Chapter 3

“Camron’s numbers are slightly elevated. The suppressant you’ve been taking don’t seem to be doing that well.” The doctor said.

“There’s a new suppressant that just came out not too long ago, I have patients who have reacted well to it,” the doctor said, “but it isn’t covered by insurance, and the cost is…”

“How much is it?” Camron asked.

“It’s…rather expensive,” the doctor said.

Camron thought back to what the doctor said earlier at the appointment and felt a heavy weight on his heart.

It was a pretty day. The bright sun glinted off of all the windows making the city sparkle, and a light breeze stirred the tress just for fun.

Camron enjoyed the way the sunlight broke through the thick canopy of leaves overhead, making little rainbows that danced across his shirt as he cycled. The beautiful day helped in lifting the weight from his heart only for a little bit.

Ever since, the passing of their mother and they escaped from their abusive father, coming to this new city a couple of years ago.

Petal took the role of parents, taking care of him, supporting him and she was also the breadwinner in their household of two. Camron saw how hard she worked, Camron heard the soft sobbing sound coming from his sister’s room when she overwhelmed with stress.

But, the next day, she will always showed him a positive side, flashing the brightest smile.

He wanted to help.

With that decision in mind, the thought of easing Petal’s financial burden became strong. Camron was more than determined to get a part time job.

Even though Petal told him countless time to not worry about money and that she could handle it, he should just focus on his assignments. Camron felt that he could balance both his studies and part time job just fine.

Taking a quick glance at his watch, Camron saw that he might be running late and sped up his cycling.

When he reached the university campus, he was running late and much to his dismay, the professor for that lecture hated students that weren’t on time. Camron enrolled in this university hoping to become a medicinal chemist get a job in the drug development field.

Being an omega that couldn’t cope well with the current medications in the market has made Camron experienced many hardships. Apart from the effectiveness and high cost that made some of the financially challenge household could not afford to get proper medications.

The financial burden being put on to those household including himself, Camron wanted to be able to contribute to the society. He want to help those people out there. One day, he will join a research lab and come out with suppressants that are not only effective, but also inexpensive.

Camron looked to see the time and set off running towards the medical building as fast as he could, as though he had only minutes to live. As he rounded the corner, he shrieked when he saw a figure standing in his path.

“Get out of the way!” Camron called out to get the person’s attention as he tried to avoid a collision, but it was too late, he couldn’t stop his momentum.

Camron’s books and papers were sent flying in the air, crashing into  the person.

The impact did not caused any pain to Camron, the figure became his meat shield. Camron looked up, realized that he was sitting on top of the figure and he definitely recognize who that person was.

It was the infamous Lucas Hudson from the business department.

Even though Camron was said to be a goody-two-shoes that wasn’t interested in anything other than his studies, he definitely heard of Lucas; the elite alpha with dashing good looks and wealth, popular among both males and females.

Without a second thought, Camron scrambled to get on his feet. He don’t want Lucas to think that he was one of his crazy fanboys that did this on purpose to get his attention.

“I’m so-” Camron gasped when the sharp scent of red wine filled his nostrils.

The tight and spicy aroma like clove and cinnamon, but sour and acidic at the same time tempered with a sense of the sharp edge of a blade beneath the sweet red wine.

Camron did not had any alcohol, but he felt like he was drunk just from the scent. When he wobbly stood up, he looked down at his knee and saw that they were trembling, making him wondered if he were standing with a peg leg.

When he looked towards Lucas, Lucas’s eyes were already on him. Lucas stared at Camron with a penetrating gaze, his eyes were icy blue. Camron not sure if he was delusional, but for a moment there, he thought that Lucas’s eyes had became golden.

Under his fiery gaze, Camron felt a jolt of electricity sparked through his veins, starting at his eyes and ended at his groin, he could feel his cheeks burning up and his heart pounded in his chest.

They stared at each other for a long moment until Lucas slowly lifted his hand as if he beckoned Camron forward.

Camron could feel his heart were racing, his body temperature started to rise and his breath turned heavy. He could feel himself being drawn closer towards Lucas by an unseen force.

He knew he needed to resist; he had to fight against the urge to move any closer, but his body wasn’t obeying to his reasoning.

Camron doesn’t know why this is happening to him right now, but he knew the symptoms all too well. Camron struggled to keep his reasoning attached, he could clearly see that Lucas was under the same situation with his face blazed with heat and his chest heaving due to his heavy breathing.

When Camron saw the mocking glint hidden behind Lucas’s frosted blue eyes, he felt that his foggy mind was blown away. With his eyes slightly widen, Camron managed to stop himself when he was only inches apart from Lucas.

Under Lucas’s surprising gaze, Camron stuffed his hand into his large tote bag and pulled out his emergency suppressant syringe. Without thinking twice, Camron stabbed his own arm with his trembly hand.
