Lyra’s POV

I crushed the remaining dust between my fingers and let it scatter across the wound, and the faint moonlight still filtering through the settling dust cloud caught the powder and magnified it just enough to steady the trembling silver light around my hands. I pulled again, harder this time, and the spear finally tore free with a sickening, wet sound that made my stomach lurch.

The guardian's entire body convulsed once, twice, and then went suddenly, terrifyingly still.

  • The Alpha’s forgotten daughter    The color of war

Prince Luca’s pov By royal decree, effective immediately: Prince Luca De Lucian is stripped of all succession rights and formal title pending further review, on grounds of repeated defiance against the crown's authority and reckless endangerment of this kingdom's stability. Further, given the Prince's demonstrated instability, the crown hereby authorizes immediate military intervention against the territory known as Villeron, to neutralize the ongoing threat posed by the fugitive creatures known as Tobias Vale's Shadowbound, and to secure any individuals or materials of strategic interest found within the territory's borders. This decree takes effect upon sealing and cannot be contested through standard council procedure. I stared at the words until they blurred together entirely, fury and horror colliding violently in my chest. "Luca." Leo's voice reached me as though from a great distance. "What does it say?" I handed him the letter without speaking, my hands trembling now des

  • The Alpha’s forgotten daughter    The confrontation

Prince Luca's POVMy father found me before Brennar's hour had even fully elapsed, which told me, more clearly than anything else could have, exactly how quickly word traveled through a palace this riddled with his spies."An emergency council vote," he said, appearing in the corridor outside my chambers with an expression carved entirely from fury barely held in check. "To accelerate an investigation I already granted you, generously, against my own better judgment.""Generously," I repeated, unable to keep the bitterness from my voice. "You delayed the investigation's authorization by an entire council session, Father. You staged distractions. You let Villeron burn while I argued legal technicalities in a chamber you deliberately kept me trapped in."Something flickered behind his eyes, there and gone too fast for me to fully read, though I didn't miss the way his jaw tightened at the accusation. "I did no such thing.""Then explain the timing," I said. "Explain how Tobias Vale's cr

  • The Alpha’s forgotten daughter    Prince Luca willingness

Prince Luca's POVI found Leo in the eastern library before the sun had fully risen, surrounded by the ancient texts he'd been poring over since our confrontation in the council chamber, his eyes red-rimmed with exhaustion he clearly hadn't allowed himself to sleep off."You look terrible," he said, glancing up as I entered."I had a vision," I said, dropping into the chair across from him without preamble. "Or a dream. I'm not certain which anymore. We reached Villeron. We found her, in the middle of an attack, and I nearly died getting her free of Tobias Vale."Leo straightened instantly. "That's not possible. We haven't left the palace.""I know." I scrubbed a hand across my face. "But it felt real enough that I woke up with her name in my mouth and bruises I don't have anywhere on my body to explain the pain still throbbing through my throat.""A bond-vision," Leo said slowly, setting down the text he'd been reading. "Like the one you had before the photograph. Luca, if that's tru

  • The Alpha’s forgotten daughter    What rose from the smoke

Prince Luca's POVI came back to awareness slowly, my throat aching, my lungs burning with every breath, and the first thing I registered clearly was Lyra's face hovering above mine, tears cutting fresh tracks through the soot still streaked across her cheeks."Luca." Her voice cracked with relief the moment my eyes focused on her. "Luca, please, say something.""I'm here," I managed, my voice raw and barely audible. "I'm alright."She pressed her forehead briefly against mine, a shuddering breath escaping her, before she pulled back enough to help me sit upright. The battlefield around us had changed dramatically in whatever span of time I'd been unconscious, the Shadowbound creatures scattered or destroyed entirely, Leo's forces having pushed the organized soldiers into a disorganized retreat toward the tree line."What happened," I asked, scanning the wreckage, searching for any sign of Tobias Vale."I don't entirely know," Lyra admitted, her voice still unsteady. "Something came o

  • The Alpha’s forgotten daughter    The ridge above the fire

Prince Luca's POV"Lyra." Her name tore out of me before I'd even consciously decided to speak, and I was already urging my horse down the slope before Leo's hand closed hard around my reins, hauling me back."Wait," he snapped. "Look at the formation down there, Luca. If we charge in blind, we hand them exactly the chaos they want, and we lose whatever advantage surprise might still give us."Every instinct in my body screamed to ignore him, to simply ride straight through whatever stood between me and her, but I forced myself to pause, scanning the battlefield below with the kind of cold, tactical focus Leo had always been better at than me.The Shadowbound creatures had formed a tight ring around Lyra, clearly under orders to contain rather than kill, which meant someone still wanted her alive, still wanted whatever knowledge or power they believed she carried. Beyond that ring, Villeron's defenders fought a separate, desperate battle against the organized soldiers Elara had warned

  • The Alpha’s forgotten daughter    What Elara saw

Prince Luca's POVThe courtyard spun around me for one terrible, disorienting moment, Elara's words landing like a physical blow I hadn't braced for. "Under attack," I repeated, my voice barely steady. "Right now?""I saw the fires from the ridge road," Elara said, her hands shaking as she clutched my arm for support, still catching her breath from the hard ride. "I didn't dare get closer alone, so I turned back for reinforcements, but Luca, it's bad. Worse than the first time."Leo's face had gone bone white beside me. "Tobias Vale's creatures?""And more," Elara said. "I saw banners I didn't recognize. Organized soldiers, not simply the Shadowbound. Someone's committed real resources to this attack, not just a scouting raid."My mind raced through every possibility, every connection, and landed on the single thread that made horrible, undeniable sense. "The council session," I said slowly. "Two hours of formal procedure, my father's deliberate delay in granting the investigation, ev
