Pregnant!

"Congratulations, Emma," Nurse Cherry voiced stiffly, his expression conflicted. "You are three months pregnant. And I must point out the fetus appears quite  healthy considering it's only_"

"What!" My eyes grew as big as saucers, half jolting up from the infirmary bed as his statement registered in my head. "What do you mean I am pregnant? That's impossible!"

"Yes, young man," My mother who was in the room was beside me at once, fixing the nurse a fierce look. "I thought Doctor Spencer said you are one of his best nurses and yet you couldn't conduct a simple test? What did you learn in medical school?"

"Luna, here is the result of the test." He handed my mother a white piece of paper which she ogled with squinted eyes hence passing it to me to peruse with a confused expression. One glance and I tossed it back to him.

"There has to be an explanation for this," I shouted, pointing at the result in his possession. "I can't be pregnant! I am a virgin, do you understand that?" I looked at my mother who was harbouring a worried look. I inhaled deeply and shook my head. "I swear mother, that result is wrong."

"Luna_"

"If my daughter says she is a virgin, then I believe her! Go and conduct another test or better still trash the stupid degree you acquired in the university and get another job rather than prancing around here in the name of a nurse making silly mistakes!"

"Luna_"

"Are you dumb or simply stupid?" My mother was furious. I could tell from the red glow of her eyes, suggesting her wolf was at the edge of taking control if time was not taken. Nurse Cherry seeing that, became subdued, and with his head bowed, nodded and left the room.

My mother recovered quickly and sat down beside me, taking my two hands in hers. "Is there something you would like to tell me, Emma? I mean you can't possibly get pregnant without sleeping with a man so how is that possible?"

"I swear in the name of Selene, mother, I have never been with any man. There must have been a mistake somewhere. Let's wait for him to redo the test, please." Even as I spoke I was growing apprehensive. Something gnawed at the pit of my stomach which didn't bore right. Something disastrous.

Not only was it wrong to get pregnant out of wedlock in the werewolf kingdom, but It was also an abomination. An abomination so strong that my stepfather wouldn't hesitate to cast me out of the pack if it turned out to be true. He would be very delighted to finally get rid of me seeing as he had never loved or cared about me from the onset. The only reason he tolerated me was because of my mother whom he married after the death of my Omega father.

"I don't care about her!" He had outrightly told my Mom.  "I am not going to harbour your stupid ex-husband's omega urchin!"

"Then, I'm not going to marry you, Alfred," My mother had cried out. "She is my daughter and if you care about me and this marriage, then it's either you adopt her or there is nothing between us." My heart was touched, not believing Mom would go against the Alpha simply to protect me. The Alpha had no choice but to adopt me, nonetheless, since then, he had come to make my life a living hell in this pack.

The door opened and Nurse Cherry returned, his cheeks stained red as he scrutinized the paper in his hands thoroughly hence he looked up, his green orbs rotating between Mom and me through his spectacles as he tried on a nervous smile. "This is the new test result, Luna. Miss Emma," He handed it to me this time. "Came out the same. You are three months pregnant." I still couldn't believe it.

"No, no, this can't be happening." I raked my eyes through,  my heartbeat escalating.

"I need to see Doctor Spencer, this minute," My mother ordered, pointing at the door. The Nurse opened his mouth and shut it when he saw my mother's lip pull in a straight line.

He moved farther from us before saying. "Doctor Spencer is very busy now_"

"Tell her the Luna needs a moment with her this moment or I swear in  the name of everything holy I am going to wreck hell on this hospital right now if nothing is done to rectify this crisis this minute!"

"Yes, Luna, " He hurried to the door. "I will make sure to bring Doctor Spencer to you in a moment." He shut the door and scurried off.

I stood up from the bed and began pacing, terror taking up space in my chest. I tried to think about everywhere I had gone in the last three months and the things I had done. I was at a friend's party but that was a month ago! He said 3 months. 3 fucken months.

How?!

"Darling, you have to calm down," My mom said from the bed. She seemed too calm than I expected. My mother could be anything but calm. I expected her to shout at me seeking answers I couldn't provide even if I was held at gunpoint.

"I didn't do it, mother." The first batch of tears fell down my cheeks. "Something must be wrong somewhere. How can I even be pregnant when I don't have a boyfriend? I don't have  a mate yet!"

"I believe you, Em." She stood up and came to take my hands and squeeze, her brows furrowed in worry. "There must be something wrong with the test result."

"What if it's true, mother?" I voiced my fear.

Mom took time answering but when she did, it was simple. "Then we must tell the Alpha."

"We can't tell him, Mother," I said sharply, my chest constricting. "He would kill me."

"I have to, Em. He would eventually find out and that will be the worst."

"What is it I am going to find out?" I jolted backwards, same with my Mom, our eyes going wide in shock as we were not expecting the Alpha to come through the door.

His stony eyes skipped impatiently from my Mom to me in question.

"I-I- Alpha_" I stuttered. Cold sweat broke out all over my body.

"Alfred, I was not expecting you. What are you doing here?" Mom's voice quavered, plastering on an anxious smile.

"Don't waste my time, woman," he thundered. "What will be worse when I find out?"

A tense silence stretched in the room, Mom's eyes flickering to me and back to the Alpha hence she said, "Believe me when I say the results are false, Alfred. The Nurse is incompetent. Emma is a good girl and would never_"

"You are not making any sense, Gertrude!"

"I am pregnant!" The words flew out of my mouth. I knew mother would always try to protect me from her monstrous husband and if truth be told, Mom was right, the sooner the Alpha knew, the better for me. Why live in denial?

"The result is not true, Alfred," Mom shot me a glare. "Dr. S_"

The back of his hand connected to my right cheek, sending me flying to the bed.

"Alfred!' Mom shouted, running to cradle my stinging cheek. I bit back tears and shook my head, begging her not to engage in a fight with the Alpha over me.

"I told you she was cursed, but you didn't believe me. I CONSISTENTLY told you she didn't deserve to be here amongst us but you insisted that she must stay. Now, look what she has done. She has finally brought shame to this family. To this pack!" As he said the words, he stepped closer until he was standing a breadth away from Mom who was standing now with her back to me, shielding me from him like she does each time he attacked me, meeting his gaze squarely. "Now, I am going to do the right thing and expel her from this pack. She is not one of us and will never be."

"No, Alfred, I won't let you do that to my daughter."

"I am going to say this one last time, Gertrude and don't make me say it again, MOVE AWAY FROM HER THIS MINUTE!"

"No, Alfred, you will have to go through me." I was trembling behind her, knowing Mom might try, but this was the last of my stay here. This time, I was certain Alpha Alfred would cast me out.

"I am only being civil because you are Devon's Mom, which is the only reason I am not kicking you out with this bitch, but don't you dare try to play smart with me."

"Devon has us," Mom was sobbing by now like me, "But my daughter only has me and I am not going to abandon her no matter what. So, Alfred, do your worst."

"Gertrude_"

"Sorry for my lateness, Luna..." Dr. Spencer barged in through the door with Nurse Cherry after her, pausing as they encountered the scene before them. From the look in Dr. Spencer's eyes, it was obvious she was horrified. "Alpha... You are here."

"You caused this!" My mother screamed. "Your Nurses are incompetent. They couldn't even conduct a simple test."

They came in and shut the door. "I am so sorry about what happened, Alpha, Luna." Dr. Spencer began, dropping the files in her hands on the table but retaining one sheet of paper which she stared at intensely. "You see, three weeks ago when Emma came for her monthly general body test, the Nurse had made a grave mistake." She inhaled loudly, taking her time to sweep her eyes around us, before stopping at me to say, "You had been mistakenly inseminated."
