Lyra’s pov

King Lucian's soldiers spread into a wide crescent along the ridge, cutting off any retreat toward the northern caves where the pack survivors waited, and the King himself finally stepped into full view at the center of the formation, his crown catching torchlight the same way it had in the courtyard hours earlier, before any of this had spiraled so completely out of anyone's control.

"You destroyed my Cinderwraiths," he called down, his voice carrying easily across the scorched vall

  • The Alpha’s forgotten daughter    The fall

Lyra's POVThe world spun violently as the guardian's wings faltered, and for one terrible, weightless moment, all I could feel was the rushing wind and the certainty that we were about to die exactly the way this endless night had threatened to kill us a dozen times already."Hold on!" Luca shouted, one arm wrapping hard around my waist as the guardian's descent steepened, its wings beating desperately against injuries that clearly refused to cooperate any longer. The ground rushed up faster than I could brace for, and at the last possible second, the creature twisted its massive body, absorbing the worst of the impact along its own uninjured side rather than letting any of us bear the full force of the crash. Even so, the landing threw us all sprawling across broken earth, the air punched entirely from my lungs on impact. For several long seconds, nobody moved. Nobody spoke. Somewhere nearby, I could hear the guardian's ragged, shallow breathing, each inhale sounding weaker than the

  • The Alpha’s forgotten daughter    The king who was never only a king

Lyra’s POVI crushed the remaining dust between my fingers and let it scatter across the wound, and the faint moonlight still filtering through the settling dust cloud caught the powder and magnified it just enough to steady the trembling silver light around my hands. I pulled again, harder this time, and the spear finally tore free with a sickening, wet sound that made my stomach lurch. The guardian's entire body convulsed once, twice, and then went suddenly, terrifyingly still."No," I whispered, both hands pressed flat against the wound as silver light poured out of me in a steady, desperate stream. "Not after everything. Please, not now."For several unbearable seconds, nothing happened at all. Then the creature's chest rose in one long, shuddering breath, silver light spreading slowly beneath its scales from the point where my hands still rested, and its ancient presence pressed weakly but unmistakably against my thoughts once more.“Thank you,” It said. Though I fear you have on

  • The Alpha’s forgotten daughter    The line in the ash

Lyra’s povKing Lucian's soldiers spread into a wide crescent along the ridge, cutting off any retreat toward the northern caves where the pack survivors waited, and the King himself finally stepped into full view at the center of the formation, his crown catching torchlight the same way it had in the courtyard hours earlier, before any of this had spiraled so completely out of anyone's control."You destroyed my Cinderwraiths," he called down, his voice carrying easily across the scorched valley. "Impressive, for a girl I was told carried no wolf at all.""Your Cinderwraiths," I repeated. "So it was you. Not Mrs. Stella."Something flickered across his expression seems he’s surprise, quickly smoothed over. "That woman has her own ambitions. I merely allowed her enough rope to see where they led." He gestured toward the guardian looming protectively beside me. "Though I confess, I hadn't accounted for that particular complication.""Father," Luca said, stepping fully into view despite

  • The Alpha’s forgotten daughter    The thing with wings

Lyra's POVThe wingbeats grew louder with every heartbeat, close enough now that dust rained from the chamber ceiling in rhythm with each downward stroke. I clutched the small golden crown tighter against my chest, its dark stone pulsing warm beneath my palm as though it recognized the danger closing in from above."We need to move," my father said, already climbing back toward the stairs despite his injuries. "Now, before whatever that is finds the opening."We scrambled up through the narrow passage, Elara supporting me on one side, Luca limping hard on the other, and the moment we broke through into open air, the full scale of what waited above stopped every one of us cold.A creature circled low over the ruins of Villeron, wings spanning wider than the pack house had ever been, scales shimmering a deep, storm-cloud grey that caught the moonlight in strange, shifting patterns. Its head was long and serpentine, closer to something out of old legend than any Lycan beast I'd ever hear

  • The Alpha’s forgotten daughter    The price of waking

"She wasn't only my wolf," I said, the memory of that final transformation flooding back in fragmented, painful pieces. "She was something older. Something the old King Jordan feared enough to order killed at birth. Mrs. Stella called it a bloodline they'd spent generations trying to erase, and I don't know what that cane did, but I can't feel her anymore, Luca. I can't feel anything."The forest around us fell impossibly quiet, as though even the wind had gone still to listen.Elara reached into her cloak with trembling hands and withdrew the worn leather journal she'd shown me earlier, flipping through its pages with a desperation that mirrored my own. "There has to be something in here. My mother spent years researching this bloodline there has to be some way to….”"Elara." Luca's voice cut through her frantic search, low and urgent. "Look."I followed his gaze toward the tree line, where a familiar figure staggered into view, leaning heavily on a makeshift crutch fashioned from a

  • The Alpha’s forgotten daughter    What the moon remembered

The first creature reached me before I could turn back fully, and I barely twisted clear of its claws, silver energy exploding from my palm and dissolving it instantly into smoke. Another came from the opposite side, and I ducked beneath its swipe, driving my elbow hard into its ribs.Mrs. Stella watched it all with the same detached, clinical interest she'd once fixed on me in that empty classroom, as though the battle unfolding before her was nothing more than an experiment reaching its final, expected conclusion."You've fought well tonight," she called over the chaos, almost approvingly. "Better than I expected, honestly. But you're already running on fumes, and I have nowhere else to be."She started walking toward me, unhurried, her cane's golden light brightening with every step, and I realized with a sinking dread that she was right. My hands trembled violently now, silver light flickering weaker with each pulse I forced through them, my body demanding a rest I couldn't afford
