place.

She took out a dark blue gown from the wardrobe and stared at it carefully…looking for faults.

She could not go to the pack's annual event not looking her best, especially considering the fact that her parents were among what you could call the higher classes in the pack.

But at this rate, she doubts she could still find something to wear at all.

She threw the blue gown on her bed, and it joined the other piles of rejected dresses.

Oh, it was at moments like this, she wished her little sister was with her.

Becky never had a problem at all selecting outfits, ever since they were kids, that annoying girl had always had a great fashion sense.

Something Yvonne never excelled at.

“Are you going to stand there in your towel staring at your wardrobe for the rest of the night? You are running late B.”

Yvonne turned to see her best friend, Sam leaning against her door frame, already all dressed in a short white gown.

Yvonne groaned in frustration. Did Sam really have to come here looking all perfect to remind her of her current ordeal?

“I can’t find something to wear” She said and Sam raised a brow.

“Really? Are you sure? Because from where I am standing. There are about a hundred different dresses in that enormous wardrobe of yours. I am not counting the mess on the bed of course” She glanced at the bed and chuckled.

Samantha threw her hands up in resignation “I have tried on lots of them. None of them looks right”

“They are your dresses, Yvonne, which means that they are your fits. Stop fussing and put on something. Your mum will chew my ear off If I let you get there late”

Sam walked into the room and picked up the blue dress she had thrown there earlier. She raised it up and inspected it a little, with a little smile, before tossing it at Yvonne.

“Put this on, let's go. Pair it with one of those sexy black heels of yours, and your hair……” She frowned; her eyes glued on Yvonne’s hair. “Please do something with that bush”

With a frown Yvonne combed her fingers through her curly hair, “What’s wrong with my hair?”

Nothing was wrong with her hair. She loved it very much the way it was. Curly, long and messy.

That was obviously the wolf in her loving the hair, because she was a very organized person, with everything except, apparently her hair.

“Whatever. Just get dressed”

As she took the Blue dress, with shiny stones on its neckline, Samantha took out her phone from her purse.

Yvonne quirked a brow when she smiled sheepishly into her phone.

Unable to resist, she cleared her throat and Samantha turned to her with a frown.

“Who is making us all mushy this beautiful evening huh? Joshua?”

“No. This is Greg, he’s my date for tonight.”

Yvonne snapped her mouth shut and focused on putting on her dress.

Greg?

She had met Joshua just last week, and from what Sam said, they had been dating for two months. Did they break up already?

“You know I can hear you throwing questions at me even from your silence” Sam said, eyes on her phone, “Come on, out with it.”

With a smile, Yvonne buttoned up the dress and walked up to Samantha.

“Where are your shoes?” Sam asked.

“You broke up with Joshua? When? What happened?”

“I got bored” Sam responded with a shrug, and Yvonne sighed.

“Sao how long will it be till you break up with poor Greg?”

“I don’t know, time will tell, I guess. Go get your shoes” she instructed but didn’t wait for Yvonne to do that before walking to the shoe rack, and picked a shiny black heel. “Here you go”

“Don’t you think it is time to start taking your love life more seriously?” Yvonne asked, putting on the shoes.

She never understood why Sam would be comfortable jumping from one man to another.

Why date at all if she knew she could not commit?”

“Don’t you think it's time you have a life at all?” Samantha shot back and Yvonne smiled, standing up to look at herself in the mirror.

“I told you Samantha—”

“You are waiting for your destined mate; you want a fated connection. Yeah yeah we know that”

Pleased with her look, and concluding that she looked perfect and ready to go, Yvonne picked up a black purse from her shelf, and gave Sam a smile.

“You don’t have to sound that way. At least I know what I want”

Samantha scoffed, “You are chasing the stars Yvonne. Come on, you are twenty-seven years old, and you have never had a boyfriend before. Don’t you think that’s ridiculous…. because you are looking for a destined mate?”

“We are werewolves Samantha. Werewolves were meant to settle with their destined mates, not with any random person.”

“Well, wake up. This is 2023. Hell, who even cares about mating these days? The werewolf clan isn’t what it used to be. A lot of changes have been made. We have adapted to the true World.

People meet each other, know each other, slowly fall in love and decide whether they want to fall in love or not”

Deciding that she was not going to hear any more of Samantha’s daunting advice, Yvonne waved her hand at her and picked up her cell phone.

“The Limo should be here any second. Let’s go Samantha”

Sam picked up her own purse and left the room. Yvonne stared at her retreating back with a heavy heart.

She wished it could be that easy. But she was too old school.

She still believed in the moon goddess. She wanted to know what it was really like to connect with the soul mate heavens destined for her. She wanted what her parents had.

But Samantha was right. Over the past decade, a lot of changes had occurred in their clan. The werewolf’s clan was not what it used to be.

With a sigh, she left the room too.

The drive to the party venue was a very quiet one, as Samantha was busy with her phone, texting her new boyfriend obviously.

Yvonne just stared out the window, watching the small beautiful houses of Decorah city as they drove past them.

She had always loved the city.

Decorah was a small city but everyone in it lived in a beautiful communion, humans and werewolves alike.

The werewolves, her pack, had migrated to the city centuries ago, and she was glad that she got to grow up in such a beautiful city.

The zincs of the building were illuminated beautifully by the light of the full blue moon.

The full moon….

Yvonne grinned

It was almost full moon.

Her heart jumped in excitement.

She couldn’t wait again to wolf out and run, ruin fast into the mountains.

The Limo halted to a stop in front of the biggest hotel in Decorah city.

Whew.

Its time.

Picking up her purse, she opened the door and got out of the car.

Without waiting for Samantha, she quickly made her way to the front door.

They were a little bit late.

Her mum was not going to be happy at all about this.

She opened the door and took a moment to admire the hall that was luxuriously decorated, in blue and gold.

“I don’t see why all these are necessary.” Samantha grunted coming up behind Yvonne’

For once Yvonne had to agree with her on this one.

It was an annual meeting. When she was young, the event was held in the council’s building, just between a few members of the councils. Until the new Alpha decided to make it a party…a chance for all werewolves, big or small to “connect with each other”.

They took the stairs, and headed to the main hall the party was holding.

There was soft music emitting from the room. Yvonne smiled when she got into the room and saw…. almost everybody, dancing together to the music.

The hall was filled with different faces, familiar and unfamiliar.

And then she saw her mother, rushing towards her, looking oh so elegant and gorgeous in her red gown and straight red hair.

‘hey mum” She greeted when her mum stopped before her with a smile, then leaned forward for a brief hug and a kiss.

When she pulled back, her mum looked her over and frowned.

“You couldn’t find anything to do with your hair Yvonne?” She asked, pointing at her messy hair and Yvonne rolled her eyes.

Her mother knew the answer to that question, but that didn’t stop her from dropping a remark.

“Leave her be Martha” Her dad said behind her.

She hadn’t seen him approaching. And he was with Becky too.

“You know your daughter’s wolf has a thing with her hair mum, and she looks very beautiful” Becky said giving Yvonne a hug.

“I knew you would be late” She whispered before drawing back.

Yvonne looked at her younger sister and somehow envied how she always looked so elegant any single time. Unlike hers, Yvonne’s red hair was styled in a very beautiful do, with a hair accessory that complimented her long black gown.

“So, what did I miss?”  She asked as they made their way into the hall, moving past the dancing bodies until they got a table.

“Nothing much. The party just got started. The Alpha isn’t here yet” Her dad explained and they each took a seat round the table.

“Oh well, that’s a goodie”

“His son is here though” Becky whispered with a grin.

“He has a son?” Well that was news to Yvonne.

“Apparently, yeah. He has been abroad for years though and he just came back few days ago.” Becky glanced at their parents and when she saw that they weren’t paying much attention to them, she leaned closer to Yvonne, her eyes shining

“And he’s ridiculously hot”

Yvonne smiled. “Good for him then”

“So, Yvonne” Her mother called startling her “Any boyfriend yet?”

“Martha….” Their father called with a sigh

“What? The girl is going to be twenty-eight soon and she’s hung up on the idea of finding her mate. Are we going to let her continue like this?”

“I am afraid you don’t have a say in the matter, mum” Yvonne said, wincing when her mother’s eyes widened like saucers, but she continued regardless.

‘It is my life so its my choice. I appreciate your concern trust me; I do. But I know what I want and that’s what I'll get.”

“You don’t have to be so ridiculous about it, Yvonne. You are an adult; you can’t go on like this”

“Why is it so hard for you to understand me? You married your mate, so you should understand what it is I want” She snapped and her mother’s eyes softened

“Oh, my darling girl. Your dad and I met when I was twenty years old.”

“That doesn’t mean anything. I will meet mine someday. So, I’d appreciate it if you respect my choices”

She stood up and grabbed her purse from the table.

“I need to go to the bathroom. Excuse me” She said and rushed off not waiting for a response.

She was so tired of everyone telling her that she was silly just because she was looking for a lifetime commitment with someone who was meant to be hers.

She went down the halls that led to the bathroom muttering to herself.

They were werewolves. Werewolves weren’t meant to just marry anyone. No matter the changes going on, that does not mean that they should forget about their roots. That was just ridiculous.

So, lost in her thought she didn’t pay attention to where she was going and bumped into…. someone, and her purse fell, scattering the contents on the floor.

“Oh my God I’m so sorry ma’am” A deep voice, the man she bumped into said and Yvonne groaned in frustration. Could he not watch where he was going?

Ignoring him, she bent to retrieve the contents of her purse scattered on the floor.

“Here let me help with that” The man said, bending to pick up a pen, just about the same time Yvonne was going to reach for it and their fingers touched.

Yvonne froze, her hand suspended midair. At his touch, a slam of shock, almost like electricity, hit her so hard she trembled at the impact, and her wolf howled loudly in her head in joy.

That electric jolt, that joy….

She couldn’t believe it. After years and years of praying and searching…

Mate……

Her wolf sang out in joy
