Chapter 5
Klaus
"What do you think you're doing here?!" I asked with a voice full of contempt. My voice was lowered to a whisper, so we wouldn't cause a commotion.
"My big brother is getting married today, don't you think I should have been invited?" Icarus returned with a smug smile on his face. He walked past me and casually took a drink off of the table before his eyes finally landed on Lisa who had a confused look on her face.
"Is this your bride? As usual you have exquisite taste in women, Klaus." Icarus commented before leaning in closer to Lisa. He took her hand and planted a kiss on it. "I'm Icarus Farkas, it's nice to meet...."
"Lisa Thornberry.." She replied politely.
I swiftly intervened and immediately pulled Lisa's hands out of Icarus's own. He was going way too far with this act of his, and he was taking advantage of the fact that we were in public. Acting out of line would not only hurt my reputation, but would also throw the entire room into chaos. It was something I couldn't risk happening, and for that sake alone I had to be lenient with him.
"I'm going to give you a chance to leave without causing a scene. If you fail to comply, then I'm going to have the guards send you out forcefully." I cautioned as mildly as I could while maintaining my domineering aura all at the same time. Icarus was strong, he was an Alpha just like myself, and I knew that mild words wouldn't be enough to make him leave.
Icarus chuckled deviously before lowering the drink down to the table. He threw Lisa a seductive glance before finally turning to meet my gaze. "I'll return soon, and when I do, it's to take the throne and your wife—"
A punch sent Icarus spiraling into one of the tables, and finally he found himself in the cold embrace of the tiled floor. The commotion had stirred up a ruckus as people pushed each other to get out of Icarus's way.
"What's happening?"
"Is that the Alpha's twin brother? What's he doing here?"
Those were the most dominant questions asked by the congregation. All eyes had turned towards the fallen man as he slowly rose from the floor. He had blood trickling down from his nostrils, but despite sustaining damage, Icarus still maintained the smug he had on his face.
"Enjoy it while it lasts." He whispered before pushing past me roughly and walking towards the exit. The maids immediately rushed in and began to take care of the mess, and soon everything had returned to normal, everything but my mood.
"Get up, we're leaving." I said to Lisa who had been quiet ever since Icarus's appearance. She couldn't say anything even if she wanted to. She had no idea who Icarus was, so I couldn't blame her for anything that had just opened.
Lisa stood without hesitation and immediately walked over to my side. I could tell that she had been waiting to hear those words since she got here, and now that I had just said it, she wasted no time in obeying me.
"You're leaving already? Won't the elders say something if you leave before the end?" Damon inquired as he walked behind me and Lisa.
"They can say what they want, I don't care. If anyone asks, tell them Lisa had a headache and had to leave. And as her husband, I cannot leave her alone, especially not on our wedding night." I informed Damon before Lisa and I finally exited the room.
She glanced at me from time to time, and each time I caught sight of her peering eyes, she would turn away and act as though she hadn't been looking at me moments ago. Fed up with the games she was playing, I quickly demanded an explanation. She was making me uncomfortable with her constant on and off stares, and I had to find out why she was doing that.
"It's just that...the man from earlier, is he your brother?" She asked with obvious trepidation. This was probably the first question she had ever asked me since I brought her into the castle, and while I was tempted to just ignore her and shun her from ever bringing up Icarus, I knew it was necessary to get her informed on how dangerous Icarus was. She was now my queen, and since we were going to spend a long time together, it was crucial for her to know the basic information about me.
"He's my twin brother, and he's a man who's up to no good. If you ever see him, turn the other way and don't look back." I said to her in a calm yet serious tone. Once again she glared at me with curious eyes before turning away. "What? What is it again?!"
She trembled a little at the rise in my tone, but soon adjusted to the current condition. She swallowed hard to clear the lump in her throat, and only after that was she able to speak without stammering. "H-he said something about coming for the throne, I realized it made you angrier than his previous remarks. Is that the reason you captured me? Did you separate me from Mark just so you could keep your status as Alpha?"
Instinctively, I pinned her against the wall and slammed an arm over her head in a threatening manner. She had gotten a bit brave, and now she was speaking way too much. "You would have left Mark eventually, he was never your mate, I am! And never again mention that name near me ever!"
I left her shivering by the wall and returned to our room. I had a lot of problems to deal with, and Mark was not one of them. Icarus had just threatened to take both my throne and her away, and all she could think of was her boyfriend who lived in the slums of the streets. I understood that she was a Kindhearted individual, but this was no time for kindness. War had just been declared, and the only thing that mattered to me was winning.
Chapter 76Klaus"Were you able to find anything?" I asked the very moment Daemon stepped inside the room. We had both snuck into the human realm together, and upon arrival, our goal had been to find Lisa. And now that we had accomplished that part of the plan, I had tasked Daemon with spying and digging into Hayley's life in the human realm. "Yes," Dameon answered, and my heart skipped a beat at the sound of his words. This was the first time he was giving me a positive response, and I was already dying with curiosity.Daemon took a deep breath before slinking into a seat. "She lives a few blocks from the city park, and it seems she's living with another man. I don't know for sure what their relationship is, but he's definitely an inmate of the residence." I felt my blood curdle after hearing those words. Lisa was living with another man?! Who was he, and why would he be staying with her and my son? Lisa didn't get remarried after reaching the human world, did she? My mind was runn
Chapter 75Klaus My grip tightened even more, and I could tell she was scared about the fury in my eyes. "You don't get to make that decision, Lisa. He's my son too." I reminded her, but Lisa wasn't listening. She shook her head vehemently, a look of defiance and disgust bold on her face. "You've never been a father to him, Klaus. You've only ever thought about yourself. He's better off without you."My eyes darkened further, and this time my grip became tight enough to actually inflict harm on her. Lisa flinched at how tight I was holding her, but that didn't seem to bother me. Looking at her, I could only feel rage. I thought these feelings would change after meeting her in person, but that clearly hadn't been the case. Lisa was a selfish monster, and nothing she said was going to change my mind anytime soon. She had left without even saying a word to me, she took my son away from me without minding the danger that could have come to him. She knew her importance in my life, yet sh
Chapter 74LisaKlaus's presence loomed behind me, the weight of his gaze palpable. I turned slowly, forcing myself to meet his eyes. He looked the same just—handsome, cold, and devoid of any emotions. His piercing blue eyes locked onto mine, and only then did I catch a glimpse of emotion in his eyes. It was rage, and I had an idea about why he was angry."What am I doing here?" he repeated, a dark look suddenly taking over his emotionless face. "You didn't think you'd be able to hide from me forever did you, Lisa? You didn't think you'd get away with this, did you?" Klaus thundered, his rage palpable, but I really couldn't care less. The only thing about him that managed to surprise me was his presence in the human world, but that didn't matter much anymore. He was here, and there was nothing I could do about it. I had hoped that I was imagining things, but this was clearly reality. "You're not going to say anything?" He continued after realizing my silence. "I don't have anything
Chapter 73Lisa My heart skipped a beat, and I froze, the fork suspended halfway to my mouth. I scanned the restaurant, but everything seemed normal—diners chatting, waiters bustling about. Yet, the nagging feeling wouldn't leave me. Klaus was here. I could feel it in every fiber of my being."Lisa? You okay?" Steven's voice pulled me back to the present."Uh, yeah. Just...a little distracted," I replied, forcing a smile. I couldn't let Steven suspect anything. Not now. This was my first attempt at a normal human date, and I couldn't afford to make it weird both for myself and for Steven."Are you sure? You look like you've seen a ghost," he pressed, concern etched on his face."I'm fine, really," I insisted, trying to shake off the unease. "Just a bit tired from work."Steven nodded, accepting my explanation. But my mind was already racing. Why was Klaus here? Had he found me? I tried to convince myself that it was impossible for Klaus to break the rules, but knowing him he probably
Chapter 72LisaTwo years had passed since I escaped from Klaus and entered the human world, and so far everything had been going great. Aiden was the best brother I could ask for, and Damian was growing up just fine. With Aiden's help, I had managed to secure a job for myself, and now I was helping around the house as well. It was difficult making new friends, but I had managed to make a few."Send the files over to Mr Black's desk to sign, then get me a cup of coffee afterwards." Hugo, the assistant manager, instructed me and I immediately got straight to carrying out the duties. I was the work assistant at a relatively big company, but work assistant was just a fancy name for slaves around here, not that I really noticed the excess work. I had more stamina than my coworkers, so I couldn't really relate to their incessant complaints of being overworked. I took the files from Hugo and immediately strutted straight to Steven Black's office. He was the only person in the office that I
Chapter 71LisaAiden stared at me as though I had lost my mind, but I couldn't be more serious at the moment, and he could see that. I thought it might all be a crazy coincidence, but it couldn't be at this moment. I didn't know what it was, but we had a connection. It wasn't a mate bond, and I'd never been able to figure it out until now. "Y..you're joking right..?" Aiden stammered as he stared into my luminous eyes. The happiness in them was palpable, and that was more than enough to suggest that I wasn't just making it up. He had reasons to not trust my words, and it was perfectly understandable. He probably thought that I was a greedy stranger who was trying to run him dry by claiming to be his sister. He probably thought this was a plot in my grand scheme to extend my stay and finally steal his property. It was okay for him to have his doubts, and I wouldn't blame him if he loses his cool and tries to kick me out. However, none of those things happened. Instead, Aiden broke d
