"What’s wrong? Tell me," his calm voice pulled me out of my thoughts.

I felt his grip on my wrists loosen, and my heart sank as he let go of my hands, but then he gently held my shoulder. For a brief moment, warmth flickered inside me, but deep down, I knew it wouldn’t last.

Once he finds out that I still haven’t found my wolf, he’ll reject me just like Asher did. I shouldn’t lie to myself. I need to face the truth and get ready for what’s coming.

“So, are you going to do it, or should I?”

I pushed his hand off my shoulder, forcing my voice to stay firm even as my chest tightened.

“What do you mean?” he asked, frowning in confusion, and I gave a small, bitter smile.

“Reject me, obviously. Since I haven’t found my wolf yet.”

It took everything in me to say it calmly, but I chose to be honest instead of holding on to false hope.

"What? Reject you? Why would I ever do that?" he asked.

His confused look made it clear he didn’t understand what I meant, like my words hadn’t fully reached him.

"Are you really that blind, or are you just ignoring it? Don’t you get it? I don’t have a wolf. I can’t even shift," I said, letting the sarcasm in my voice show, hoping he’d finally understand.

But he didn’t react at all.

"How does it matter if you can’t shift? That doesn’t change anything for me. You’re my mate, and I’ll always stand by you," he said.

His words sounded too good to be true. Were they real or just a trick to make me drop my guard? I drew in a sharp breath and straightened my back, forcing myself not to waver. No, I couldn’t let myself believe him. This wouldn’t last. Once he saw what I really was, he’d see me as a burden—just like the others.

"Sir, you should choose your words carefully so you don’t regret them later. Once said, they can’t be taken back," I said, trying to sound polite.

"I, Jacob Wood, never take back my words," he replied.

What? Jacob Wood? The strongest and most feared alpha among all alphas, known for being cold and merciless? My stomach dropped, and I took a small step back before I even realized it. His name alone brought back every story I’d ever heard about him.

Dear Moon Goddess, what have I gotten myself into? I couldn’t help but cry inside and curse my luck. The stronger the alpha, the more he expects from his Luna. I worried about how he and his pack would treat me from now on.

“Now, just try to relax. I won’t hurt you, and I’ll never force you,” Alpha Jacob said softly.

With unexpected care, he lifted me into his arms, and a shiver ran through me. I froze, unsure what to do, my heart pounding as he gently placed me on the bed and tucked me under the comforter.

“Now, may I ask your name?” he asked again.

“Natalie Myers,” I whispered, my voice tight. I kept my eyes down, my body tense, obeying even though part of me wanted to resist.

Despite his cold reputation, he was surprisingly gentle with me now. He had even gone so far as to rescue me from the rogue king.

"Natalie, I know you’re nervous and unsure, but as my mate, you don’t need to be on edge around me. I want to reassure you that as Jacob Wood, alpha of the strongest pack in the states, I don’t need a powerful she-wolf as Luna to protect my pack. I am strong enough to take care of both my pack and you."

"So relax. I’ll always be here to protect you. Now it’s time to rest. Your wounds still need to heal," he said, gently stroking my head.

His gentle words stirred something in my heart, my breath catching for a moment. No one had ever spoken to me like that.

Has my fate truly changed?

I stared at him, unsure if I should trust the quiet kindness in his voice. My hands twisted the edge of the comforter, and a knot of uncertainty tightened in my chest.

When he leaned in to kiss me, I flinched and turned my face away. He didn’t push, just pressed a soft kiss to my forehead, then picked up a pillow and settled on the couch.

I let out a shaky breath, my shoulders loosening slightly. At least I was safe for tonight.

But sleep wouldn’t come. I shifted under the covers, stared at the ceiling, and clenched the blanket as thoughts of what tomorrow might bring raced through my mind.

Hours later, my body finally gave in, and I sank into a heavy, untroubled sleep.

The bright sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling window, waking me.

I blinked a few times and sat up, my eyes moving quickly around the empty room.

He wasn’t there.

My stomach tightened and a small frown appeared on my brow.

I reached for a glass of water on the side table, my lips dry as I drank, my thoughts spinning about where he had gone.

One glass of water wasn’t enough. I hadn’t eaten in the last two days while protesting against Nora and the rogue king. My stomach growled, and irritation bubbled up inside me, making me clench my fists in frustration.

I got out of bed and paced around the room, fidgeting with my fingers, unsure of what to do.

My eyes darting toward the door. After a few restless steps, I made a decision, and walked out of the room to find myself in a corridor on the third floor of a large palace.

Wow it's so beautiful.

Looking around for the kitchen, my eyes scanned every corner of the palace. The neat, organized interior made me pause for a moment, a small smile tugging at my lips.

I headed downstairs, my stomach growling with impatience.

Finally, I found the kitchen. I let out a relieved sigh as I reached the big room, eager to prepare something to eat.

I was busy searching through the drawers for ingredients when a voice behind me made me jump. My heart skipped a beat.

“What are you doing?”

  • The Alpha's Winning Bid   The Bond and the Blessing

Natalie's POVIt's not the first time I've seen Jacob shirtless, but this time I can take a closer look at his muscled chest. He is looking unimaginably handsome under the moonlight.I traced my finger over his chest and felt the dampness below and with it felt the heart beating faster and faster. The heat in his eyes scalding when he pulled into his bare chest. I liked licking his nipples, but I made a mistake when I bit him. It aroused his beast.I flinched when he unhooked my bra and cupped my chest. He was no longer gentle. The way his mouth explores mine and his thumb pinching my hard nipples the pain and the pleasure meshes. I no longer feel strength in my knees.Jacob pulled back, releasing my breast making me feel pathetic in lack of his touch. He made me lay on the grass and himself started undoing his pants and that one minute felt like eternity making me writhing like fish without water. He is back, hovering over me, sinking his face at the crook of my neck."Ah," I gasped

  • The Alpha's Winning Bid   Where Broken Meets Beautiful

Jacob’s POVThe night air was cool, carrying the normal smell of the forest. Natalie sat beside me, her hair moving with the breeze through the open window. She kept letting out small laughs as she looked outside, as if everything she saw surprised her.I checked my watch. “We’ll stop soon,” I told her. “Lunara said you need enough moonlight. Tonight is good for it.”She turned toward me, eyes full of honest curiosity. “We’re still in Crescent Moon territory?”“Yeah,” I said, and I couldn’t help the small smile tugging at my mouth as I watched her stare out the window. “My pack lands go far. Mountains, valleys, waterfalls… a lot of open space.”Her smile faded a little and changed into something softer.“I’ve never seen anything like this,” she said quietly. “Not in my whole life.”That hit me hard. Thinking of her growing up without freedom, without simple beauty, without anything, that angered me more than I could show. My grip tightened on the steering wheel. I wanted to drive back

  • The Alpha's Winning Bid   The Anatomy of Scars

Natalie's POVFor a moment, we both stood still. The waterfall made a light sound in the background.Moonlight showed the scars on my skin clearly. I didn’t turn around. I had to speak before I lost the little courage I had.“This one…” I said quietly, touching the small scar near my neck with a trembling hand. “I was eight. I dropped a plate while setting the table. Linda said I needed to learn to be careful.”I let out a short, dry breath. “She pressed a broken piece of the plate against me herself. She said pain would make me steady.”Jacob didn’t say anything, but I could hear his breathing become uneven behind me.Taking a few deep breaths, I slowly moved my hand to another faint, crooked line above my waist. "This one…"My heart beat faster, but my voice still came out weak. "I got this because I ate before everyone else finished."I felt the silence behind me grow heavier, but I kept going.“I had been scrubbing the floors all morning. I hadn’t eaten in two days. There was a sm

  • The Alpha's Winning Bid   Scars Beneath the Moonlight

Natalie's POVI wasn't supposed to interrupt, but I did mean to listen.I stood near the corner, close enough to hear clearly. Being what I am. Even without my wolf, my hearing is sharper than most.Every word Jacob spoke came through clearly. His voice was low and controlled. Austin’s was softer, cautious. I told myself I’d only listen for a moment but when I heard my name, I couldn’t move. I knew it was wrong, but I stayed still as stone, heart pounding, afraid to miss a word."She's barely standing. I won't corner her into something she's not ready for."Jacob’s voice was sharp, certain, protective. He could have forced me to complete the bond. I’ve seen Alphas do it without hesitation, thinking “mate” means “mine” and nothing else. But he didn’t. Even with his pack depending on him, even knowing his power is fractured…he still chose me. My pace. My comfort. And that… that warmed something in me I didn’t realise was still alive. That wasn’t weakness. That was strength. Something I

  • The Alpha's Winning Bid   Bound by What Burns Within

Jacob’s POVRain tapped against the windows, a steady sound that didn’t feel right in a place meant for rest. I had only been gone for ten minutes. A call to the patrol leader, a check on the perimeter. But when I returned, the air in the room felt heavy.Fear. Sweat. Tension. It came off her in waves, sharp enough that my wolf stirred.“Natalie,” I murmured, moving fast, my hands already on her shoulders before I even thought. Her body jerked, trembling, lost somewhere deep, but when her eyes opened, they found me.She didn’t say anything. She only reached for me, weakly curling her fingers into my shirt. I pulled her close, slow and steady, until her breathing matched mine.I didn’t ask what she had dreamed. I didn’t need to. Blue Moon’s ghosts still reached for her at night. All I could do was hold her until they let go.My heart ached, but I held myself together. When her pulse finally calmed, I stayed there, listening to the rain. I should have burned that place to the ground l

  • The Alpha's Winning Bid   The Weight of Silence

Natalie's POV"Ahh—please! Don't hit me!" I cried, arms covering my face as the blows landed. The duster’s handle hit my shoulder, the sting burning through my thin dress.Madam Black shouted sharply, "How dare you eat before Asher? You brat! You even touched his textbooks! Do you think you deserve to study?"Each word hurt worse than the last."I'm sorry, mom!" I sobbed, stumbling back, hands shaking. "Please, I won’t do it again!""Don't call me 'mom!'" she screamed. "It's Madam Black to you!" She raised the duster again, but Sir Black’s hand grabbed her wrist mid-swing."That's enough, Linda," he said firmly, his voice tired. "She's just seven. You’ll hurt her at this rate."I dropped to my knees, holding his leg like it was my last hope. "Dad, please tell her I’m sorry! I’ll do all the chores! I’ll behave!"My hands trembled, tears rolling down on my cheeks. He looked at Luna Linda for a long moment, silent, something passing between them I couldn’t understand. Madam Black’s lip c
