“He’s late,” I paced back and forth, gnawing on my breaking acrylic overlays. “We need to get him ourselves. He’s not coming.”

“We can’t,” Jasper said firmly, his eyes roaming the treeline, searching for any sign of movement. “You heard what he said. If we cross the border, none of us will make it back.”

Mr. Smith did mention something about the border of the pack being protected, or enchanted. Something stupid that I thought irrelevant at the time. I didn’t think there was a possibility of Boyd not coming.

Again, I tried to mind link him, but was met with static. I could faintly feel the bond, but I hadn’t been able to mind link him for a few hours. Not since that happened.
