RYAN'S POV,

I usually didn't linger around while Elena put Ollie to bed, but for some reason, I decided to stay that day.

Like always, Elena was reading to Ollie before sleep and I could see that she had my daughter wrapped around the story. It was her narration—overly animated voices and loud dialogues that made Ollie giggle from time to time.

Seeing my little girl laugh freely once again gave me a different kind of emotion. I couldn't explain it, but I was happy. She had been really down ever since the incident with her previous nanny. So, the change in her demeanor was more than a wonderful sight for me. Elena helped Ollie feel comfortable, and I didn't know how to thank her.

I was still surprised by how quickly Ollie accepted Elena as a nanny and a friend. Maybe it was because Elena already had a daughter and knew the parenting secrets. Or maybe because Ollie felt safe with Elena after she saved Ollie's life, or maybe it was bits of both of those reasons.

Ollie was never that clos

ELENA'S POV, It had been days since I’d walked into Ryan’s room unannounced, to find him only in his briefs. Days since I caught an unintended glimpse of his bare body—strong back, broad shoulders, muscular arms, and the taut muscle lines across his chest and stomach. Still, the images were yet to leave me. I hated myself for how clearly I could see it in my dreams. How easily it returned to me every time I was around him. At this point, it started to be a problem because every time we passed each other in the hallway, or when he leaned over Ollie’s shoulder to help her with a puzzle, all I could see was his naked body. And for sure he knew it too, because whenever our eyes locked, he would laugh with his head tilted just slightly back. As if he could read my thoughts and was teasing me for imagining things that didn't even happen in reality. I saw him naked for a few seconds, but my brain started creating hour-long stories from those few seconds. I was flustered all the time.

  • The Alpha's Unworthy Luna    CHAPTER 35: MIRROR

ELENA'S POV, The gentle morning light spilling through the balcony welcomed me, as I stepped out of the bathroom, dressed and ready for the day. I was tying the belt of my cotton dress when I noticed a small girl perched on the edge of my bed. She was swinging her legs carelessly while waiting patiently for me to notice her. I sent a smile in her direction which lit up her face, and a similar smile appeared on her lips too. “Good morning, sweetheart,” I said, and I couldn't believe my smile was blooming effortlessly. Her presence was enough to chase away all the dark clouds in my head. She jumped down from the bed instead of saying anything, and I didn't force her to speak. I waited, while her little feet pattered softly on the rug. She wore a pink and lavender frock, with little white daisies stitched along the hem. She had two neat braids that bounced whenever she moved her head. “You look like a princess,” I told her as I knelt in front of her, cupping her face in my hands

  • The Alpha's Unworthy Luna    CHAPTER 34: MOTHER

ELENA'S POV,It was past midnight and the darkness covered everything like a thick blanket. None of the stars were visible, courtesy of the angry clouds spreading out in the sky.I was looking out the window, waiting for lightning to strike despite the heaviness in my eyes. I was trying, but couldn't fall asleep. And it wasn't the bad weather keeping me awake, instead, it was the conversation I had with Ryan just an hour ago in the living room.I was lying in the bed, forgetting about the soft sheet twisted around my legs as my fingers absentmindedly traced the surface of my stomach. The quiet in my room was too loud for me to ignore, because the silence stretched endlessly in the air, pressing against my ears like a tide that wouldn’t recede. It was impossible to stop thinking about what Ryan told me. About his ex-wife, Becca. And about the trauma that little girl had to live through at the hands of her mother. She was supposed to protect Ollie from dangers, yet she was the one who t

  • The Alpha's Unworthy Luna    CHAPTER 33: BECCA

ELENA'S POV,Ryan left the room with his laptop, and it was hard to put Ollie back to sleep after what happened. She was worried about me and kept checking on me whenever I stopped reading. It was a new story, because I continued with the previous one. I kissed her on the forehead and assured her that I was fine. She wasn't convinced, so I put the book on the bedside table and took her in my arms.I thought for a moment before I started telling her a story I remembered from my childhood. I couldn't remember who used to tell me that story, probably my mom. Though I couldn't be very sure because I knew nothing about my past—about my parents, family, or pack.Remembering my childhood was like looking out of a moving car through the glass window, on a rainy day.Ollie liked the story and started to drift off to sleep as I reached the ending. I stayed with her for about half an hour, watching the steady rise and fall of her chest. Her little hands were curled beneath her face, and a faint

  • The Alpha's Unworthy Luna    CHAPTER 31: KISS

ELENA’S POV,A whole week passed since the funeral, yet the ache in my chest pulsed with every breath I took.I thought I would have my closure when I set things right and tell my goodbyes to Molly; however, not for once did I feel that. The grief remained buried somewhere deep inside my heart, instead of disappearing like I hoped it would. It just changed its shape. Before, it was a sharp stab that used to wake me up in the middle of the night or make me cry whenever I saw girls her age playing around. Now, ever since the funeral, the pain started to feel like a dull, dragging weight that I couldn't see, but it was still pressing down on my shoulders.Still, I got up each morning with a smile on my face and prayed for that day to be better than the previous one. Living with Ryan and Ollie was probably for the better, because I know I would have lost my head if I were alone without them to talk to.Even when the ashes didn't talk back, I was satisfied, because it was Molly's remains a
